The fixed solid catalysts such as glass bead, steel mesh, and $TiO_2$ coated ceramic bead were used to investigate effect of radical production at different frequencies. The radical production rate at 300 kHz was faster than that at 35 kHz without solid, but the tendency was changed with the presence of glass bead. The presence of glass beads create non-continuous points between the solid and liquid phases leading to increased formation of cavitation bubbles. However, the radical production decreased when steel mesh was used at 35 kHz although the surface area of contact with liquid was same when glass bead was used. Hence the solid catalyst did not always enhance the radical production. The radical production using $TiO_2$ coated ceramic bead was dramatically increased at 35 kHz due to the breakage of $TiO_2$ coated ceramic bead. Therefore the radical productions at 300 kHz using fixed solid catalysts generally increased while at 35 kHz the results fluctuated according to the experimental conditions.

A mathematical model has been developed for predicting kinematic, thermal, and solidification histories of atomized droplets during flight. Liquid droplet convective cooling, recalescence, equilibrium-state solidification, and solid-phase cooling were taken into account in the analysis of the solidification process. The spherical shell model was adopted where the heterogeneous nucleation is initiated from the whole surface of a droplet. The growth rate of the solid-liquid interface was determined from the theory of crystal growth kinetics with undercooling caused by the rapid solidification. The solid fraction after recalescence was obtained by using the integral method. The thermal responses of atomized droplets to gas velocity, particle size variation, and degree of undercooling were investigated through the parametric studies. It is possible to evaluate the solid fraction of the droplet according to flight distance and time in terms of a dimensionless parameter derived from the overall energy balance of the system. It is also found that the solid fraction at the end of recalescence is not dependent on the droplet size and nozzle exit velocity but on the degree of subcooling.
Nanopore DNA sequencing is an emerging and promising technique that can potentially realize the goal of a low-cost and high-throughput method for analyzing human genome. Especially, solid-state nanopores have relatively high mechanical stability, simple surface modification, and facile fabrication process without the need for labeling or amplification of PCR (polymerized chain reaction) in DNA sequencing. For these advantages of solid-sate nanopores, the use of solid-state nanopores has been extensively considered for developing a next generation DNA sequencing technology. Solid-state nanopore sequencing technique can determine and count charged molecules such as single-stranded DNA, double-stranded DNA, or RNA when they are driven to pass through a membrane nanopore between two electrolytes of cis-trans chambers with applied bias voltage by measuring the ionic current which varies due to the existence of the charged particles in the nanopore. Recently, many researchers have suggested that nanopore-based sensors can be competitive with other third-generation DNA sequencing technologies, and may be able to rapidly and reliably sequence the human genome for under $1,000.
The thickness ranges and conditions to form the supersaturated solid solution in Al-Cr alloys were investigated with various rapid solidification conditions. Al-Cr alloys, rapidly solidified by using the small droplet chill quenching method, were examined by means of micro-vickers hardness, lattice parameter, thermal analysis and microscopic observation. The results obtained were as follows; 1. With the increase of solidification rate, the solidified structures were changed to intermetallic compound + solid solution, incompletely supersaturated solid solution, completely supersaturated solid solution, in turn. 2. The minimum solidification rate required to form completely supersaturated solid solution was $2.5{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$, $3.6{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$ and $6.0{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$ for Al-1.0wt%Cr, Al-1,2wt%Cr and Al-1.5wt%Cr, respectively. 3. The maximum distance from the chill surface required to form completely supersaturated solid solution was 5mm, 1.3mm and 0.3mm for Al-1.0wt%Cr, Al-1.2wt%Cr and Al-1.5wt% Cr, respectively.

This research investigated the effect of individual yarn colors on the perception of overall colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics. The way the colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics are perceived is known as visual color mixing: when the different colored yarns juxtaposed on the fabric surface are observed from some distance away, they are visually mixed in our eyes and perceived as a solid color. However, we can still see individual yarn colors that make the fabrics look obviously different from actual solid colors. To quantify this visual color mixing effect, twenty-one sateen fabrics were produced in a wide range of colors using cyan, magenta, and yellow yarns, and the colors were measured instrumentally. The obtained colorimetric values were converted into solid color images on a CRT monitor. Then, the physical fabrics were scanned, and the scanned images were displayed on the monitor with solid color images in pairs for visual color difference evaluation. The woven and solid colors in each pair were of physically identical color; however, the visual color difference was as large as $4.81{\Delta}{E^*}_{ab}$ on average. A visual color difference model was proposed by considering this parametric effect of individual yarn colors.
The objective of this study was carried out to determine which method is effective for improving seed germination in carrot and onion among osmotic or solid matrix priming. Seeds were osmotic primed with -0.5 MPa polyethylene glycol 8000 (PEG) solution and solid matrix primed with Micro Cel E (seed, Micro Cel E, and water mixed with the ratio of 4.0:2.0:8.0 by weight for carrot, and the ratio of 4.0:1.2:5.0 for onion at $20^{\circ}C$ for 4 days). Seeds were rapidly absorbed water after osmotic priming and solid matrix priming treatment. The moisture content of solid matrix primed seeds was lower than that of osmotic primed seeds in carrot and onion. Osmotic priming and solid matrix priming did not influenced on increasing of percent germination, but $T_{50}$ of treated seeds was shorter than those of untreated seeds at four temperature regimes. The effects of osmotic or solid matrix priming in reducing the $T_{50}$ was greater when the seeds were germinated at $15^{\circ}C$ than at $25^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$ temperature. Solid matrix primed seeds germinated faster than osmotic primed seeds at all temperature in both carrot and onion. After priming, surface-dried seeds germinated faster than dried-back seeds in carrot and onion. Emergence speed of carrot and onion seeds was faster than untreated seeds by osmotic priming or SMP treatment although the final emergence percentage was not significantly influenced. On the other hand, early growth was not significantly influenced by osmotic priming or SMP treatment of carrot and onion seeds.

As the 4th industrial revolution is in full swing and next-generation ICT(Information & Communications Technology) convergence technology is being developed, various smart construction technologies are being rapidly introduced in the construction field to respond to technological changes. In particular, since the earth-volume calculation process for site design accounts for a large part of the design cost at the construction site, related researches are being actively conducted to improve the efficiency of the process and accurately calculate the earth-volume. The purpose of this study is to present a method for quickly constructing the topography of a construction site in 3D and efficiently calculating earth-volume using the results. For this purpose, the construction site was constructed as a 3D realistic model using large-scale aerial photos obtained from UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). At this time, since the constructed 3D realistic model has a surface model structure in which volume calculation is impossible, the structure was converted into a 3D solid model to enable volume calculation. And we devised a methodology to calculate earth-volume based on CAD(Computer-Aided Design and Drafting) using the converted solid model. Automatically calculating earth-volume from the solid model by applying the method. As a result, It was possible to confirm a relative deviation of 1.52% from the calculated earth-volume from the existing survey results. In addition, as a result of comparative analysis of the process time required for each method, it was confirmed that the time required is reduced of 60%. The technique presented in this study is expected to be utilized as a technology for smart construction management, such as periodic site monitoring throughout the entire construction process, as well as cost reduction for earth-volume calculation.
Small sized manganese dioxide particles are immobilized onto the surface of sand by the wet impregnation process. The surface morphology of the solid, i.e., immobilized manganese dioxide natural sand (IMNS) is performed by taking scanning electron microscope images and characterized by the X-ray diffraction data. The specific surface area of the solid is obtained, which shows a significant increase in the specific surface area obtained by the immobilization of manganese dioxide. The $pH_{PZC}$ (point of zero charge) is found to be 6.28. Further, the IMNS is assessed in the removal of As(III) and As(V) pollutants from aqueous solutions under the batch and column operations. Batch reactor experiments are conducted for various physicochemical parametric studies, viz. the effect of sorptive pH (pH 2.0-10.0), concentration (1.0-25.0 mg/L), and background electrolyte concentrations (0.0001-0.1 mol/L $NaNO_3$). Further, column experiments are conducted to obtain the efficiency of IMNS under dynamic conditions. The breakthrough data obtained by the column experiments are employed in non-linear fitting to the Thomas equation, so as to estimate the loading capacity of the column for As(III) and As(V).

A numerical analysis has been conducted to investigate a modified floating-zone crystal growth process in which most of the melt surface is covered with a heated ring. The crystal rod is not only pulled downward but rotated around its axisymmetric line during crystal growth process in order to produce the flat interface of crystal growth and the single crystal growth of NaNO3 is considered in 6mm diameter. The present study is made from a full-equation-based analysis considering a pulling velocity in all of solid and liquid domains and both of solid-liquid interfaces are tracked simultaneously with a governing equation in each domain. Numerical results are mainly presented for the comparison of the surface shape of rotational crystal rod with that of no-rotational crystal rod and the effects of revolution speeds of the crystal rod. Results show that the rotation of crystal rod produces more its flat surface. In addition, the shape of crystal growth near the centerline is more concaved with the increase in the revolution speed of crystal rod. The flow pattern and temperature distribution is analyzed and presented in each case. As the pulling velocity of crystal rod is increasing, the free surface of the melt below the heated ring is enlarged due to the crystal interface migrating downward.
