The purpose of this study is to offer informations about the current conditions and basic data of stream sediments in Busan city. So we first select 14 urban streams and collect sediment samples. Then, COD, proximate analysis, volatile solid, organic carbon content and elemental analysis were conducted to determine characteristics of the sediments. Results show that COD, volatile solid, Organic carbon content, T-N of sediment are determined in the range of 1.20~75.07 mg/g, 0.19~11.54%, 0.23~34.21% and 0.76~3.46%, respectively. Analysis data of sediments were compared with USEPA sediment quality standards and ontario sediment quality guidelines. As a result, when compared with COD, volatile solid and organic carbon content values, Bosucheon and Gudeokcheon are relatively heavily contaminated than the remainder sampling sites. But when compared with T-N values, all of sites were evaluated as seriously contaminated. Finally, for the determination of the correlations between sediment COD and moisture contents, ash contents, volatile solid, total organic carbon, total nitrogen and total carbon, linear model was fitted to the data using a least-squares algorithm. As a result, Linear model was well fitted to each data with good values of the correlation coefficient (r=0.9664~0.8501).
The main objective of this study was to offer informations about the current conditions of stream sediments and to evaluate biochemical methane potentials of stream sediments from the urban streams in Busan city using conventional BMP tests. First we select total 5 urban streams and collect sediment samples. Then, COD, proximate analysis, volatile solid, organic carbon content and elemental analysis were conducted to determine characteristics of the sediments. Results show that COD, volatile solid and organic carbon content are determined in the range of $15.20{\sim}75.07mg\;g^{-1}$, 2.34~11.54% and 1.28~34.21%, respectively. Also, several biochemical methane potential tests were performed in a laboratory. As a result, pH values of the reactors generally increased and then stabilized at 7.11~7.35. In addition, C/N ratio, ultimate methane and carbon dioxide yield (mL/g VS) and biodegradability (%) were determined to 1.05~10.27, 10.1~179.4, 10.3~34.4 and 4.0~30.1, respectively. For the determination of the correlations between ultimate methane yield and ultimate carbon dioxide yield, C/N ratio, COD, volatile solid and organic carbon content, a linear model was fitted to the data using a least-squares algorithm. As a result, except for COD ($r^2=0.7586$) and volatile solid ($r^2=0.7876$), Linear model was well fitted to each data with good values of the correlation coefficient ($r^2=0.9795{\sim}0.9858$). Finally, we propose empirical equations, which contain C/N ratio or TOC, for the prediction of ultimate methane yield for the urban streams in Busan city.
Waste fuels, which originate from different sources, have unique combustion characteristics. The characteristics should be considered in applying FBC(fluidized bed combustor) technology to those fuels. The effects of fuel properties and operating conditions on FBC reactivity were investigated by means of carbon based parameter called mean carbon conversion time, rate of carbon conversion, fraction of carbon conversion and carbon recovery. And the basic physical and chemical mechanisms taking place in a fluidized bed were summarized. Major parameters in designing and operating FBC were evaluated in terms of the fuel properties and the combustion environment.

Metal ions such as Cu and Cr were extracted from the Cu, Cr and Ag impregnated active carbon by contacting the solid surfaces with supercritical carbon dioxide(Sc-$CO_2$) containing chelating agents. About 10g of the active carbon sample were loaded in a vertical tube extractor contacting with $CO_2$ flowing from the bottom of the tube for 6hrs. The ligands used were acetyl acetone(AA) and Cyanex-302(C-302). Water and methanol were used as entrainers to study the effect of co-solvent to $CO_2$. Experimental results showed that C-302 was more effective than AA in removing Cu with the maximum extraction of 42.0wt%, while 57.6wt% of Cr was extracted with AA from the sample.
A study of the treatment of piggery wastes using a multilayered metal-activated carbon system followed by carbon bed filtration was carried out at bench scale. From the physicochemical properties obtained from samples treated with aqueous solutions containing metallic ions such as Ag$^+$, Cu$^{2+}$, Na$^{-}$, K$^+$ and Mn$^{2+}$, main inspections are subjected to isothem shape, pore distribution with micropore, SEM and EDX. Multilayered metal-activated carbons were contacted to waste water to inwestigate the simultaneous catalytic effect for the COD, BOD, T-N and T-P removal. From these removal performance was achieved. The high efficiency of the multilayered metal-activated carbon bed, satisfactory removal performance was achieved. The high efficiency of the multilayered metal-activated carbon bed was derermined by the properties of this material for trapping, catalytic effect and adsorption of organic solid particles.
Lithium inserted into artificial carbon has been synthesized as a function of the Li concentration. The characteristics of these prepared compounds were determined from the studies using X-ray diffraction(XRD), solid nuclear magnetic resonance (NM R) spectrophotometric and differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) analysis. X-ray diffraction showed that lower stage intercalation compounds were formed with increasing Li concentration. In the case of the AG3, most compounds formed were of the stage 1 structure. Pure stage 1 structural defects of artificial graphite were not observed. 7Li-NMR data showed that bands are shifted toward higher frequencies with increasing lithium concentration; this is because non-occupied electron shells of Li increased in charge carrier density. Line widths of the Li inserted carbon compounds decreased slowly because of nonhomogeneous local magnetic order and the random electron spin direction for located Li between graphene layers. The enthalpy and entropy changes of the compounds can be obtained from the differential scanning calorimetric analysis results. From these results, it was found that exothermic and endothermic reactions of lithium inserted into artificial carbon are related to the thermal stability of lithium between artificial carbon graphene layers.
The factors that influence ablation resistance in fiber composites are properties of the reinforced fiber and matrix, plugging quantity of fiber, geometrical arrangement, crack, pore size, and their distributions. To examine ablation resistance according to distribution of crack and pore size that exist in carbon/carbon composites, this study produced various sizes of unit cells of preforms. They were densified using high pressure impregnation and carbonization process. Reinforced fiber is PAN based carbon fiber and composites were heat-treated up to $2800^{\circ}C$. The finally acquired density of carbon/carbon composites reached more than $1.932\;g/cm^3$. The ablation test was performed by a solid propellant rocket engine. The erosion rate of samples is below 0.0286 mm/s. In conclusion, in terms of ablation properties, the higher degree of graphitization is, the more fibers that are arranged vertically to the direction of combustion flame are, and the less interface between reinforced fiber bundle and matrix is, the better ablation resistance is shown.
In the present work, the buckling analysis of micro sandwich plate with an isotropic/orthotropic cores and piezoelectric/polymeric nanocomposite face sheets is studied. In this research, two cases for core of micro sandwich plate is considered that involve five isotropic Devineycell materials (H30, H45, H60, H100 and H200) and an orthotropic material also two cases for facesheets of micro sandwich plate is illustrated that include piezoelectric layers reinforced by carbon and boron-nitride nanotubes and polymeric matrix reinforced by carbon nanotubes under temperature-dependent and hydro material properties on the elastic foundations. The first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is adopted to model micro sandwich plate and to apply size dependent effects from modified strain gradient theory. The governing equations are derived using the minimum total potential energy principle and then solved by analytical method. Also, the effects of different parameters such as size dependent, side ratio, volume fraction, various material properties for cores and facesheets and temperature and humidity changes on the dimensionless critical buckling load are investigated. It is shown from the results that the dimensionless critical buckling load for boron nitride nanotube is lower than that of for carbon nanotube. It is illustrated that the dimensionless critical buckling load for Devineycell H200 is highest and lowest for H30. Also, the obtained results for micro sandwich plate with piezoelectric facesheets reinforced by carbon nanotubes (case b) is higher than other states (cases a and c).The results of this research can be used in aircraft, automotive, shipbuilding industries and biomedicine.
Wall thinning can be classified into three types: flow-accelerated corrosion, cavitation erosion and solid particle erosion. This article presents a study of solid particle erosion, which frequently causes damages to power plants' pipe system. Unlike previous studies, this study uses a mechanism to make solid particles in a fluid flow collide with pipe materials in underwater condition. Experiment is conducted in three cases of velocity according to solid-water ratio using the three types of the materials of A106B, SS400, and A6061. The experiments were performed for 30 days, and the surface morphology and hardness of the materials were examined for every 7 days. Based on the velocity change of the solid particles in a fluid flow, the surface changes, the change in the amount of erosion, the erosion rate and the variation in the hardness of carbon steel and aluminum family pipe materials can all be determined. In addition, factor-based erosion rates are verified and a wall-thinning relation function is suggested for the pipe materials.
The amount of domestic carbon dioxide emissions is more than 600 million tons/year. The emitted $CO_2$ should be captured and stored, however, suitable storage sites have not been found yet. A lot of researches on the conversion of captured carbon dioxide to useful carbon source have been conducted. The purpose of this study is to convert stable carbon dioxide to useful resources using less energy. For this purpose reducing gas and metallic oxide (activator) are required. Hydrogen was used as reducing gas and cobalt ferrite was used as activator. Considering that activator has different physical properties depending on synthesis methods, activator was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and solid method. Decomposition characteristics of carbon dioxide were investigated using synthesized powders. Temperature programmed reduction/oxidation (TPR/TPO) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) device were used to observe the decomposition characteristics of carbon dioxide. Activator prepared by solid method with 5 and 10 wt% CoO content showed an excellent performance. In TGA experiments with samples prepared by the solid method, reduction by hydrogen was 29.0 wt% and oxidation by $CO_2$ was highest in 27.5 wt%. 95% of adsorbed $CO_2$ was decomposed with excellent oxidation-reduction behaviors.
