  • This study is focused on the causal relationship between children's intimate behavior and the level of perception towards their grandparents. Their perceptions are related to factors such as proximity, similarity, superiority, favorableness, and self-disclosure. We clarified the relation between intimate behavior and perception using effect factors of children's behavior regarding their grandparents so that this study could be used as an elementary material in developing a solution to improve grandparent-grandchild relationship where the grandparent actively encourages grandchildren's intimate behavior. Regression analysis was used as a hypothesis testing method. The results indicated the following three points. First, perception factors affect active intimate behavior in the order of favorableness, superiority, self-disclosure, and similarity. Second, perception factors affect intimate behavior will in the order of favorableness, superiority, and self-disclosure. Lastly, it was shown that a child's active intimate behavior has an influence on their intimate behavior will.

  • This study investigated the influence of socio-environmental variables and cognitive variables on adolescent depression. Subjects were 494 middle and high school students of Deagu. The instrument was a self-report questionnaire; data were analyzed by t-test, stepwise multiple regression and path analysis. Among Socio-environmental variables, social support variables had a stronger effect on depression than stress. Among cognitive variables, automatic thought had a stronger effect on depression than cognitive distortion and socio-environmental variables. In path analysis, social support had a direct effect on cognitive distortion and automatic thought. Automatic thought served as a mediater of the relation between social support and depression. Although adolescent stress resulted in high depression, its effect on depression varied with the level of perceived social support.

Using the qualitative methods-in depth interview genogram ecomap participation observation- 8 families were analyzed The major findings can be summarized as follows (1) These families showed very high family solidarity with strong collectivity. Their family role was interchangable and their familiarity was passed down from generation to generation. (2) Family members showed similar coping patterns on the basis of their own adaptationl Their coping was inclined toward acceptance especially religioous rather than emotional-focused ad hardly avoidance coping. (4) Although their economic emotional and service cares were family-centered with helps from their extended family household equipment for elder care was not prepared. (5) These families preferred to maintain this condition rather than to be well adapted. It was concluded that to help failed elder's family care iving social support program should be complemented in family life enrichment program for their children medical care program equipment rental program for elder in social network religion program and so on, Social norms forparent-children relation has be changed to more flexible care pattern. Also more social-emotional support has to be given to these families.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review is to explore end-of-life (EOL) care planning and the impact of socioeconomic status (SES) among people who identify as Black or African American. Methods: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) were used to guide and inform this systematic review process. The following academic electronic databases with publications that reflected the interdisciplinary fields related to the research objective were searched: APA PsycINFO, CINHAL, PubMed, Scopus, and Social Work Abstracts. Results: After the authors conducted the search, 14 articles (from 13 studies) ultimately met the criteria for inclusion. The results substantiated significant concerns highlighted in previous literature regarding SES and its relation to EOL planning, but also revealed an absence of original work and interventions to increase engagement in EOL planning among Black and African American populations. Conclusion: Black individuals deserve an equitable EOL experience. Researchers, practitioners, and policymakers need to move towards advocacy and action to meet this important need.

  • This study investigated the relation between stressful life events and adjustment in elementary school children, with particular emphasis on the potential main and stress-buffering effects of social support and social problem solving skills. 4-6 graders (N=170) completed the Social Support Appraisals Scale(SSAS) and social problem solving skills task. The SSAS is a 31-item measure that taps the child's perceptions or appraisals of family, peer, and teacher support. Their parents provided ratings of stress in the child's environment and ratings of the child's behavioral adjustment. Teachers provided ratings of the child's behavioral and academic adjustment. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses and graphic display were used to analyze the data. The major findings were that (1) The results for parent-rated problems supported a stress-buffering model for family support and problem solving. (2) The results for teacher-rated problems were consistent with the stress-buffering model of social support. (3) The results for grade-point average supported a main effect model for problem solving. peer support, and family support. In addition, teacher support had the strongest stress-buffering effect on grade-point average.

  • The purpose of this qualitative case study is to understand how the idea of data view and information graphics is used in the social studies high school textbooks. Data were collected through national curriculum documents and social studies middle school textbooks for the 10th grade students. We set up three questions for this study; what kinds of information graphics are used in the textbooks, how the graphics are organized in the social studies middle school, and how the 7th social studies curriculum is related with the 7th national mathematics curriculum. Through the data analysis, we found that 1) photographs, information tables, illustrations, etc., are used and frequencies of their usages are in descending order, 2) double lines graphs, and stripe graphs are often adopted for the comparison of populations, 3) the relation of the two subjects curricula is not well developed, especially in the curriculum steps of information maps, scatter diagrams, and comparison of populations. Finally we suggest that new web site of data view or information graphics be provided for two curricula, workshop of information graphics be needed for social studies teachers, and modification of the 7th probability and statistics curriculum.
