  • Numerical simulation is performed for microdroplet deposition on a pre-patterned micro-structure. The level-set method for tracking the liquid-gas interface is extended to treat the immersed (or irregular-shaped) solid surface. The no-slip condition at the fluid-solid interface as well as the matching conditions at the liquid-gas interface is accurately imposed by incorporating the ghost fluid approach based on a sharp-interface representation. The method is further extended to treat the contact angle condition at an immersed solid surface. The present computation of a patterning process using microdroplet ejection demonstrates that the multiphase characteristics between the liquid-gas-solid phases can be used to improve the patterning accuracy.

  • Undesirable interfacial reactions between the cathode and sulfide electrolyte deteriorate the electrochemical performance of all-solid-state cells based on sulfides, presenting a major challenge. Surface modification of cathodes using stable materials has been used as a method for reducing interfacial reactions. In this work, a precursor-based surface modification method using Zr and Mo was applied to a LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 cathode to enhance the interfacial stability between the cathode and sulfide electrolyte. The source ions (Zr and Mo) coated on the precursor-surface diffused into the structure during the heating process, and influenced the structural parameters. This indicated that the coating ions acted as dopants. They also formed a homogenous coating layer, which are expected to be layers of Li-Zr-O or Li-Mo-O, on the surface of the cathode. The composite electrodes containing the surface-modified LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 powders exhibited enhanced electrochemical properties. The impedance value of the cells and the formation of undesirable reaction products on the electrodes were also decreased due to surface modification. These results indicate that the precursor-based surface modification using Zr and Mo is an effective method for suppressing side reactions at the cathode/sulfide electrolyte interface.

  • In this study, surface deformation patterns have been investigated by the rigid-plastic finite element method for friction factor test in solid cylinder compression process. AA1100 and AA6063 aluminum alloys, which show different work hardening characteristics respectively, have been adopted as model materials used for analysis. The main objective of this study is to provide the deformation mechanics in detail in solid cylinder compression process, especially at the die/workpiece interface that is closely related with the frictional conditions. For this reason, solid cylinder compression process has been numerically analyzed. The surface flow patterns at the contact boundary have been analyzed in terms of surface expansion, surface expansion velocity, pressure distributions exerted on the die surface along the die surface. By defining bulge factor, barreling phenomenon also have been examined with calibration curves to verify their effects on the surface flow pattern that is important for evaluating the frictional condition at the interface.

  • For the model tablets using mannitol and Avicel PH 101 as excipients, the patterns of disintegration and dissolution from the differences of physical properties were investigated. It was found that the patterns in the dissolution and binding forces in the interaction of materials by estimates of solid-solid or liquid surface free energy due to cohesive or adhesive properties of materials, and solid surface free energy in binding forces of tablet should be considered as an important factor in dissolution processes.

  • This paper presents a study of the solder bumping process. The theoretical model, based on the variational principle instead of solving the Navier-Stokes equation with moving boundaries, was developed to considered the energy dissipation in semi-solid phase and the approximate solidification time of the molten metal droplet. The simulation results revealed that the developed model could reasonably describe the collision behavior of molten metal with solid surface. Simulations were made with variation of initial droplet temperature, substrate metal and initial substrate temerature.

  • Ignition of a reactive solid in a shape of square corner by a hot surface is studied theoretically. Ignition time and the location of ignition point are determined as a function of dimensionless parameters, with the use of the homogeneous model of ignition. The effect of geometry on the ignition of solid fuel results in the local characteristics: the reaction is initiated in a hot point in depth of the substance. It is shown that ignition time is proportional to the dimensionless initial temperature, whereas for the ignition of the semiinfinite body this dependence was quadratic.

  • I Ion beam technology has recently attracted much interest because it has exciting t technological p아:ential for surface analysis, ion beam mixing, surface cleaning and etching i in thin film growth and semiconductor fabrication processes, etc. Es야~cially, ion beam s sputtering has been widely used for sputter depth profiling with x-photoelectron S spectroscopy (XPS) , Auger electron s$\pi$~troscopy(AES), and secondary-ion mass S야i따oscopy(SIMS). However, The problem of surface compositional ch없1ge due to ion b bombardment remains to be understo여 없ld solved. So far sputtering processes have been s studied by s따face an외ysis tools such as XPS, AES, and SIMS which use the sputtering p process again. It would be improbable to measure the modified surface composition profiles a accurately due to ion beam bombardment with surface analysis techniques based on sputter d depth profiling. However, recently Medium energy ion scattering spectroscopy(MEIS) has b been applied to study the sputtering of solid surface at ion bombardment and has been p proved that it has been extremely valuable in probing the surface composition 뻐d s structure nondestructively and quantita디vely with less than 1.0 nm depth resolution. To u understand the sputtering processes of solid surface at ion bombardment, The Molecular D Dynamics(MD) and Monte Carlo(MC) simulation has been used and give an intimate i insight into the sputtering processes of solid surfaces. In this presentation, the sputtering processes of alloys and compound samples at ion b bombardment will be reviewed and the MEIS results for the Ar+ sputter induced altered l layer of the TazOs thin film 뻐dd없nage profiling of Ar+ ion sputt얹"ed Si(100) surface will b be discussed with the results of MD and MC simulation.tion.

  • Friction and wear properties of MoS$_2$ bonded films were studied using the Falex testing machine, and their properties were evaluated in terms of the life and the load carrying capacity of the films. MoS$_2$ bonded films were formulated from the mixtures of MoS$_2$ solid particles and epoxyphenol resin, and they were applied onto AISI 4130 steel surface by dipping method to form lubricating bonded films. The results of the life and the load carrying capacity of the films showed that films were mainly affected by the surface temperature arisen from the frictional heat at the contact surface. To obtain enhanced tribological properties of the films, various combinations of solid lubricants and additives with a basic polymer resin were attempted and evaluated. The effects of surface pretreatment, such as sand blast or Zn-phosphating, were also investigated.

  • In this study, a computational analysis is conducted to investigate the effects of porous surfaces on the lift and drag forces of the flat plate. With the porous treatment, it is found that the strength of the Karman vortex as well as its influences over the trailing-edge surface are much weakened, resulting in significant reduction of the pressure fluctuations over the flat plate. The drag and lift coefficients are decreased by 85% and 18%, respectively, compared to the solid surface. The computed results also indicate that the size of the porous surface area does not have much influences but the back side of the flat plate has non-negligible effects on the interaction between the wall and the Karman vortex. As a result, the lift coefficient for the solid back side case is decreased only by 50.5% compared to the solid case and the drag coefficient is even increased by 65%.

  • Water covers 70% of the earth's surface and the human body consist of 75% of it. It is clear that water is one of the prime elements responsible for life on earth. Over the last 30 years or so, numerous studies have attempted to find out more about the water microscopically. In this paper, we investigated how the receding and advancing contact angle of the moving water droplet changes on a solid surface having various LJ epsilon parameters. To observe the dynamic contact angle history, a body force applied to all water molecules after obtained the water droplet in equilibrium with the solid surface. We obtained the density profile and receding and advancing contact angle of the moving water droplet
