Recently, Umbrella Arch Method(UAM) is commonly used in order to enhance the stability of tunnel itself and stabilize the adjacent surface structure. But quantitative estimation of reinforcement effect is needed because UAM is designed and constructed only on the basis of empirical experience. By using 3-dimensional finite element method, parametric study is performed for elastic modulus of ground and overburden, and reinforcement effect is analyzed quantitatively. From the results, surface settlement decreases about 9%∼27% in soil tunnel, about 4%∼24% in weathered rock tunnel and 4%∼17% in soft rock tunnel when applied with UAM. The prediction equation for final surface settlement is suggested through regression analysis and the equation is expressed as exponential function which has variable Smax, unknown coefficient i and k.

The crossing construction under railroad have two methods which are cut and cover and trenchless method. First, cut and cover method is an extremely limited method concerning non-running time. Whereas, trenchless method is free from restriction such as train speed and running time, and has the strong points of safe and rapid construction. Front Jacking method, one of the trenchless methods, is frequently applied recently due to its stability during construction and vantage of assuring schedule reliability. The procedure is that after minimizing interlocking friction with structure and earth pressure due to jacking the small steel tube, pulling the precast box manufactured at the field in the ground using PC strand and hydraulic Jack. This method is able to be applied regardless of section size and length of box and condition of soil. And that is also pro-environmental. This paper presents the case of Daejeon E. W. perforate Road Project applied with the Front Jacking method.
The construction on these flimsy ground, activation of unsymmetrical surcharges, can often cause of the embankment road lateral flow or the destruction of the activities. In this study, the stability of the abutment pile foundation installed on soft ground and its behavior has been evaluated. The behavior of the abutment pile foundation under lateral flow was studied by verifying the behavior and reinforcement effects of the abutment pile foundation of previous studies about horizontal loads acting on the pile due to the lateral flow of the ground by performing finite element analysis. As a result of the consolidation analyses, the undrained cohesion or the strength of the soft ground, was increased by about 1.1 to 1.8 times by the increase in the strength of the soft ground according to the degree of consolidation. It is deemed reasonable to use 3.8 cm of the allowable displacement both economically and constructively, but considering the importance of the structure and the uncertainty of the ground, measurement shall be carried out during construction and thorough safety management of the lateral flow should be done.
The design of fabric reinforced retaining wall structure was discussed in this article. It was confirmed that the reinforced retaining earth wall which was designed by new theoretical formulae developed this time was stable structurally and economically. The plastic fabric filter which was placed in layers behind the facing element reduced the lateral earth pressure on the wall elements in comparison with a conventional retaining earth walls. The reinforcing characteristics of earth wall was governed by the spacing of fabric layers, effective length of fabrics, particle distribution and compaction, and thus it is essential that, in the construction field, the reinforcing strips should be selected in order to develop the maximum friction forces bet.eon soil and fabric filters. The maximum tensile stress developed from the reinforcing strips was appeared at a little far distance from the back of skin element and it was not well agreed with the Rankine's theory but distributed well as a symmetrical shape against the point of the maximum tensile stress. The total length of the different layers should be sufficient so that the tension in the fabric strip could be transferred to the backfill material. Also the total stability of reinforced earth wall should be checked with respect to a failure surface which extended blond the different lathers.
There are uncertainties about the seismic load caused by seismic waves, which cannot be predicted due to the characteristics of the earthquake occurrence. Therefore, it is necessary to consider these uncertainties by probabilistic analysis. In this paper, procedures to develop a fragility curve that is a representative method to evaluate the safety of a structure by stochastic analysis were proposed for cut slopes. Fragility curve that considers uncertainties of soil shear strength parameters was prepared by Monte Carlo Simulation using pseudo static analysis. The fragility curve considering the uncertainty of the input ground motion was developed by performing time-history seismic analysis using selected 30 real ground input motions and the Newmark type displacement evaluation analysis. Fragility curves are represented as the cumulative probability distribution function with lognormal distribution by using the maximum likelihood estimation method.

$\beta-Galactosidase$ is an enzyme which catalizes hydrolysis of lactose, a natural substrate, to glucose and galctose and transferring some monosac-charide units to active acceptors as sugar or alcohol. The occurence of $\beta-Galactosidase$ is known in various microorganisms, animals and higher plants and has been studied by many investigatigators. Especially, a great deal of articles for the enzyme of E. coli have been presented in genetic control mechanism and induction-repression effects of proteins, On the other hand, in the dairly products industry, it is important to hydrolyes lactosd which is the principal sugar of milk and milk products. During the last few years, the interest in enzymatic hydrolysis of milk lactose has teen increased, because of the lactose intolerence in large groups of the population. Microbial $\beta-Galactosidases$ are considered potentially most suitable for processing milk to hydrolyse lactose and, in recent years, the immobilized enzyme from yeast has been examined. Howev, most of the microbial $\beta-Gal$ actosidase are intracellular enzymes, except a few fungal $\beta-Gala-$ ctosidases, and extracellular $\beta-Galactosidase$ which may be favorable to industrial applieation is not so well investigated. On this studies, a mold producing a potent extracellular $\beta-Galactosidase$ was isolated from soil and identified as an imperfect fungus, Beauveria bassians. In this strain, both extracellular and intracellular $\beta-Galactosidases$ were produced simultaneously and a great increase of the extracellular production was acheved by improving the cultural conditions. The extracellular enzyme was purified more than 1, 000 times by procedures including Phosphocellulose and Sephadex G-200 chromatographies. Several characteristics of the enzymewas clarified with this preparation. The enzyme has a main subunit of molecular weight of 80, 000 which makes an active aggregate. And at neutral pH range, it has optimum pH for activity and stability. The Km value was determined to be 0.45$\times$10$^{-3}$ M for $o-Nitrophenyl-\beta-Galactoside.$ In any event, it is interesting to sttudy the $\beta-Galactosidase$ of B. bassiana for the mechanism of secretion and conformational structure of enzyme.

For the development of new antitumor antibiotics produced by microorganisms, Streptomyces sp. YBE-316 was isolated from soil. The productivity of the antitumor antibiotic from Streptomyces sp. YBE-316 gradually increased after 60 hours, and was maximum after 100 hours after inoculation in growth medium (2.0% sucrose, 1.0% soybean meal, 0.1% K$_{2}$HPO$_{4}$, pH 7.0) at 30$\circ$C, 150 rpm, 5 NL/min by 30 l jar fermentor. This antitumor antibiotic was present only in mycelium, and stable in pH 5.0-10.0 for 20 minutes at 100$\circ$C. Antitumor and antibiotic activities were maintained at neutral pH, and heat stability was low. This antitumor antibiotic was soluble in methanol and ethanol, and insoluble in water, ethyl acetate, chloroform, and n-hexane. This antitumor antibiotic was sequentially purified by acetone extraction from mycelium, butanol extraction, and silica gel column chromatography. Antitumor activity was low against most tested cell lines, but antibiotic activity was high and low against yeasts and bacteria, respectivelv. The visualization test showed that this antitumor antibiotic had higher hydroxyl, ketone, amino, carboxyl groups, and sugar(s) in its structure. Instrumental analyses showed that this antitumor antibiotic was a pentaene in polyene class antibiotics. In pentaene class antibiotics, this was considered as an eurocidin or capacidin type antibiotics. The molecular weight of this antitumor antibiotic was higher than 683.0 daltons, and this antitumor antibiotic might be glycosylated by other sugar(s), instead of mycosamine or perosamine, an amino sugar.

Land creeping is the imperceptibly slow, steady, downward movement o f slope-forming soil or rock. Because creep-related failures occur frequently on a large scale without notice, they can be hazardous to both property and human life. Korea Forest Service has operated the prevention and response system from land creeping which has been on the rise since 2018. We categorized and proposed three survey steps (e.g., preliminary, regional, detailed) for investigation of creeping susceptibility site with a focus on geophysical mapping of a selected test site, Yongheung-dong, Pohang, Korea. The combination of geophysical (dipole-dipole electrical resistivity tomography and reciprocal seismic refraction technique, well-logging), geotechnical studies (standard penetrating test, laboratory tests), field mapping (tension cracks, uplift, fault), and comprehensive interpretation of their results provided the reliable information of the subsurface structures including the failure surface. To further investigate the subsurface structure including the sliding zone, we performed high-resolution geophysical mapping in addition to the regional survey. High-resolution seismic velocity structures are employed for stability analysis because they provided more simplified layers of weathering rock, soft rock, and hard rock. Curved slip plane of the land creeping is effectively delineated with a shape of downslope sliding and upward pushing at the apex of high resistive bedrock in high-resolution electrical resistivity model with clay-mineral contents taken into account. Proposed survey steps and comprehensive interpretation schemes of the results from geological, geophysical, and geotechnical data should be effective for data sets collected in a similar environment to land-creeping susceptibility area.
The present microbial reinforcement of rock and soil exhibits limitations, such as uneven reinforcement effectiveness and low calcium carbonate generation rate, resulting in limited solidification strength. This study introduces electroosmosis as a standard microbial grouting reinforcement technique and investigates its solidification effects on microbial-reinforced uranium tailings. The most effective electroosmosis effect on uranium tailings occurs under a potential gradient of 1.25 V/cm. The findings indicate that a weak electric field can effectively promote microbial growth and biological activity and accelerate bacterial metabolism. The largest calcium carbonate production occurred under the gradient of 0.5 V/cm, featuring a good crystal combination and the best cementation effect. Staged electroosmosis and electrode conversion efficiently drive the migration of anions and cations. Under electroosmosis, the cohesion of uranium tailings reinforced by microorganisms increased by 37.3% and 64.8% compared to those reinforced by common microorganisms and undisturbed uranium tailings, respectively. The internal friction angle is also improved, significantly enhancing the uniformity of reinforcement and a denser and stronger microscopic structure. This research demonstrates that MICP technology enhances the solidification effects and uniformity of uranium tailings, providing a novel approach to maintaining the safety and stability of uranium tailings dams.
In this study, the annual growth of roots and their branching forms of Norway spruce(Picea abies [L.] Karst.) were analysed to compare the development of their root in the differently acidified forest soils. And there was no significant difference among the stands for the modified roots and the non-modified roots depending on the root branch forms, and however in the most acidified Weidenbrunnen stand, the modified roots, the abnormal root branch form such as fork, gun and rake types were appeared. As a result of the ring of the root, the annual horizontal root growth were 6.3cm for Weidenbrunnen and Barbis stands and 9.5cm for Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen stand. The average annual vertical root growth was 4.4cm, 5.4cm, and 6.7cm for Weidenbrunnen stand, Barbis stand, and Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen stand, respectively. The cross section area by root distribution at 80cm deep showed that the thick and thin roots were evenly distributed in of Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen stand and the sum of root cross section area was $32.6cm^2$. In Barbis stand, the thick roots were distributed in the center while the thin roots were comparatively rare. And the sum of root cross section area was $29.2cm^2$. In Weidenbrunnen stand, only a few thin roots were found, and the total root cross section area was $10.9cm^2$. The stability coefficient of roots were in the order of Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen stand(1.04), Barbis stand (0.3), and Weidenbrunnen(0.08) stand. Among the investigated Norway spruce stands, the modified abnormal root branching form and the low root growth appeared in the Weidenbrunnen stand could be attributed by the soil acidification etc.
