There is an increasing concern over heavy metal(loid) contamination of soil in agricultural areas including paddy soils. This study was conducted to determine the bioconcentration factor (BCF) for heavy metal(loid)s to brown rice grown in paddy soils vulnerable to heavy metal(loid)s contamination, for the quantitative health risk assessment to the residents living nearby the metal contaminated regions. The samples were collected from 98 sites nationwide in the year 2015. The mean and range BCF values of As, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn in brown rice were 0.027 (0.001 ~ 0.224), 0.143 (0.001 ~ 2.434), 0.165 (0.039 ~ 0.819), 0.028 (0.005 ~ 0.187), 0.006 (0.001 ~ 0.048), and 0.355 (0.113 ~ 1.263), respectively, with Zn showing the highest. Even though the relationship between heavy metal(loid) contents in the vulnerable soils and metal contents in brown rice collected at the same fields was not significantly correlated, the relationship between log contents of heavy metal(loid)s in the vulnerable soils and BCF of brown rice wes significantly correlated with As, Cd, Cu, and Zn in rice. In conclusion, soil environmental risk assessment for crop uptake should consider the bioconcentration factor calculated using both the initial and vulnerable heavy metal(loid) contents in the required soil and the crop cultivated in the same fields.

This study investigated one-dimensional vertical infiltration to an unsaturated residual soil by numerical solutions, FDM. In order to estimate the parameters needed for numerical analysis, tire soil-water characteristic curve(SWCC) of Shinnae-dong soil, one of the most typical residual soils in Korea, were experimentally obtained. Then, the statistical analysis for obtaining the SWCC was performed. The numerical solution to the linearized governing equation for unsaturated groundwater flow provides the infiltration characteristics for the unsaturated residual soil represented by transient pressure profiles and water contents profiles.
This paper address the prediction method of a soil thermal property depending on soil moisture contents and suggests the guideline to determine the soil thermal resistivity for the calculation of the cuurent carrying capacity of underground power cables in Korea.

The purpose of study is to evaluate the effects of physical parameters on diesel biodegradation in diesel contaminated soil. The parameters applied are concentration, temperature, moisture contents, electron acceptor(O$_2$). The results of this study showed that diesel were degraded faster at high temperature and moisture contents than at low temperature and moisture content. However concentration effect study indicates that diesel were more faster degraded at low concentration than at high concentration. The results of electron acceptor test showed concentration of oxygen did not affect the biodegradation rate of diesel in oxygen condition(10, 20%) of this study.

This pot experiment was conducted to find out the forage productivity and mineral contents in an orchardgrass sward affected by the compost, lime, and phosphorus applications on the newly reclaimed and arable pasture soils. This 3rd part was concerned with the effect of phosphorus application($P_{0}$ : control, $P_1$=1.25g, $P_2$=2.50g, $P_3$=3.75g $P_2$$O_{5}$ pot). The results obtained are summarized as fellows; There were considerable differences between the newly reclaimed and arable pasture soils in the soil chemical characteristics as follows in general; poor~common in the newly reclaimed soil and common~good in the arable pasture soil in terms of soil fertility standard. Comparing with the arable pasture soil, the contents of available$ P_2$$O_{5}$ / in the newly reclaimed soil at end of experiment were considerably increased by the $P_2$$O_{5}$ applications, These effects in the newly reclaimed soil were positively influenced by the additional application of compost, but were adversely influenced by the additional application of lime. The seedling vigour and yield of orchardgrass were far better in the arable pasture soil than in the newly reclaimed soil. At the $P_{0}$ treatment, those were very poor in 也e newly reclaimed soil, but were good in the arable pasture soil. Comparing with $P_1$ treatment, the above effects of heavy $P_2$$O_{5}$ / applications($P_2$and $P_3$) were not recognized. On the newly reclaimed soil, the above effects were markedly enhanced by the applications of $P_2$$O_{5}$ with compost. The Ca, Mg, and P contents of orchardgrass were relatively higher on the arable pasture soil than on the newly reclaimed soil, whereas ere were no differences in the K contents.

This study was attempted in order to search for physical properties of sail cement. In this study, soil samples were specified according to soil particle analysis and used for compaction, strength, abrasion, absorption tests respectively according to different cement contents. Cement content sused in each treatment were 6%, 8%, 10% and 12% of total weight of soil-consent mixture. In the test, compressise strengths of the specimens were measured at the following ages; 3 days, 7-days, 14-days, 21-days and 28-days. Abrasion and absorption tests of the specimens were carried out at the 7-days age only. The results obtained from the tests are summarized as follows; 1. As the cement contents were in creased, the compressive strengths of soil-cement were almost proportionally increased. 2. The Compressive strength of soil-cement was not always proporportional to ages. The gradient of compressive strength of the soil-cement was steeper as the cement content was rucreased. 3. As the cement content was increased, the amount of the weight loss of the samples due to the abrasion was decreased remarkably, giving no abrasion for about 8% of the cement content. 4. As the cement content was increased, the absorption ratio of the specimens was not changed remarkably.

This study aimed to investigate the engineering and environmental characteristics of phosphogypsum-cement-soil mixtures composed of phosphogypsum, soil, and a small amount of cement was analysed on the basis of the unconfined compression test, the tensile strength test, the freezing and thawing test, the wetting and drying test, SEM and EDS analysis, XRD analysis and Leaching test. The specimens were manufactured with soil, cement and phosphogypsum. The cement contents was 10 %, and the phosphogypsum contents was 10, 20, 30, and 40 % by the weight of total dry soil. Each specimen was manufactured after curing at constant temperature and humidity room for 3, 7 and 28 days, after which the engineering characteristics of phosphogypsum-cement-soil mixtures were investigated using the unconfined compression test, the tensile strength test, the freezing and thawing test, the wetting and drying test. The basic data were presented for the application of phosphogypsum-cement-soil mixtures as construction materials. To investigate the environmental characteristics, leaching test was performed and the leaching test results were far below than of regulatory requirement of Waste Management Act in Korea. Therefore the results show that phosphogypsum is environmentally safe and can be used as construction materials in environmental aspect.

Experimental studies were conducted to make clear the soil moisture environment under the condition of paddy-upland rotational fields by investigating water-table depths and soil moisture contents during growing season of crops in two kinds of soil. The following results were obtained. 1.Although water-table depths fluctuated with the amount of rainfall in the experimental field, it seemed that the variation of vater4able depths in the paddy-upland rotational, field was strongly affected by the condition of locations on paddy fields. 2.It is recognized that the concept of sum of excess water depth(SEWxx) and sum of excess water day(SEDxx) can be used to represent the soil moisture stress index due to the fluctuation of water-table depths. 3.The results of this study clearly indicate that drainage in paddy-upland rotational field to maintain an optimum soil moisture content must be made by introducing the concept of block drainage which needs both subsurface drainage and intercept drainage around a field. 4.Soil moisture contents were affected by both the amount of rainfall and water-table depths, however, the moisture content for top soil showed higher correlation with the amount of rainfall while that for subsoil with water-table depths.
This paper presents the characteristics of soil ionization for different water contents, and the parameters associated with the dynamic properties of a simple model grounding system subject to lightning impulse currents. The laboratory experiments for this study were carried out based on factors affecting the soil resistivities. The soil resistivities are adjusted with water contents in the range from 2 to 8% by weight. A test cell with a spherical electrode buried in the middle of the hemispherical container was used. As a result, the electric field intensity $E_c$ initiating ionization is decreased with the reduction of soil resistivities. Also, as the water content increased, the pre-ionization resistance $R_1$ and the post-ionization resistance $R_2$ became lower with increasing current amplitude. The time-lag to ionization $t_1$ and the time-lag to the second current peak $t_2$ at high applied voltages were significantly shorter than those of low applied voltages. It was found that the soil ionization behaviors are highly dependent on the water content and the applied voltage amplitude.

This study was conducted to analyse the relation between physical characteristics of soil surface and wild plants occurrence. Lots of natural occurrence on loamy soil and a little of natural occurrence on perlite. Those were used to observe the wild plants occurrence through the duration. Natural occurrence of wild plants were observed on uniform sand, perlite, loamy soil and 2cms loamy soil layer above the perlite. Uniform sand was compared with different height of drain ditch. The results of analysis were as followed. 1. Wild plants germinated on the uniform perlite layer, they did not grow larger. Because water in large pores of perlite surface drained rapidly and evaporated easily, therefore surface remained low moisture contents. 2. A lot of weed grew on 2cms loamy layer on perlite which stratified above the perlite layer. Because perlite had plenty of soil moisture and soil moisture moved easily from perlite to loamy soil layer. 3. Uniform loamy soil had similar occurrence on the uniform perlite. It was nearly same at surface moisture distribution but lower than layered loamy soil on perlite, and the vertical distributions at soil moisture was totally lower than 2cms loamy soil layer on perlite. 4. Wild plants were grew on uniform sand on different height of drain ditch. In this case, much more wild plants were grew on which had more higher drainage ditch. The number of wild plants occurred when it was affected by soil surface moisture, drain ditch and natural occurrence of wild plants. This could be controlled by layered soil at surface moisture. Therefore weed occurrence can control in planting ground, where soil layer would not be disturbed.
