GaN has shown good potential owing to its better chemical stability than other materials and tunable bandgap with materials such as InN and AlN. Tunable bandgap allows GaN to make the maximum utilization of the solar spectrum, thus improves the solar-to-hydrogen (STH) efficiency. In addition, GaN band gap contains the oxidation and reduction level of water, so it can split water without external voltage. However, STH efficiency using GaN itself is low and has been actively studied recently to improve it. In this thesis, we have summarized the studies related to the use of GaN as a photoelectrode for photoelectrochemical water splitting.
Crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells have advantages of zero pollution, large scale and high reliability. A major challenge is that sunlight wavelength with photon energy lower than semiconductor band gap is converted into heat and increase its temperature and reduce its conversion efficiency. Traditional cooling PV method is using water flowing below the modules to cool down PV temperature. In this paper, the idea is proposed to reduce the temperature of the module and improve the energy conversion efficiency of the module through the modulation of the solar spectrum. A spectrally selective nanofilm reflector located directly on the surface of PV is designed, which can reflect sunlight wavelength with low photon energy, and even enhance absorption of sunlight wavelength with high photon energy. The results indicate that nanofilm reflector can reduce spectral reflectivity integral from 9.0% to 6.93% in 400~1100 nm wavelength range, and improve spectral reflectivity integral from 23.1% to 78.34% in long wavelength range. The nanofilm reflector can reduce temperature of PV by 4.51℃ and relatively improved energy conversion efficiency of PV by 1.25% when solar irradiance is 1000 W/m2. Furthermore, the nanofilm reflector is insensitive in sunlight's angle and polarization state, and be suitable for high irradiance environment.
It is a wide range of types of building materials. Depending on the flow of time for the increased interest in building appearance of quality new and different materials are being developed. In particular, the case of granite widely used as cladding, recently, China's low-cost stone disguised as a large number of local granite stone as the domestic industry has been a big hit. Therefore, the purpose of study is establishment of the database for granite building exterior materials. For that, the domestic granite and chinese granite are selected. The spectrums of these material are investigated and analyzed.

Six metal-free organic dyes having thiophene (1), benzene-thiophene (2), thiophene-benzene (3), thiophene-pyridine(4), thiophene-thiophene (5), and pyridine (6) linkers between 9,9-dimethylfluorenyl terminal group and $\alpha$-cyanoacrylic acid anchor were synthesized. Among them, organic dye 5 showed the longest ${\lambda}}max$ value (424 nm) in UV-Vis absorption spectrum, better incident monochromatic photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE), highest short circuit photocurrent density (JSC, 9.33 mA2/cm2), and highest overall conversion efficiency ($\eta$, 3.91%).
The ionosphere, the atmosphere of the earth ionized by solar radiations, has been strongly varied with solar activity. The ionosphere varies with the solar cycle, the seasons, the latitudes and during any given day. Radio wave propagation through or in the ionosphere is affected by ionospheric condition so that one needs to consider its effects on operating communication systems normally. For examples, sporadic E may form at any time. It occurs at altitudes between 90 to 140 km (in the E region), and may be spread over a large area or be confined to a small region. Sometimes the sporadic E layer works as a mirror so that the communication signal does not reach the receiver. And radiation from the Sun during large solar flares causes increased ionization in the D region which results in greater absorption of HF radio waves. This phenomenon is called short wave fade-outs. If the flare is large enough, the whole of the HF spectrum can be rendered unusable for a period of time. Due to events on the Sun, sometimes the Earth's magnetic field becomes disturbed. The geomagnetic field and the ionosphere are linked in complex ways and a disturbance in the geomagnetic field can often cause a disturbance in the F region of the ionosphere. An enhancement will not usually concern the HF communicator, but the depression may cause frequencies normally used for communication to be too high with the result that the wave penetrates the ionosphere. Ionospheric storms can occur throughout the solar cycle and are related to coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and coronal holes on the Sun. Except the above mentioned phenomena, there are a lot of things to affect the radio communication. Nowadays, radio technique for probing the terrestrial ionosphere has a tendency to use satellite system such as GPS. To get more accurate information about the variation of the ionospheric electron density, a TEC measurement system is necessary so RRL will operate the system in the near future.

For improving solar efficiencies, down conversion of high-energy photons to visible lights is discussed. The losses due to thermalization of charge carriers generated by the absorption of high-energy photons, can largely be reduced in a solar cell if more than one electron-hole pair can be generated per incident photon. The solar cell was constructed of dye-sensitized anatase-based TiO$_2$, approximately 30nm particle size, 6$\mu\textrm{m}$thickness, and 6${\times}$6$\textrm{mm}^2$ active area, Pt counter electrode and I$_3$$\^$-/I$_2$$\^$-/ electrolyte. After correction for losses due to light reflection and absorption by the conducting glass, the conversion of photons to electric current is practically quantitative in the plateau region of the curves. The incident photon to current conversion efficiency(IPCE) of N3 used as a dye in this work is about 80% at around 590nm and 610nm which is the emission spectrum of Eu doped LGF. The Eu doped LGF powder was prepared by conventional ceramic process, and used as a down converter for DSC after spin coated on the slide glass and fired.

Semiconductor nanocrystal quantum dots (NQDs) have recently attracted considerable interest for use in photovoltaics. Band gaps of NQDs can be tuned over a considerable range by varying the particle size thereby allowing enhance absorption of solar spectrum. NQDs, synthesized using colloidal routes, are solution processable and promise for a large-area fabrication. Recent advancements in multiple-exciton generation in NQD solutions have afforded possible efficiency improvements. Various architectures have attempted to utilize the NQDs in photovoltaics, such as NQD-sensitized solar cell, NQD-bulk-heterojuction solar cell and etc. Here we have fabricated CdSe NQDs with the band gap of 1.8 eV to 2.1 eV on thin-layers of p-type organic crystallites (1.61 eV) to realize a donor-acceptor type heterojuction solar cell. Simple structure as it was, we could control the interface of electrode-p-layer, and n-p-layer and monitor the following efficiency changes. Specifically, surface molecules adsorbed on the NQDs were critical to enhance the carrier transfer among the n-layer where we could verify by measuring the photo-response from the NQD layers only. Further modifying the annealing temperature after the deposition of NQDs on p-layers allowed higher conversion efficiencies in the device.

Lead sulfide (PbS) nanocrystal quantum dots (NQDs) are promising materials for various optoelectronic devices, especially solar cells, because of their tunability of the optical band-gap controlled by adjusting the diameter of NQDs. PbS is a IV-VI semiconductor enabling infrared-absorption and it can be synthesized using solution process methods. A wide choice of the diameter of PbS NQDs is also a benefit to achieve the quantum confinement regime due to its large Bohr exciton radius (20 nm). To exploit these desirable properties, many research groups have intensively studied to apply for the photovoltaic devices. There are several essential requirements to fabricate the efficient NQDs-based solar cell. First of all, highly confined PbS QDs should be synthesized resulting in a narrow peak with a small full width-half maximum value at the first exciton transition observed in UV-Vis absorbance and photoluminescence spectra. In other words, the size-uniformity of NQDs ought to secure under 5%. Second, PbS NQDs should be assembled carefully in order to enhance the electronic coupling between adjacent NQDs by controlling the inter-QDs distance. Finally, appropriate structure for the photovoltaic device is the key issue to extract the photo-generated carriers from light-absorbing layer in solar cell. In this step, workfunction and Fermi energy difference could be precisely considered for Schottky and hetero junction device, respectively. In this presentation, we introduce the strategy to obtain high performance solar cell fabricated using PbS NQDs below the size of the Bohr radius. The PbS NQDs with various diameters were synthesized using methods established by Hines with a few modifications. PbS NQDs solids were assembled using layer-by-layer spin-coating method. Subsequent ligand-exchange was carried out using 1,2-ethanedithiol (EDT) to reduce inter-NQDs distance. Finally, Schottky junction solar cells were fabricated on ITO-coated glass and 150 nm-thick Al was deposited on the top of PbS NQDs solids as a top electrode using thermal evaporation technique. To evaluate the solar cell performance, current-voltage (I-V) measurement were performed under AM 1.5G solar spectrum at 1 sun intensity. As a result, we could achieve the power conversion efficiency of 3.33% at Schottky junction solar cell. This result indicates that high performance solar cell is successfully fabricated by optimizing the all steps as mentioned above in this work.

We investigate the time-variational characteristics of power spectrum and transfer function of geomagnetic field by robust estimation technique. In the case of power spectrums of geomagnetic field, there are some the periodic fluctuations related with solar activity, Meanwhile, the geomagnetic transfer function shows so considerable weak time-variational fluctuation that the estimations of transfer function seem to be comparatively stable in time-variant view.

This study evaluates the impact of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aerosol optical depth (AOD) expected error (EE) on the accuracy of surface reflectance (SR) derived from the KOMPSAT-3A satellite, utilizing the Second Simulation of the Satellite Signal in the Solar Spectrum Vector radiative transfer model. By considering a range of ground-based AOD and the resultant MODIS AOD EE, the research identifies significant influences on SR accuracy, particularly under high solar zenith angles(SZA) and shorter wavelengths. The study's simulations reveal that SR errors increase with shorter wavelengths and higher SZAs, highlighting the necessity for further research to improve atmospheric correction algorithms by incorporating wavelength and SZA considerations. Additionally, the study provides foundational data for better understanding the use of AOD data from other satellites in atmospheric correction processes and contributes to advancing atmospheric correction technologies.
