Dynamic shear modulus of the compacted clayey soil was determined by the resonant column test to study the parametric effects of confining pressure, shear strain amplitude, molding water content, compaction energy, void ratio and the degree of saturation. The effect of each of these parameters on the dynamic shear modulus found to be significant and can be explained in terms of the changes in soil by compaction. Dynamic shear modulus of the compacted soil is increased significantly by compaction and compaction at the dry side of the optimum moisture content is much more effective. It is also found that the dynamic shear modulus showes a good correlation to the static shear strength of the compacted soil. Therefore the dynamic shear modulus of the compacted soil for a certain confining pressure may be obtained ea8i1y from the unconfined compression strength.
It is important to pay careful attention to the backfill construction for the structural integrity of concrete box culvert. To increase the structural integrity of culvert good compaction by the dynamic compaction roller with big capacity is as effective as good backfill materials. However structural distress of the culvert could be occurred due to the excessive earth pressure by great dynamic compaction load. In this study, two box culverts were constructed with change compaction materials and construction methods. Two type of on-site soils such as subbase and subgrade materials were used as backfill materials. In most case, dynamic compaction rollers with 11 to 12 ton weights were used and vibration frequency were applied from 2000 to 2500 rpm for the great compaction energy. Backfill compactions with good quality soils were carried out to examine the effect of cushions on dynamic lateral soil pressure. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) and rubber of tire were adapted as cushion materials and they are set on the culverts before backfill construction. This paper presents the main results on the characteristics of dynamic earth pressures. Test result indicates that the amounts of increased dynamic pressures are affected with backfill materials, depth of pressure cell, and compaction condition. The earth pressure during compaction can give harmful effect to box culvert because the value of dynamic earth pressure coefficient $(\DeltaK_{dyn}=\DeltaK\sigma_h\DeltaK\sigma_v)$ during compaction is greater than that of static condition. It was observed that cushion panels of EPS(t=10cm) and rubber(t=5cm) are effective to mitigate dynamic lateral pressure on the culverts.
This study focuses on a prediction approach of compaction compensation grouting efficiency in sandy soil. Based on Darcy's law, assuming that the grouting volume is equal to the volume of the compressed soil, a two-dimensional calculation model of the compaction compensation grouting efficiency was improved to three-dimensional, which established a dynamic relationship between the radius of the grout body and the grouting time. The effectiveness of this approach was verified by finite element analysis. The calculation results show that the grouting efficiency decreases with time and tends to be stable. Meanwhile, it also indicates that the decrease of grouting efficiency mainly occurs in the process of grouting and will continue to decline in a short time after the completion of grouting. The prediction three-dimensional model proposed in this paper effectively complements the dynamic relationship between grouting compaction radius and grouting time, which can more accurately evaluate the grouting efficiency. It is practically significant to ensure construction safety, control grouting process, and reduce the settlement induced by tunnel excavation.

The compaction properties of the soil change depending on the physical properties, and are also affected by crushing of the particles. Since the particle size distribution of soil affects the engineering properties of the soil, it is necessary to analyze the material properties to understand the compaction characteristics. In this study, the size of each sieve was classified into four in the particle size analysis as a material property, and the compaction characteristics were evaluated by multiple regression and maximum dry unit weight. As a result of maximum dry unit weight prediction, multiple regression analysis showed R2 of 0.70 or more, and DNN analysis showed R2 of 0.80 or more. The reliability of the prediction result analyzed by DNN was evaluated higher than that of multiple regression, and the analysis result of DNN-T showed improved prediction results by 1.87% than DNN. The prediction of maximum dry unit weight using particle size distribution seems to be applied to evaluate the compacting state by identifying the material characteristics of roads and embankments. In addition, the particle size distribution can be used as a parameter for predicting maximum dry unit weight, and it is expected to be of great help in terms of time and cost of applying it to the compaction state evaluation.

Although permeating injection is ideal for grouting reservoir embankments, it is usually combined with fracturing injection for grouting, which can disturb the original soil. Compaction with low expansive pressure followed by grout injection can overcome this problem. An expansive compaction (EC) packer was developed in this work to easily apply sequential injection and compaction at a work site. Furthermore, to achieve compaction around the grouting hole, a mixture of expansive admixtures and grout was injected with the EC packer to trigger an increase in volume of the grout material. This work verifies the compaction effect of the EC packer and the expansive admixture. It reports the concepts of the EC packer, the range of expansive compaction, the effectiveness of injection, and the results of indoor tests performed to verify the effectiveness of the expansive admixtures. The indoor testing comprised a preparatory test and the main test. The preparatory test assessed the admixtures for their compaction effects, while the main test measured and analyzed the admixtures' expansive force, pressure, and compaction effect with a mold to verify the effectiveness of the compaction effect.
Even though the plate bearing test (PBT) to evaluate the load baring capacity and the field density test to evaluate the relative density are mainly used for quality control of soil compaction in Korea, use of the dynamic cone penetrometer test (DCPT) and the dynamic plate bearing test (DPBT) considering economic feasibility, rapidity, and suitability for field conditions increase to use for quality control of soil compaction. In this study, bearing capacity and relative density of subgrade with thickness of 20 cm, 30 cm, and 40 cm are estimated using PBT, DCPT, DPBT and field density test in three field compaction tests, and the relationship among various compaction evaluation methods is analyzed and discussed.
Composite foundation treated with compaction piles can eliminate collapsibility and improve the bearing capacity of foundation in loess area. However, the large number of piles in the composite foundation leads to difficulties in the analysis of such type of engineering works. This paper proposes two simplified methods to quantify the stability of composite foundation treated with a large number of compaction piles. The first method is based on the principle of making the area replacement ratios of the simplified model as the same time as the practical engineering situation. Then, discrete piles arranged in a triangular shape can be simplified in the model where the annular piles and compacted soil are arranged alternately. The second method implements equivalent continuous treatment in the pile-soil area and makes the whole treated region equivalent to a type of composite material. Both methods have been verified using treated foundation of an oil storage tank. The results have shown that the differences in the settlement values obtained from the water filled test in the field and those calculated by the two simplified methods are negligible. Using stability analysis, the difference ratios of the static and dynamic safety factors of the composite foundation treated with compaction piles calculated by these two simplified methods are found to be 3.56% and 5.32%, respectively. At the same time, both static and dynamic safety factors are larger than the general safety factor, which should be greater than or equal to 2.0 according to the provisions in civil engineering. This indicates that after being treated with compaction piles, the bearing capacity of the composite foundation is effectively improved and the foundation has enough safety reserve.
Worldwide, soil compaction work is one of the most important activities that are carried out on civil engineering works sites. Compaction work, particularly in the area of road construction, is considered to be important, as poor compaction work is closely related with poor construction even after a construction is complete. Currently, the plate bearing test or the sand cone method relative to the unit weight of soil test are commonly used to measure the degree of compaction, but as these require a great deal of time, equipment and manpower, it is difficult to secure economic efficiency. The method that is used to measure the degree of compaction according to the penetration depth achieved by free fall objects through gravity is the Free-Fall Penetration Test (FFPT), which uses a so-called "portable compaction measuring meter (PCMM)." In this study, the degree of compaction was measured and a penetration depth graph was developed after the field test using the portable compaction measuring meter. The coefficient of determination was 0.963 at a drop height of 10 cm, showing the highest level of accuracy. Both horizontal axis and longitudinal axis were developed in a decimal form of graph, and the range of allowable error was ${\pm}1.28mm$ based on the penetration depth. The portable compaction measuring meter makes it possible to measure the degree of compaction simply, quickly and accurately in the field, which will ensure economic efficiency and facilitate the process management.
In this paper, a series of model tests were performed in laboratory to evaluate promoting consolidation of compaction pile methods for soft ground improvement. For the model tests, composite soil samples that have 10% replacement area ratio were prepared by using sand, gravel, and sandy gravel for the materials of compaction piles. After loading to each composite soil sample, the excess pore pressure dissipation and settlement were investigated. In addition, the behavior of clay mixed with each compaction pile was also monitored at the end of consolidation to evaluate clogging phenomenon. As a test result, the effects for decreasing settlement and promoting consolidation by GCP were prominent, and the mixed clay was not monitored in all of the three compaction piles.

This study compared and analyzed the measurements of pullout load according to the depth of reclamation in the foundation, compaction ratio of soil, spiral diameter, and soil textures in an experiment with a model and reached the following conclusions: The comparison results of extreme pullout load between farm and reclaimed soil show that farmland soil recorded a score that was 1.2~3 times higher than that of reclaimed soil. The investigator measured pullout load in farmland and reclaimed soil and observed a tendency of rising extreme pullout load according to the increasing depth of reclamation and compaction ratio with a similar load-displacement curve between the two types of soil. Extreme pullout load made a greater increase by the rising size of diameter than the increasing depth of reclamation, also making a considerably bigger increase according to the rising compaction ratio than the other conditions. Therefore, the spirals bar is expected to be available in soft soil foundation, as well as farmland as increasing buried deep of foundations, compaction rate, diameter of the spiral, ect.
