  • When we consolidate the iron artifacts, only we used VM&P Naphtha as solvent of paraloid NAD10. After consolidating the iron artifacts using paraloid NAD10, artifacts were too glossy to exhibit and see. We choose the solvent YK-VMP as solvent of paraloid NAD10 for complementing this defect and examined characterizations of paraloid NAD10 films in each solvent. As a result of evaluation by several surface analysis such as optical microscope, measuring film thickness, adhesive strength, gloss of surface, contact angle, yellowing test and EIS, it is possible to use YK-VMP instead of VM&P Naphtha as solvent of paraloid NAD10, because YK-VMP lowered surface gloss and did not change the effect of consolidation.

  • Benzoylureas are chemical compounds best known for their use as insecticides. Diflubenzuron is one of the more commonly used benzoylurea pesticides. Others include chlorfluazuron, flufenoxuron, hexaflumuron, and triflumuron. They act as insect growth regulators by inhibiting synthesis of chitin in the body of the insect. They have low toxicity in mammals because mammals have no chitin. Chlorfluazuron insecticides, which are mixed with solvent naphatha, are commonly used. Thus we assume that in the presented case mental change outcome of poisoning was connected with toxic effects of solvent naphtha rather than with chlorfluazuron action. Components of solvent naphtha, particularly trimethylbenzenes, exert strong irritant action on the gastric mucosa and are very well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. We report on a 67-year-old man with stuporous mentality after intentional ingestion of approximately 200 ml of liquid chlorfluazuron in a suicide attempt. He was discharged after conservative treatments including gastric irrigation, charcoal, mechanical ventilation, hydration, and antibiotics for aspiration pneumonia without complications.

  • Separation of naphthalene from pyrolyzed fuel oil, by product of Naphta cracking process (NCC) process, has been accomplished by the solvent extraction, distillation and purification process. The residual pyrolyzed fuel oil (PFO), called precursor of carbon materials, has been calcined at $300{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ in nitrogen gas to raw pitch. After the treatment of PFO by hexane and methanol, either a flake phased carbon at $350^{\circ}C$ or a carbon sphere at above $400^{\circ}C$ forms. As the calcination temperature increases, the shape of raw pitch changes from the flake phase to the sphere one, and the size of them decreases to several ${\mu}m$. Based on the BET and XRD spectrum, the carbon sphere is classified to a mesophase amorphous carbon with a cubic phase.
