Visible light communication (VLC) using LED lamps is suitable for implementing an indoor positioning system in an indoor environment where the global positioning system (GPS) signal does not reach. In this paper, we present an indoor positioning system for mobile robots using a VLC beacon and fuzzy rules. This system consists of an autonomous mobile robot, VLC modules, and device application software. Fuzzy rules are applied to plan the global and local paths along which the mobile robot navigates indoors. The VLC transmitter modules are attached to the wall or the ceiling as beacons to transmit their own location information. The variable pulse position modulation (VPPM) algorithm is used to transmit data, which is a new modulation scheme for VLC providing a dimming control mechanism for flicker-free optical communication. The mobile robot has a receiver module to receive the location information while performing its mission in the environment where VLC transmitters are deployed.
We propose a wearable system to help the visually impaired persons for walking safely to destination. If a user selects a destination, the system guides the user to destination with position data from GPS receiver and shortest path algorithm. At the same time, after acquiring complex spatial structures in front of the user with ultrasonic sensors, we categorize them into several predefined patterns, and determine an avoidance direction by estimating the patterns. As a result, visually impaired persons can arrive at destination safely and correctly without others help.
GPS observation has been performed at Khon Kaen in northeast Thailand to investigate the Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) change since August 2001 by using a Trimble 4000SSi receiver. The data obtained in the period from March to June in 2002 were processed by using CAMIT software to obtain the Zenith Tropospheric Delay (ZTD) at every one hour referring to some IGS stations around Thailand. We estimated the Zenith Hydrostatic Delay (ZHD) at every three hours with barometer data at Khon Kaen of Thai Meteorological Department, The Zenith Wet Delay (ZWD) was obtained by subtracting ZHD from ZTD and PWV can be calculated from ZTD. The results obtained shows that PWV changes with a large amplitude in March and April before the monsoon onset, and also we can see steep PWV increases before rain and decreases after rain. In May and June after the onset, the PWV is almost constant to be 60 to 70 mm, but there is a semi-diurnal change which has high PWV values at about 8 and 20 o'clock in local time.
Recently, KARI developed in-house meteorological sensor processing system named MESIS for GOES GVAR 5-CH Imager for better KOMPSAT EOC mission operation. MESIS consists of antenna system, receiver, serial telemetry card, processing and mapping software, and 2 NT PC systems. This paper shows system requirement, system design, characteristic and test results of processing system. System operation concept and sample image are also provided. Implemented system was proven to be fully operational through lots of operations covering from RF signal reception to web publishing.
The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) becomes more important and is applied to various systems. Recently, the Galileo navigation system is being developed in Europe. Also, other countries like China, Japan and India are developing the global/regional navigation satellite system. As various global/regional navigation satellite systems are used, the navigation ground system gets more important for using the navigation system reasonably and efficiently. According to this trend, the technology of GNSS Ground Station (GGS) is developing in many fields. The one of purposes for this study is to develop the high precision receiver for GNSS sensor station and to provide ground infrastructure for better performance services on navigation system. In this study, we consider the configuration of GNSS Ground Station and analyze function of Monitoring and Control subsystem which is a part of GNSS Ground Station. We propose Monitoring and Control subsystem which contains the navigation software for GNSS Ground System to monitor and control equipments in GNSS Ground Station, to spread the applied field of navigation system, and to provide improved navigation information to user.

This paper describes the procedure of the basic design and transient variation of performance for a 1MWe large scale solar thermal power plant system (STPPS) by using the commercial software tool of TRNSYS. In order to simulate the transient variation of STPPS's performance, the basic design of STPPS are preceded by using the THERMOFLEX, Three different days of DNI weather data of Daejeon in 2005 are used to calculate the performance. For a high DNI data values, the general ing power of 1.1 MWe and flow rate of 1.4kg/s at $804W/m^2$ are good agreement with the basic design value of 1.0 MWe, 1.36 kg/s at $800 /m^2$. Using the other weather data of low and sudden decreasing DNI values, the results show that the output power and flow rate follow well the DNI variation. Based on the results, it is allowed to use the Program to estimate the performance of STPPS for variety of DNI data.
The horizontal magnetic dipole as well as electrical dipole was adopted as a source to compute one-dimensional electromagnetic field behavior in controlled source magnetotellurics. he Cagniard impedances due to horizontal magnetic dipole source, especially phases, showed better frequency characteristics than those due to electric one. The magnetic dipole is inferior to the electric dipole in the point of relatively weak transmitting power at low frequency. But considering high resistivity charateristics of Korean geology, the magnetic dipole source is recommended for the survey up to depth of 500 m. A vector CSMT was introduced to get more reliable data in the area of two- or three-dimensional structures. A software and interpretation technique using polarization ellipses were developed. The technique was tested by synthetic data, which provided theoretical basis of the methodology. Although CSMT has inevitable limitation of investigation depth due to practically possible source-receiver separation, we proposed to use the technique developed in this paper where MT is not available, for example, in extremely noisy area or for shallow target.
Security has long been a challenging problem in wireless networks, mainly due to its broadcast nature of communication. This opens up simple yet effective measures to thwart useful communications between legitimate radios. Spread spectrum technologies, such as direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS), have been developed as effective countermeasures against, for example, jamming attacks. This paper surveys previous research on securing a DSSS channel even further, using physical layer attributes-keyless DSSS mechanisms, and watermarked DSSS (WDSSS) schemes. The former has been motivated by the fact that it is still an open question to establish and share the secret spread sequence between the transmitter and the receiver without being noticed by adversaries. The basic idea of the latter is to exploit the redundancy inherent in DSSS's spreading process to embed watermark information. It can be considered a counter measure (authentication) for an intelligent attacker who obtains the spread sequence to generate fake messages. This paper also presents and evaluates an adaptive DSSS scheme that takes both jam resistance and communication efficiency into account.
High-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) is generated from a nuclear burst at high altitudes above the Earth, the electromagnetic fields reach the ground nearly simultaneously with regard to the operation time of systems. The aim of this analysis is to inquire about HEMP characteristics and to analyze about effect in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. Specifically, HEMP characteristics are classified field sources, spatial coverage, time domain behavior, frequency spectrum and field intensities in this study. Bits error rate (BER) of the receiver with the software simulation is confirmed for the HEMP effect. Q-factor made a difference about interference duration by transfer characteristics of system. When Q factor is smaller, the recovery time from HEMP interference is short. To the contrary, if the Q factor is larger, the recovery duration is lasted longer by 300-600%.

Various frame recovery algorithms have been suggested to overcome the communication quality degradation problem due to Internet-typical impairments on Voice over IP(VoIP) communications. In this paper, we propose a new receiver-based recovery method which is able to enhance recovered speech quality with almost free computational cost and without an additional increment of delay and bandwidth consumption. Most conventional recovery algorithms try to recover the lost or erroneous speech frames by reconstructing missing coefficients or speech signal during speech decoding process. Thus they eventually need to modify the decoder software. The proposed frame recovery algorithm tries to reconstruct the missing frame itself, and does not require the computational burden of modifying the decoder. In the proposed scheme, the Vector Quantization(VQ) codebook indices of the erased frame are directly estimated by referring the pre-computed VQ Codebook Index Interpolation Tables(VCIIT) using the VQ indices from the adjacent(previous and next) frames. We applied the proposed scheme to the ITU-T G.723.1 speech coder and found that it improved reconstructed speech quality and outperforms conventional G.723.1 loss recovery algorithm. Moreover, the suggested simple scheme can be easily applicable to practical VoIP systems because it requires a very small amount of additional computational cost and memory space.
