Background: Depression is a comorbid disabling problem and potentially affects patient likelihood of survival. The aims of this study were to recognize the characteristics of depression and investigate associated predictor factors in patients with oral cancers. Methods: A cross-sectional and correlational design was used to collect data for this study conducted in northern Taiwan. A set of questionnaires was used to measure depression, symptom distress, performance status, social support, and demographic and disease-related information. Logistic regression was conducted to determine important factors predicting depression. Results: A total of 132 oral cancer patients participated in this study. Of these, 18.2% were identified as depression cases. The patient average performance status score was 90 or higher. Patients reported mild-to-moderate levels of symptom distress. The majority of social support was from families. Religious belief, alcohol use, symptom distress, and social support from family were found to be important factors predicting depression. Patients with religious belief with alcohol use reported greater symptom distress, and those with lower levels of social support from families were significantly more likely to develop depression. Conclusions: Clinicians should assess patient emotional status and manage symptoms in a timely manner to enhance coping abilities. Supportive care provides assurance during the acute survivor phase.

This study aims to consider the role of women serving in the executive committee of the company and determine how it related to corporate social and environmental responsibilities (CSR and ESR). The data was collected from the 344 companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) between 2013 and 2014. Especially, the CSR and ESR data was collected from the annual report and used to measure activities related to environmental and social responsibilities of companies listed on the SET. This study employed panel analysis regression to analyze the relationship between dependent and independent variables. The results indicated that the role of women who served in the executive committees of companies listed on SET had a positive impact on the social and environmental responsibilities of companies listed on the SET. The Granger causality test showed that the proportion of women holding positions on the board of directors had a statistically significant relationship with CSR and ESR, which is a unidirectional relationship. Moreover, the size of the company and the return to total assets also have a positive significant relationship with the CSR and ESR.
This study was undertaken in order to examine the relationship of control, perceived health status, self efficacy, social support, and demographic characteristics to health promoting lifestyle of nursing students, and to determine factors affecting health promoting lifestyle of nursing students. The subjects were 270 students of a single university in Busan. The instruments used for this study was a survey of general characteristics, health promoting lifestyle (47 items), control(8 items), perceived health status(6 items), self-efficacy(17 items), and social support(18 items). Data analysis was done by use of mean, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation coefficients and stepwise regression with a SPSS PC+ program. The results of this study are as follows : 1) The average item score for the health promoting lifestyle was less than 2.43. In the sub-categories, the highest degree of performance was interpersonal relationships (2.94) and the lowest degree was health responsibility(1.93). 2) Students who were older and higher scores in health responsibility and interpersonal support subscale. Students who had higher grade had higher scores in health support subscale. Students who had experienced disease had higher scores in health responsibility subscale. Students who had experienced exercise had higher scores in health responsibility, exercise and nutrition subscale. 3) Significant correlation between control and self-efficacy, self-efficacy and social support was found. 4) Significant correlations was found between most of the subscales and total health promoting lifestyle. 5) Social support revealed significant correlations with total health promoting lifestyle and all subscales of health promoting lifestyle. Control revealed significant correlations with total health promoting lifestyle and self actualization and health responsibility. Perceived health status revealed significant correlations only with the exercise and nutrition subscale. Social support, excercise self-efficacy and control accounted for 35% in health promoting lifestyle of nursing students.
Objectives: This study investigated the need for nutrition education aimed at improving the health of residents and users of social welfare facilities for persons with disability and aimed to provide basic information for developing a nutrition education program that meets the needs of the field. Methods: Altogether, 249 employees working in social welfare facilities for people with disabilities were included in the study. Data on the health status of residents/users, meal management, nutritional education, nutritional education needs, and awareness of nutritional education were obtained through online surveys. A descriptive analysis was conducted to analyze the demographic characteristics, needs, and perceptions of the respondents, and independent t-tests and χ2 tests were performed to analyze and compare the differences between residential and daycare facilities. Results: The majority of residents/users of social welfare facilities for persons with disabilities have developmental disabilities. When educating residents with residents/users of social welfare facilities, 'personal hygiene' was the most necessary topic, followed by 'obesity management' education. Regarding the methods of providing education, face-to-face lectures demonstrated a high demand. They responded that when nutrition education experts provide nutrition education to people with disabilities, they must understand 'the physical characteristics of persons with disabilities' and have the ability to determine appropriate nutrition for such people. The most appropriate nutrition program training would be twice a year, lasting 30 min to 1 h per training session. Conclusions: It will present a direction for operating a nutrition education program for persons with disabilities that meets their needs of social welfare facilities and ultimately contribute to the establishment and activation of nutrition education tailored to welfare facilities for such individuals in Korea.
The study examined the characteristics of the relationship of home environment variables and children's social development. Two studies were conducted ; Study I examined (1) the correlation of home environment variables and children's social ability and (2) the predictability of home environment variables for children's social ability by children's age. Study II investigated the causal relationship among the variables which are supposed to affect children's social ability. The subjects of this study were 240 children at age four, six and eight attending nursery schools, kindergartens and elementary schools and their mothers. Instruments included the Inventory of Home Stimulation (HOME), the Inventory of Sociodemographic Variables, social maturation scale, and the social-emotional developmental rating scale. The results obtained from this study were as follows : 1) Home environment variables had a positive correlation with children's social development at age four and six, but at age eight, only HOME variables had a significant positive correlation with children's social development. 2) The home environmental variables that significantly predicted children's social development differed according to children's age. That is, play materials, economic status of the home, and parent education were predictive of children's social development at age four, while parent's education, fostering maturity and independence, and play materials were predictive at age six. Fostering maturity and independence, aspects of physical environment, and economic status of the home were predictive at age eight. 3) The causal model of home environment effect on children's social development was formulated by exogenous variables (parent education and economic status of the home) and endogenous variables (direct stimulation, indirect stimulation and the emotional climate of the home). 4) The results of the analysis of the causal model showed that the variables that have a direct effect on children's social development differed according to children's age. That is, direct stimulation had more effect on children's social development at earlier ages, and indirect stimulation had more effect on children's social development at later ages. Among socio-demographic variables, parent's education was most closely related to children's social development. The amount of variance that explained children's social development decreased with increase in children's age.
Objectives : This study was aimed to investigate burn out degree of K.M.D.s(Korean medicine doctors) who work at convalescent hospitals and to find contributional factors for the result. The relationship between burn out and job performance was also studied.
