  • Fisheries are subject to unexpected weather condition. While some change of it may be positive for some fisheries, the current state suggests that the effects will be undesirable for many fisheries. The aim of this study is to assess the vulnerability to climate change in 11 regional fisheries of Korea using the framework of IPCC. The vulnerability assessment depends upon the interrelation of three key elements; exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity, which were derived from Analytical Hierarchy Process method in this study. These elements would contribute to comprehend relative importance at the regional characteristics of fisheries. We compared the vulnerability index of 11 regional fisheries so as to look for strategies and adaptation methods to the impacts of potential climate change. Jeoun-Nam, Kyeong-Nam, and Jeju are identified as the most vulnerable provinces to climate change on their fisheries because they have high level of sensitivity to predicted climate change and relatively low adaptive capacity. The relatively low vulnerability of Ulsan, Gyeonggi reflects high financial independence, well-equipped infrastructure, social capital in these regions. Understanding of vulnerability to climate change suggests future research directions. This paper will provide a guide to local policy makers and fisheries managers about vulnerability and adaptation planning to climate change.

  • Drought is a natural disaster that directly affects agriculture, which has a great impact on the global agricultural production system and yield. The lack of water storage in most parts of the country due to the lack of precipitation has caused a great increase in social interest in drought due to the dryness of rice fields and crops. As the drought period increases and the drought intensity becomes stronger, it is believed that drought damage to crops will continue; thus, it is necessary to understand the vulnerability to irrigation performance and the ability of irrigation facilities. Therefore, this study conducted a vulnerability assessment of irrigation facilities (public Groundwater well) in cities across the country. The survey was conducted using statistical data from 2007 to 2016, and the vulnerability score was calculated according to the vulnerability evaluation procedure for drought in the irrigation facilities (public groundwater wells). Among 157 regions, 136 areas were very vulnerable; 14 areas were vulnerable; 3 areas were normal; 4 areas were good, and 0 areas were excellent. The vulnerability assessment can be used as basic data for the development or maintenance of field irrigation facilities in the future by understanding the vulnerability of irrigation facilities.

  • Purpose: This study examined health determinants at a community level and put forward to a typology of five different forms of community health vulnerabilities. We also investigated the differences in the prevalence of chronic diseases, self-rated health, and quality of life (EQ-5D) among the five types. Methods: Latent class analysis was applied to material, social capital, and health behavior vulnerability variables across 255 regions of South Korea. The data came from 2017 & 2019 Community Health Survey. Results: We found five types of community health vulnerabilities: Type 1 group had the highest material vulnerabilities compared to Type 5. The typology was found to be significant in all the regression analysis on the prevalence of chronic diseases (hypertension and diabetes), self-rated health status, and quality of life. In the regions with high material vulnerabilities, the material vulnerability appeared the most effective to the health status of individual's. In the other regions with less material vulnerabilities, the social capital and health behavior resources were found to be effective. Conclusion: A comprehensive measure of vulnerability can be helpful to understand community health. Policy makers need to consider the level of material vulnerability when planning for a health promotion project.

  • Assessment of vulnerability of water use to climate change include a variety of climate change scenarios. However, in most future vulnerability studies, only the climate change scenarios are used and not the future scenarios of social and economic indicators. Therefore, in this study, we applied the Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) climate change scenario and Shared Socioeconomic reference Pathway (SSP) developed by IPCC to reflect the future. We selected indicators for estimating the vulnerability of water use, and indices were integrated with a multi-criteria decision making approach - Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The indicator data utilized national statistics and reports, social and economic scenarios, and simulated results from the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model which reflects climate change scenario. Finally, we derived the rankings of water use vulnerability for the short-term future (2020) and mid-term future (2050) within the Han River watershed. Generally, considering climate change alone and considering climate change plus social and economic changes showed a similar spatial distribution. In the future scenarios, the watershed rankings were similar, but showed differences with SSP scenario in some watersheds. Therefore, considering social and economic changes is expected to contribute to more effective responses to climate change.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that the characteristics of Protection Motivation Theory affects the addiction of social game users in Korea and then, to verify how these factors make an impact on the addiction through the immersion. The characteristics of protection motivation theory are vulnerability, severity, efficiency, and disability, and we want to study the influence of each characteristic on social game flow and the relationship leading to addiction. The results of this research can be useful for 'social game addiction prevention education'. This study was conducted to survey the users who had experienced using the social game to verify the suggested hypothesis. As the results of the survey, first of all, vulnerability appeared to have a positive effect on the flow. Secondly, severity appeared not to have a positive impact on the flow. Thirdly, efficiency turned out to affect the flow. Fourthly, disability turned out to have a positive impact upon the flow. Lastly, flow was revealed to make a positive impact on the addiction. The results of this study will help to construct the content of 'social game addiction prevention education program'.

  • One of celebrities using Social media caught public's eye and interest in Korea. Thereby the number of the user has grown rapidly and by last year it had reached to about 770 million. But at the same time, it has brought us social issues such as invasion of privacy, spreading of malicious code, and stealing of ID. To solve these problems, first the government need to establish adequate law and policy. Second, Service provider should remove vulnerability in the security system and filter illegal information. Third, individual user should put more effort to protect their own privacy. This paper will suggest a solution of using the Social media more sound and secure.

  • Agricultural drought is a natural phenomenon that is difficult to observe and quantitatively express, and agricultural water use is high and usage patterns are diverse, so even if there is a lack of rainfall. The frequency and severity of agricultural drought are increased during the irrigation period where the demand for agricultural water is generated, and reasonable and efficient management of agricultural water for stable water supply is required. As one method to solve the water shortage of agricultural water in an unstructured method, it is necessary to analyze the appropriate supply amount and supply method through simulation from the intake works to the canals organization and paddy field. In this study, irrigation efficiency was analyzed for irrigation systems from April to September over the past three years from the Musu Reservoir located in Jincheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do and Pungjeon Reservoir located in Seosan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) was used to collect agricultural water, and irrigation efficiency analysis was conducted using adequacy indicators, and water supply vulnerability. The results of the agricultural water distribution simulation, irrigation efficiency and water supply vulnerability assessment are thought to help the overall understanding of the agricultural water supply and the efficient water management through preliminary analysis of the methods of agricultural water supply in case of drought events.

  • There are two competing models explaining the causal relationship of depression and self-esteem, and they are cognitive vulnerability model and the scar model. Cognitive vulnerability model explains that low self-esteem poses as a risk factor for development of depressive symptoms/depression while the scar model asserts that the experiences of depression scars the cognitive function of individuals, resulting in negative self-perception. This study was set out to test two models on Korean adults, and to identify factors that are associated with depression and self-esteem relationship. The first four waves (wave 1~4) of the Korea Welfare Panel Study (KOWEPS) were used for analyses, and latent growth curve modeling was employed to examine the relationship. The findings show that the relationship was reciprocal, one affecting the growth trajectory of another over a four year period. Furthermore, education, poverty status, health status, and satisfaction with social relationships were found to be significantly associated with both depression and self-esteem trajectories. Implications for practice and theory are provided.

  • There are less studies on the adult suicide even though it's steep increase and negative effect on person itself, family and society. The purpose of the present study was to investigate factors that influence on the adult suicide and to categorize it. Using a case-study approach, a total of 61 cases were analyzed. Specifically, on the basis of the stress-vulnerability model, I scrutinized vulnerability factors(classified personal, family-environment, and social-environment factors) and precipitating events(classified personal, interpersonal events) influencing on the adult suicide. As the results of this study, adult suicide classified into 3 types, that is, 'risk type suicide', 'event-response type suicide', 'complex type'. And then I discussed the characteristics of the suicidal types and the method for reduction of adult suicide.

  • In this research, we propose a methodology for assessing security vulnerability of the national defense intelligence system, considering not only target elements but also the interconnection relationship of the whole system. Existing approaches decide the security vulnerability of the whole system by assessing only target elements. However, those approaches have an issue with potentially showing the same outcome for the systems that have identical target elements but the different types of interconnection relationships. We propose a more practical assessment method which takes the interconnection relationship of a whole system into consideration based on the concept of SNA(Social Network Analysis).
