Influences of Social Support and Social Stigma on Quality of Life of HIV Infected People : Mediating Effect of Hope (HIV 감염인의 사회적 지지, 사회적 낙인이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향 : 희망의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effect of hope relationships among social support, social stigma and quality of life. It was conducted to measure social support, social stigma, hope and quality of life from 197 HIV-infected people. Data collection was carried out through one-on-one interviews by counselling nurse. The mediating effect was analyzed through Structure Equation Model using AMOS 21.0 program and indirect effect was analyzed by bootstrapping method. As a result of analysis, first, social support had a significant positive effect on quality of life. But social stigma had a significant negative effect on quality of life. Second, social support had a significant positive effect on hope. But social stigma had a significant negative effect on hope. Third, hope had significant mediating effect within the influence of social support and social stigma on quality of life. It is suggested to develop and apply comprehensive intervention program for improve quality of life of HIV infected people in community.

The Effect of Social Support on Infant Mother's Parenting Behavior: The Mediating Effects of Parenting Stress and Depression (사회적 지원이 영아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 양육행동에 미치는 영향: 어머니의 양육스트레스와 우울의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study examined the effect of social support on infant mother's parenting behavior and mediating effects of parenting stress and depression between social support and maternal parenting behavior. Participants were 2078 mothers of infant (4-10 month) in Korea. Data were analyzed by Structural Equation Model. Major findings were as follows: First, social support showed direct effect on maternal parenting behavior. That was the more mother receive social support, mother show responsive and warmer parenting behavior on infant. Second, maternal parenting stress mediated the effect of social support on maternal parenting behavior. That was the more mother receive social support, the less mother experience parenting stress, which in turn contribute to responsive and warm parenting behavior. Third, Maternal depression didn't mediate the effect of social support on maternal parenting behavior. However, social support and maternal parenting stress showed direct effects on maternal depression. This research suggest the needs for development of diverse social support policies and program to help mothers reduce maternal parenting stress and depression.

Effect of Temperament and Social Support on the School Adjustment of Adolescents: Mediating Effects of Positive Psychological Capital (청소년의 기질과 사회적 지지가 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향: 긍정심리자본의 매개효과)

  • This study grasps the structural relationships between temperament, social support, and school adjustment by adolescents as well as investigates the mediating effect of positive psychological capital from relationships between temperament, social support, and school adjustment. Participants in this study consisted of 763 students in the second grade of five middle schools. Productive correlation analysis were conducted on data collected for this study using PASW statistics ver. 18.0 program; in addition, structural equation modeling analysis was conducted using AMOS ver. 18.0 program. The main findings are as follows. Paths appeared in different ways according to the investigation of mediating effect of positive psychological capital under the impact of temperament and social support on school adjustment of adolescents. Investigation showed that harm avoidance temperament had a statistically significant indirect effect on school adjustment with a medium of positive psychological capital. Novelty seeking temperament and persistence temperament had a direct impact on the school adjustment of adolescents; however, it appeared to also indicate an indirect impact through a medium of positive psychological capital. Social support seemed to indicate a direct impact on school adjustment of adolescents as well as an indirect impact through a medium of positive psychological capital. This study provides basic data to help in the school adjustment of adolescents using personal, environmental, and psychological variables that proves the importance of positive psychological capital in adolescence.

The mediating effects of social support and interpersonal competence on the relationship between empathy and caring efficiency in nursing students (간호대학생의 공감능력과 돌봄효능감의 관계에서 사회적 지지와 대인관계유능성의 매개효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate interpersonal competence and social support and their mediating effects on the relationship between caring efficacy and empathy in nursing students. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. Data collection was conducted from February 5 to February 12, 2019, from 254 students enrolled in the Department of Nursing in Jeollabuk-do and Chungcheongbuk-do. Data analysis was conducted using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: As a result of verifying the mediating effects of social support and interpersonal competence on the relationship between the empathy ability and caring efficacy of nursing college students, it was found that social support and interpersonal competence partially mediated the relationship between the two variables (Z=1.68, p=.046). Conclusion: Through this study, a theoretical basis was provided that when applied to an educational program could improve nursing students' caring efficacy. Content that can improve not only empathy but also social support and interpersonal competence should be included.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to confirm the relationship between nursing students' self-determination and life satisfaction in order to clarify the mediating effect of grit and social support, which can have a mutual influence on self-determination and life satisfaction. Methods: The data collection for this study was conducted from January 1 to 31, 2022, with nursing students enrolled in nursing departments at six universities located in three regions. The data collected in this study were analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistics 25.0 program. Results: The study found correlations between life satisfaction and self-determination (r=.64, p<.001), grit (r=.41, p<.001), and social support (r=.46, p<.001). Grit (B=0.06) and social support (B=0.06) showed a mediating effect in the relationship between self-determination and life satisfaction. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it is suggested that a program that can enhance the life satisfaction of nursing students be developed and implemented by focusing on social support, which is an external resource, and self-determination and grit, which are internal resources.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of the sex, age, degree of social support on self-esteem of the old aged and to provide information for finding out ways of developing their self-esteem. The subject of this study were 504 old aged in Kwang-ju and Jun-nam. The statistics used for data analysis were frequency percentage mean standard deviation reliability ANOVA stepwise and multiple regression analysis through the SAS package program, . The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows; 1) The self-esteem of old aged was 27, 2 which was above the median 22.5 2) According to the results related to the old aged the effect were by sex, age, social support, . There were also significant interaction effects by $age^{\star}$social support $sex^{\star}\;age^{\star}$aocial support $sex^{\star}$social support $sex^{\star}$age it was shown that influencing variable on their self-esteem was sex social support $sex^{\star}$social support $sex^{\star}$age age.

Development of Family Support Physical Activity Program for the Male Elderly with Sarcopenia based on Social Cognitive Theory (사회인지이론을 적용한 근감소증 남성 노인의 가족지지기반 신체활동증진프로그램 개발)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop family support oriented physical activity program for the male elderly with sarcopenia based on social cognitive theory. Methods: This program was developed through an analysis of 18 related intervention literatures, results of a focus group interview with 5 elderly men with sarcopenia and the content validity index of the program content adequacy and applicability by 6 experts. The combined exercise with resistance exercise and aerobic exercise was constructed in accordance with the recommendations of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and experts' opinions. Results: The program consists group education sessions (5 times, 60 minutes for each) for 12 weeks and family support oriented physical activity program composed of individual intervention (sending alarm for physical activity for 10 times and telephone monitoring for 2 times). The program also reflects the concept of self-efficacy and self-regulation, which are important factors for continuing physical activity through family support. The progressive resistance exercise was developed by composing 5-6 systemic movement forms that repeat 2-3 days a week and 2-5 sets at least. Conclusion: It is proposed to standardize the family support oriented physical activity program through the further studies so that the program can be utilized for the various groups of people who need increased level of physical activities.

A Study on the Caregiving and Adaptation in the Families who Awarded on Filial Piety (효행자 가족의 부양과 적응에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the caregiving and adaptation in families who awarded on filial piety. Using the qualitative methods-in depth interview genogram ecomap participation observation- 8 families were analyzed The major findings can be summarized as follows (1) These families showed very high family solidarity with strong collectivity. Their family role was interchangable and their familiarity was passed down from generation to generation. (2) Family members showed similar coping patterns on the basis of their own adaptationl Their coping was inclined toward acceptance especially religioous rather than emotional-focused ad hardly avoidance coping. (4) Although their economic emotional and service cares were family-centered with helps from their extended family household equipment for elder care was not prepared. (5) These families preferred to maintain this condition rather than to be well adapted. It was concluded that to help failed elder's family care iving social support program should be complemented in family life enrichment program for their children medical care program equipment rental program for elder in social network religion program and so on, Social norms forparent-children relation has be changed to more flexible care pattern. Also more social-emotional support has to be given to these families.

The Influence of Pre-service early childhood Teacher's Social Support and Adaptability to College Life on Teacher's Efficacy (예비유아교사의 사회적 지지와 대학생활 적응이 교사효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the influence of pre-service early childhood teacher's social support and adaptability to college life on teacher's efficacy. The study subjects were 394 pre-service early childhood teachers. The instruments were Social Support Scale, Adaptability to College Life Scale and Teacher Efficacy Scale. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS program. Frequency and percentage were used to determine the general background of the pre-service teachers. To examine social support, adaptability to college life and teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers, descriptive statistics analysis was conducted. To assess the relationship among social support, adaptability to college life and teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers, Pearson's correlation analysis was carried out. To examine the effects and relative explanation of esocial support, adaptability to college life and teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers, multiple regression analysis was conducted. From the study results, first, pre-service early childhood teachers had higher social support, adaptability to college life and teacher efficacy rates than average. Second, there was a positive correlation among social support, adaptability to college life and teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers. Third, teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers was influenced by their social support, and adaptability to college life. The study results suggest that a teacher efficacy improvement program for pre-service early childhood teachers should be provided for ensuring their social support. The study results also emphasize the necessity of social support and adaptability to college life improvement program for pre-service early childhood teachers.

Effects of Social Support, Abuse on the Ego-Integrity in the Elderly (노인이 지각한 사회적 지지, 학대가 자아통합감에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of social support, abuse on the ego-integrity in the elderly. Method: This is a descriptive survey study. Data were collected from March to June, 2008 with 306 older adults living at home. The questionnaires consisted of social support, abuse, and ego-integrity. Result: The average score of the subjects for social support was 4.5, for abuse 1.16, and for ego-integrity 2.91. There were positive correlations between social support and ego-integrity. The negative correlations were shown between social support and abuse, as well as between ego-integrity and abuse. The correlations were statistically significant. The social support and abuse were a significant predictor of ego-integrity. Conclusion: A program for improving social support and preventing abuse should be developed. In addition nursing intervention should be provided based on the developed program for this population.
