Image-based Soft Drink Type Classification and Dietary Assessment System Using Deep Convolutional Neural Network with Transfer Learning

  • There is hardly any person in modern times who has not taken soft drinks instead of drinking water. The rate of people taking soft drinks being surprisingly high, researchers around the world have cautioned from time to time that these drinks lead to weight gain, raise the risk of non-communicable diseases and so on. Therefore, in this work an image-based tool is developed to monitor the nutritional information of soft drinks by using deep convolutional neural network with transfer learning. At first, visual saliency, mean shift segmentation, thresholding and noise reduction technique, collectively known as 'pre-processing' are adopted to extract the location of drinks region. After removing backgrounds and segment out only the desired area from image, we impose Discrete Wavelength Transform (DWT) based resolution enhancement technique is applied to improve the quality of image. After that, transfer learning model is employed for the classification of drinks. Finally, nutrition value of each drink is estimated using Bag-of-Feature (BoF) based classification and Euclidean distance-based ratio calculation technique. To achieve this, a dataset is built with ten most consumed soft drinks in Bangladesh. These images were collected from imageNet dataset as well as internet and proposed method confirms that it has the ability to detect and recognize different types of drinks with an accuracy of 98.51%.

베트남지역에서의 연약지반 개량 설계.시공 사례 (A Case Study on Soft Soil Treatment Design and Construction in Vietnam)

  • GS E&C was awarded the contract for the construction of Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway Package EX-7 from Station Km 72+000 to Station Km 81+300 in December 2008. This project is the $7^{th}$ contract package of the 105.5 km long expressway near Hai Phong city, which includes a FCM-styled bridge along with high embankments over soft ground. For these high embankments, there is a need to treat the soft soil for improving the overall stability during construction and for reducing the post-construction settlement of the expressway. The Designer of this project had adopted four (4) different types of ground improvement techniques to treat the soft ground, including the prefabricated vertical drains (PVD), sand drains (SD), pack drains (PD, or sometimes called packed sand drains), and sand compaction piles (SCP). The main focus of soft soil treatment should be paid attention to the residual settlement after construction. In current design, however, it appeared that the secondary compression (or creep) of the improved soil layer and the consolidation settlement of the lower untreated compressible soil layer have been neglected in the estimation of the post-construction settlement. These uncalculated residual settlements may not only unsatisfy the design criteria but also raise serious problems during service period of this expressway. In this paper, the subsoil condition and current design were reviewed focusing on the employed soft soil treatment method and expected residual settlement.

Bearing capacity of footing supported by geogrid encased stone columns on soft soil

  • The stone columns are increasingly being used as a soil improvement method for supporting a wide variety of structures (such as road embankment, buildings, storage tanks etc.) especially built on soft soil. Soil improvement by the stone column method overcomes the settlement problem and low stability. Nevertheless, stone column in very soft soils may not be functional due to insufficient lateral confinement. The required lateral confinement can be overcome by encasing the stone column with a suitable geosynthetic. Encasement of stone columns with geogrid is one of the ideal forms of improving the performance of stone columns. This paper presents the results of a series of experimental tests and numerical analysis to investigate the behavior of stone columns with and without geogrid encasement in soft clay deposits. A total of six small scale laboratory tests were carried out using circular footing with diameters of 0.05 m and 0.1 m. In addition, a well-known available software program called PLAXIS was used to numerical analysis, which was validated by the experimental tests. After good validation, detailed of parametric studies were performed. Different parameters such as bearing capacity of stone columns with and without geogrid encasement, stiffness of geogrid encasement, depth of encasement from ground level, diameter of stone columns, internal friction angle of crushed stone and lateral bulging of stone columns were analyzed. As a result of this study, stone column method can be used in the improvement of soft ground and clear development in the bearing capacity of the stone column occurs due to geogrid encasement. Moreover, the bearing capacity is effected from the diameter of the stone column, the angle of internal friction, rigidity of the encasement, and depth of encasement. Lateral bulging is minimized by geogrid encasement and effected from geogrid rigidity, depth of encasement and diameter of the stone column.

전기비저항탐사를 이용한 성토하부 연약지반의 변형 해석 (Interpretation of Soft Ground Deformation under Embankment using the Electrical Resistivity Survey)

  • 해안 매립 연약지반상에 도로나 제방을 성토한 경우 연약지반 속에서는 침하, 융기, 측방유동 등의 지반변형이 빈번하게 발생한다. 연약지반의 지반변형 거동을 지상에서 원지반을 훼손하지 않고 조사하기 위하여 전기비저항탐사법을 적용하여 보았다. 본 연구에서 해안지역의 점토질 퇴적층이 주로 분포하는 서해안 시화지구의 매립지역에서 실험성토를 실시하였다. 실험성토후, 성토하중에 의한 연약지반의 변형 영향범위를 확인하기 위하여 전기비저항탐사법을 실시한 결과, 수평방향으로는 성토 지역에서 남측으로 약 5 m 범위, 수직 방향으로는 지표해 약 5~6m로서 성토 높이의 약 1.0~1.2배 심도까지 높은 전기비저항으로 성토의 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과 성토에 의한 연약지반의 변형을 해석하는데 전기비저항탐사 방법을 적용이 가능한 것을 확인하였다.

  • Quality evaluation for food and agricultural products have always been one of the most elusive problems associated with the handling , processing and marketing in a food plant production. In order to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products, non-destructive techniques have been developed for many years. Application of X-ray system to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products could be considered to be a high potential method. Especially , it is impossible to detect internal physical foreign materials by visual inspections. In this study, it was tried to be applied for two different X-ray devices. Soft X-ray system with CdTe sensor and X-ray CT scanner were evaluated for advantage of the detection of non-meltallic foreign materials in food and agricultural products . Though the soft X-ray is not a high energy radiation, it is possible to detect small different density in a material. The CdTe sensor has a high resolution for t e soft X-ray energy region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign material were expressed region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign materials were expressed as a soft X-ray energy spectrum. The energy spectrum was analyzed by a personal computer with a multi-channel analyzer. X-ray CT scanner can provide visual image and analyze by three dimensional information inside food and agricultural products. The X-ray CT scanner using as a medical equipment was used to detect a foreign material. The density characteristics of food and foreign materials in food were tried to be detected by the threshold value on the basis of the CT numbers. The soft X-ray absorption characteristics for acrylin plates and distilled water were obtained and could be found the possibility of detecting a small physical foreign materials such as a plastic wrapping film , a stone and grasshopper in food and agricultural products.

DCM 배치 형상에 따른 연약지반 거동 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Behavior Characteristics of Soft Ground by DCM Arrangement Type)

  • 본 연구에서는 DCM으로 보강된 연약지반의 거동특성을 평가하기 위하여, 모형실험결과를 이용하여 DCM 배치 형상에 따른 침하-측방변위, 침하-융기 관계를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 모형지반의 지표면 누적 침하 거동은 DCM이 적용된 지반에서 상대적으로 침하가 적게 발생하였고, 격자식, 벽식, 말뚝식의 순으로 동일한 하중조건에서 침하량이 적게 발생한 것을 알 수 있었다. 이와 같은 경향은 측방변위량과 융기량에 대해서도 동일하게 나타난 것을 확인하였다. 연약지반의 침하와 측방유동의 관계를 분석한 결과, 기존 연구(Leroueil et al., 1990)와 유사한 거동을 보이는 것으로 확인되었다. DCM 배치 형상에 따른 지반개량효과를 평가한 결과, 측방유동과 지반 융기에 대하여 격자식 보강이 벽식 및 말뚝식 보강에 비해 탁월한 지반개량효과를 보유한 것으로 평가되었다.

  • Chase 알고리즘 기반의 연판정 e-BCH 복호 방식은 차세대 DVB-RCS 표준화에 오류 정정 부호화 방식으로 체택되었다. 구현을 위해서는 기존의 경판정 BCH 복호기와는 달리, 특히 연판정 e-BCH 복호시 필요한 양자화 비트수는 구현을 위해 반드시 결정해야 하며, 성능적인 측면에서도 만족을 해야만 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 DVB-RCSNG에서 채택된 연판정 e-BCH 복호기에서 구현을 위해 최적의 비트수를 BER 성능을 이용하여 설정하였다.

  • LTE-A 시스템은 고속 데이터 전송을 위해 다중안테나를 장착하고 있다. 일반적으로 공간다중화 다중안테나 시스템의 수신기 복잡도는 후보벡터의 개수에 따라 증가한다. 후보벡터의 개수가 증가함에 따라 연판정 값의 신뢰도가 향상된다. 많은 수의 후보벡터를 생성하는 최우도 신호검출방식을 사용하면 우수한 성능을 달성할 수 있다. 반면 적은 개수의 후보벡터를 생성하는 저복잡도 수신기는 신뢰도가 낮은 연판정 값을 생성한다. 본 논문에서는 적은 수의 후보벡터를 사용해서 얻게되는 연판정 값의 신뢰도를 향상시키는 새로운 기술을 제안하고 모의실험을 통해 개선된 성능을 확인한다.

Soft polymeric materials near the transition from liquid to solid state

  • Soft polymeric materials have gained importance in recent years, namely in food, pharmaceuticals, photographic media, adhesives, vibration dampeners and superabsorbers (to name a few), but also as inter-mediates for selforganization of molecules or supramolecules into long range order. Many of these soft materials are close to their gel point, i.e. they are liquids just before reaching their gel point or they are solids which have barely passed the gel point. New rheological methods need to be developed for the understanding of these soft materials; the typical liquid properties (viscosity) and typical solid properties (modulus) are not applicable since they diverge at the gel point. This will be discussed in the following. Fortunately, chemical gelation experiments with model polymers has given insight into the behavior at the gel point (Winter and Mours, 1997). This knowledge of the critical gel provides us with a reference state when working with soft polymeric materials. Chemical gels will serve as model materials for the exploration of physical gels. A novel method for detecting the gel point has been proposed: the instant of liquid-to-solid transition(gel point) is marked by the crossover of the normalized dynamic moduli G'/cos($n_c$$\pi$/2) and G"/sin($n_c$$\pi$/2).>/2).

레이저 플라즈마 기반의 생물의료용 연 X-선 현미경 설계 (Conceptual Design of Laser Plasma-based Soft X-ray Microscope system for Biomedical Application)

  • Soft x-ray microscopy provides a unique set of capabilities in-between those of visible light and electron microscopy. It has long been recognized that nature provides a 'water window' spectral region between the K shell x-ray absorption edges of carbon (~290eV) and oxygen (~540eV), where organic materials show strong absorption and phase contrast, while water is relatively non-absorbing. This enables imaging of hydrated biological specimens that are several microns thick with high intrinsic contrast using x-rays with a wavelength of 2.3~4.4nm. Soft X-ray microscopy is therefore well suited to the study of specimens like single biological cells. The most direct advantage of X-ray microscope is their high spatial resolution when compared with visible light microscopes, combined with an ability to image hydrated specimens that are several microns with a minimum of preparation. Our study describes the conceptual design of soft x-ray microscope system based on a laser-based source for biomedical application with high resolution ($\leq$50nm) and short exposure time ($\leq$30sec).
