  • The software GPS receivers based on the SDR technology provide the ability to easily adapt the other signal processing algorithms without changing or modifying the hardware of the GPS receiver. However, it is difficult to implement the software GPS receivers using a commercial processor because of the heavy computational burden for processing the GPS signals in real-time. This paper proposes an efficient GPS signal processing scheme to reduce the computational burden for processing the GPS signals in the software GPS receiver, which uses a fundamental notion compressing the replica signals and the encoded look-up table method to generate correlation values between GPS signals and replica signals. In this paper, it is explained that the computational burden of the proposed scheme is much smaller than that of the typical GPS signal processing scheme. Finally, the processing time of the proposed scheme is compared with that of the typical scheme, and the improvement in the aspect of the computational burden is also shown.

  • In this paper, design and applications of a generalized, versatile and customizable IF signal generator that can model the modernized GPS and Galileo signal is given. It generates IF sampled data that can be directly used by a software receiver. Entire constellation of satellites which is independent of satellite-user geometry is easily determined using a real or simulated ephemeris data. Since the IF center frequency, sampling frequency and quantization bit number are user location dependent parameters, their effects are also considered in IF signal generator. The generalized IF signal generator will be very well suited for the development phase of a software receiver due to its versatility. The full access to the sampling frequency, front-end filter definition and ADC parameters also offers a great opportunity for cost-effective analysis of tracking loops and error mitigation techniques at the receiver level. Interference sources can be easily added to the generator to simulate specific environments. This software IF signal generator can also be used to feed a multi-frequency multi-system software receiver for the prototyping of a combined GPS/Galileo receiver. The test result using the generated signals and a real software receiver shows the effectiveness of the implemented IF signal generator.

  • In this paper, we investigate the type and detection methode of spoofing attack, and then analyze the performance of spoofing detection algorithm in GPS L1 signal through the simulation. Generally spoofer is different from the jammer, because the receiver can be operated and not. In case of spoofing the GPS receiver is hard to recognize the spoofing attack and can be operated normally without stopping because the spoofing signal is the mimic GPS signal. To evaluate the performance of spoofing detection algorithm, both the software based spoofing and GPS signal generator and the software based GPS receiver are implemented. In paper, we can check that spoofing signal can affect to the DLL and PLL tracking loop because code delay and doppler frequency of spoofing. The spoofing detection algorithm has been implemented using the pseudorange, signal strength and navigation solution of GPS receiver and proposed algorithm can effectively detect the spoofing signal.

  • Modularized GPS software defined radio (SDR) has many advantages of applying and modifying algorithm. Hardware based GPS receiver uses many hardware parts (such as RF front, correlators, CPU and other peripherals) that process tracked signal and navigation data to calculate user position, while SDR uses software modules, which run on general purpose CPU platform or embedded DSP. SDR does not have to change hardware part and is not limited by hardware capability when new processing algorithm is applied. The weakness of SDR is that software correlation takes lots of processing time. However, in these days the evolution of processing power of MPU and DSP leads the competitiveness of SDR against the hardware GPS receiver. This paper shows a study of modulization of GPS software platform and it presents development of the GNSS software platform using MATLAB Simulink™. We focus on post processing SDR platform which is usually adapted in research area. The main functions of SDR are GPS signal acquisition, signal tracking, decoding navigation data and calculating stand alone user position from stored data that was down converted and sampled intermediate frequency (IF) data. Each module of SDR platform is categorized by function for applicability for applying for other frequency and GPS signal easily. The developed software platform is tested using stored data which is down-converted and sampled IF data file. The test results present that the software platform calculates user position properly.

  • The term "spoofing" refers to the transmission of counterfeit signals to provide undetectable falsification of GPS service. A spoofing can be accomplished using information from open literature which defines the signal format and the data structure. Spoofing is intended either to produce erroneous navigation solutions or saturate the processor of the victim receiver. The GPS receiver has no way to get rid of the effect of a spoofing because GPS receivers for civil service do not have an anti-spoofing scheme. This paper analyzes the spoofing characteristics, spoofing methods and environment conditions. And the spoofing effects on GPS receiver are analyzed in detail using the designed software-based spoofer and the Nordnav receiver.

  • By this time, in order to measure baseline in a few minutes, we must have used expensive dual frequency receiver. Recently, low-priced single frequency receiver have taken place of dual frequency receiver at short base-line by advancement in software development, improvements in geodetic survey receiver system. In this study, according to the observation time and measurement interval, we analyzed differences of each components of baseline by field experiment and we propose the criterion for the minor control point surveying by single frequency GPS receiver.

  • A GPS receiver platform has been developed to design an interference rejection filter and the platform is also able to evaluate performance of those filters. This platform consists of RF/IF part, data acquisition part and PC part. The RF/IF part converts RF signals to IF signals, the data acquisition part transmits the IF signals to PC using USB device. The PC part rejects the interferences with a filter and then it does navigation with GPS software receiver. The RF/IF part and data acquisition part had been validated with signal spectrum, and the PC part had been validated with the navigation results of GPS receiver. Finally, the entire platform including interference rejection filter has been confirmed with the navigation results in case that the GPS signals and interference entered this platform. As a result, the GPS receiver operated well against interference with 45dB JSR.

  • Recently, variety services are more and more developed due to supply of PDA, cellular phone, and etc. Also, a services based on location information are very helpful in traffic, shopping, and emergency. Thus the user position is positively necessary for these services. One of the latest applications in GPS is the E911 call service for wireless phones. In this case, current GPS Navigation accuracy meets the FCC requirements but the hardware size and power consumption of GPS is issued for implementation. And, some case of applications need to snapshot location solution with fast TTFF(Time-To-Fist-Fix) than continuous location solution. The software GPS receiver could be the solution ...

  • A multi-channel digital GPS receiver has been developed including a RF-to-IF engine (engine 1), a digital signal processing engine (engine 2) with a microprocessor interfacing, and a navigation software. A high speed SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) as a active device has been mounted on chip-on-board (COB) type hybrid ICs such as LNA, mixer, and VCO in RF front-end of the engine 1 board. A 6-channel digital correlator together with a real-time clock and a microprocessor interface has been realized using an Altera Flex 10K FPGA as well as ASIC technology. Navigation software controlling the correlator for GPS signal tracking, retrieval and storing a message retrieval, and position calculation has been implemented. The GPS receiver was tested using a single channel STR2770 simulator. Successful navigation message retrieval and position determination was confirmed.
