  • In this paper, we have made the component-based development of observational software for KASI solar imaging spectrograph (KSIS) that is able to obtain three-dimensional imaging spectrograms by using a scanning mirror in front of the spectrograph slit. Since 2002, the KASI solar spectrograph has been successfully operated to observe solar spectra for a given slit region as well as to inspect the response functions of narrow band filters. To improve its capability, we have developed the KSIS that can perform sequential observations of solar spectra by simultaneously controlling the scanning mirror and the CCD camera via Visual C++. Main task of this paper is to introduce the development of the component-based software for KSIS. Each component of the software is reusable on the level of executable file instead of source code because the software was developed by using CBD (component-based development) methodology. The main advantage of such a component-based software is that key components such as image processing component and display component can be applied to other similar observational software without any modifications. Using this software, we have successfully obtained solar imaging spectra of an active region (AR 10708) including a small sunspot. Finally, we present solar $H{\alpha}$ spectra ($6562.81{\AA}$) that were obtained at an active region and a quiet region in order to confirm the validity of the developed KSIS and its software.

  • All-perovskite tandem solar cells have been developed as a next-generation solar cell technology to surpass the efficiency limits of single-junction solar cells. By using perovskite materials with different bandgaps in the top and bottom cells, these tandem solar cells can effectively utilize a wider range of the solar spectrum. All-perovskite tandem solar cells have been focused as a next-generation solar cell due to their ability to achieve high efficiency while being manufactured through low-cost solution processing. This paper focuses on key components for improving the performance of all-perovskite tandem solar cells and essential components: wide bandgap perovskite solar cells, narrow bandgap perovskite solar cells, and charge recombination layers. The characteristics, main challenges, and strategies for overcoming these issues are discussed. For wide bandgap perovskites, efficiency is reduced by high trap densities and halide ion phase segregation. Improvement methods through additives and surface passivation are proposed to overcome these issues. In narrow bandgap perovskites, composition control and surface treatment techniques are being developed to reduce the oxidation of Sn-based materials and charge recombination in the perovskite. Additionally, the charge recombination layer is an essential component for efficient electron-hole recombination and minimizing optical losses, with materials such as transparent conductive oxides and ultrathin metals being used. These studies make a significant contribution to enhancing the efficiency and stability of all-perovskite tandem solar cells and suggest future research directions for commercialization.

  • In this research, the concept of a salt farm parallel solar power system, which produce salt and electricity at the same site, is proposed for the first time in the world. The concept is that large waterproof plates made by interconnected solar modules are installed at the bottom of the salt farm. The pilot system was successfully installed at a sea shore, and verified its feasibility as a solar power plant. For deeper understanding, simulations for power prediction of the system were carried out and compared with the field test results. The power generation of the salt farm parallel system is comparable to conventional solar power plants. The cooling effect by sea water contributes more to the increase in the crystalline silicon photovoltaic module performance than the absorption loss due to sea water by maintaining certain height above the module.

  • Industrial crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cells with using a screen printing technology share the global market over 90% and they will continue to be the same for at least the next decade. It seems that the $2^{nd}$ generation and the $3^{rd}$ generation technologies have not yet demonstrated competitiveness in terms of performance and cost. In 2014, new world record efficiency 25.6% (Area-$143.7cm^2$, Voc-0.740V, $Jsc-41.8mA/cm^2$, FF-0.827) was announced from Panasonic and its cell structure is Back Contact $HIT^*$ c-Si solar cell. Here, amorphous silicon passivated contacts were newly applied to back contact solar cell. On the other hand, 24.9% $TOPCon^{**}$ cell was announced from Fraunhofer ISE and its key technology is an excellent passivation quality applying tunnel oxide (<2 nm) between metal and silicon or emitter and base. As a result, to realize high efficiency, high functional technologies are quite required to overcome a theoretical limitation of c-Si solar cell efficiency. In this presentation, Si solar cell technology summarized in the International Technology Roadmap for Photovoltaics ($^{***}ITRPV$ 2014) is introduced, and the present status of R&D associated with various c-Si solar cell technologies will be reviewed. In addition, national R&D projects of c-Si solar cells to be performed by Korea University are shown briefly.
