This study examined the meanings of the disability education of the mothers who reared their children with brain lesions. For this purpose, Rennie's hermeneutic grounded theory was applied and the consented 7 mothers participated in this study. With the in-depth interviews, 53 meaning units, 16 subordinate categories and 7 hermeneutic categories were classified. These 7 hermeneutic categories were 'wailing miserably everyday', 'social mobilization of the surroundings', 'straight forward', 'smash rock with the eggs', 'looking at a faraway', 'learning together' and 'subjectivation of disability education.' The experience of disabled children education process was concurrent experience of frustration and hoping that moving toward a big hope through the resignation stage, the chasing stage, the vision stage, the challenge stage, and the small achievement stage. Repetitive common patterns of behavior revealed three types: wishy-washy type, realistic-strategy type, and indomitable-challenge type. Moreover, the core category of educational experience was concluded to be 'a pedagogical process of turning despair from severe disabilities into hope through education.' Based on the analysis results, concrete intervention plans for social welfare practice were suggested to support the disabled children's lives with high quality of education.

This study aims to construct a basic PBL class research data model that can strengthen and improve technical college students' abilities to participate in field-education classes and problem-solving skills. A significant effect was found in PBL classes with regard to technical college students' problem-solving skills and abilities to participate in field-education classes, as posited by the hypothesis. The results of the PBL course, which is a hypothesis of research, have been confirmed to have a significant effect on the participation of college students in field practice and on the ability to solve problems. Seventy-one students from five departments (humanities, social studies, and arts) at D University in North GyeongSang Province were selected as final subjects. The study was conducted for seven weeks from October 10 to December 05, 2021, in three stages: pre-inspection, PBL operation, and post-inspection. In the college life experiences of students with disabilities who study late within the Department of Social Welfare, it was confirmed that the study participants independently changed toward their independent life satisfaction and positive perception of themselves as a process of change in which the self-determination rights and goals and hopes for their lives by seeking the role for the disabled who have not yet been encountered and in the process of positively recognizing themselves.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of household income on children's academic achievement, and to identify the mediating effects of parental time and material investment in the relationship between the two variables. We utilized the third-wave data of the "Seoul Panel Study of Children Surveys(SPSC, 2006)". The major findings of the present study are as follows. First, the results show that household income has a positive influence on children's academic achievement. Second, parental material investment fully mediates the influence of household income on children's academic achievement. Among the variables representing parental material investment, the mediating effects of "purchasing of cognitively stimulating materials" and "participating in extracurricular activities' are found to be statistically significant. However, the two variables representing parental time investment ("parent activities with child out of home" and "parent involvement in school") do not have any significant influence on children's academic achievement. These results indicate that the influence of household income on children's academic achievement can be better explained by parental material investment rather than parental time investment. Implications for policy and practice are discussed.

Objectives: Community organization is a resident-led movement aimed at creating fundamental social changes in the community by resolving its problems through the organized power of its residents. This study evaluated the effectiveness of health community organization (HCO), Gangwon's Health-Plus community program, implemented from 2013 to 2019 on residents' health behaviors. Methods: This study had a before-and-after design using 2011-2019 Korea Community Health Survey data. To compare the 3-year periods before and after HCO implementation, the study targeted areas where the HCO had been implemented for 4 years or longer. Therefore, a total of 4512 individuals from 11 areas with HCO start years from 2013 to 2016 were included. Complex sample multi-logistic regression analysis adjusting for demographic characteristics (sex, age, residential area, income level, education level, and HCO start year) was conducted. Results: HCO implementation was associated with decreased current smoking (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.73; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.57 to 0.95) and subjective stress recognition (aOR, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.64 to 0.97). Additionally, the HCO was associated with increased walking exercise practice (aOR, 1.39; 95% CI, 1.13 to 1.71), and attempts to control weight (aOR, 1.36; 95% CI, 1.12 to 1.64). No significant negative changes were observed in other health behavior variables. Conclusions: The HCO seems to have contributed to improving community health indicators. In the future, a follow-up study that analyzes only the effectiveness of the HCO through structured quasi-experimental studies will be needed.
This study aims to present a more systematic and developmental research direction by classifying animal-mediation related research trends published in Korea. We analyzed the research trends of 68 domestic animal-mediation programs published in 26 journals over the past 24 years under the premise of the necessity of animal-assisted therapy, which considered a very effective intervention method in the practice areas of various subjects. Therefore, this study examines the year of publication of animal-mediation related research conducted in various academic fields from 1998 to 2022, research data sources, characteristics of research subjects, types of interventions and research topics, research design and intervention sessions, intervention methods, and ethical consideration statements. The results of this study are as follows: First, in the source of research and research trends by year, the number of papers published in animal-related societies was the highest at 34 (50%); the number of studies has been steadily increasing since the mid-2000s. Second, regarding research trends by subject, 45 (66%) were general subjects, 23 (34%) were medically diagnosed, 60 (88%) were selected through pre-evaluation, and 8 (12%) were requested. Third, regarding research trends by method, 27 (40%) of the pretests were conducted before and after the experiment-control group, and only 3 (4%) of the 68 papers were examined later. Fourth, regarding research trends by content, depression (25%) was the most frequently applied variable, and regarding intervention sessions, 53 (78%) were less than 12 sessions. Fifth, regarding research trends and ethical consideration statements by treatment approach method, 58 cases (85%) of individual treatment approaches and 10 cases (15%) of intervention approaches integrated with individual treatment approaches, and 23 cases (34%) of studies with ethical consideration statements or the Institutional Review Board's (IRB) approval. Based on the study results, the implications and research directions of animal-assisted therapy related research are discussed.
This study compared the effects of programs according to management type by preparing a manual for oral muscle exercises that integrates oral movement and oral massage. The program was performed on 14 elderly patients in a seniors' college self-practice program group and 28 elderly patients in a social welfare center expert intervention group. In the self-practice group, an expert demonstrated oral muscle exercises and subsequently encouraged self-practice by selecting an oral muscle exercise leader. In the expert intervention group, an expert demonstrated oral exercises on a one-on-one basis and subsequently gave oral muscle massages. In the self-practice group, there was no difference in saliva secretion (p=0.213) or oral dryness (p=0.206), after the intervention, the expert intervention group showed improvements in saliva secretion (p=0.009) and oral dryness (p=0.007). There was no difference in program satisfaction between groups (p=0.143), and both groups reported high satisfaction. As seniors may have difficulty in maintaining oral health behaviors, a certain amount of expert intervention may be needed. The results suggest that both a self-practice oral exercise program and an expert intervention program can be effective elderly patients.

This study analyzed the influence of career-education on job satisfaction in the multicultural family service centers focused on the mediating effects of multicultural practice competence and organizational climate. A self-reported questionnaire survey was done on 180 multicultural practitionser in Seoul and Kyunggi Do. A total of 175 copies were used for final analysis with ones insincerely made were excluded. Collected date underwent Multivariate structural equation model analysis using AMOS 21.0 and frequency, descriptive, and corelation analysis were made using SPSS 20.0. Statistical program. The study results revealed that career-education directly affect organizational climate and multicultural practice competence, and organizational climate directly affected job satisfaction. Career education did not affect job satisfaction, but organizational climate had complete mediating effect in the structural equation model. Additionally multicultural practice competence didn't have an effect on job satisfaction and mediating effect in the structural equation model. Based on the results, intervention strategies to increase job satisfaction of multicultural practitioners and future study implications were suggested.

The purpose of this study was to review various grounds and plans for the establishment of a convergence major in lifelong education for the disabled based on Daegu University, which establishes its status and identity as a base university for education and welfare for the disabled. Lifelong education for the disabled reflects the specificity of disability in common because it targets disabled learners, but since it constitutes two perspectives and characteristics of education and welfare, access to interdisciplinary convergence research in disabled-related fields is important. In the above dimension, Daegu University has an appropriate foundation to lead lifelong education for the disabled in Korea through various academic and practice-based infrastructures, and has sufficient leadership to improve the practical limitations of the lifelong education support system for the disabled. Accordingly, this study presented measures and related grounds to reflect lifelong education for the disabled in order to establish an interdisciplinary convergence major at Daegu University through literature review and expert advice. It was emphasized that lifelong education for the disabled, viewed as a new interdisciplinary convergence major, should be activated through professional competencies commonly accessible to the three fields rather than applied from a priority perspective between special education, rehabilitation science, and social welfare. As a result of the study, it was suggested that Korea, which failed to establish a lifelong education support system for the disabled, should gradually spread and spread to other universities starting with Daegu University's application model and plan. In addition, the necessity of systematically establishing a qualification development path for lifelong education professionals for the disabled through agreement between the three fields was also suggested.
This study examines the factors influencing Korean international adoptee's search for their birthparents. Considering that the search for birthparents is general needs for adoptees, Korean government should support their searching activities and, first of all, understand their characteristics. The research model was constructed based on the results of previous studies, and the data set of conducted by ministry of health and welfare was reanalyzed for this study. The subjects of the survey were Korean-born adoptees (who are more than 16 years old) in North America, Europe, and Australia. The research questionnaire was translated to English and French, and the survey was conducted on line. A total of 290 questionnaires were included in the analysis. Since survey was conducted on line, the missing rate of the data was relatively high. So, multiply imputed five data sets were used for analysis. Among the variables included in research model, the age group of adoptees, experience of identity crisis in their life, the first time when they became actively interested in Korean roots, the age at the time of adoption, and the attitudes of adoptive parents toward their search were significantly related to their search for birthparents. Adoptees in the age group of 30~34 had more actively participated in search compared to their reference group (which is the age group of more than 35 years old). The earlier they became actively interested in Korean roots, they tended to be more active in searching activities. Also, the experience of identity crisis in life and the age at the time of adoption were positively related to their search. Although most of adoptive parents have supported their search, the adoptees who reported that they didn't know their adoptive parents' attitude toward search, or their parents deceased had more actively participated in search for their birthparents. Some implications for adoption policy and practice were discussed based on the results of the study.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of job characteristics on smoking, and the mediating effects of job stress between job characteristics and smoking among elderly workers. Methods: This study employed data from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing, and a total of 778 older workers were used for analysis. Current smoking status, job stress, job characteristics including physical job demands, job demands related to contents, working days, regularity of working hour, satisfaction with income, and sociodemographic factors were analyzed. Descriptive analysis, t-tests, chi-square test, multiple linear regression, and logistic regression were used for analysis. Results: Results showed that physical job demands and regularity of working hours were significant predictors of smoking of elderly workers. The higher level of physical job demands and regular working-hour increased the risk of smoking. Also, physical job demands, job demands related job contents, and income satisfaction directly impacted on job stress. However, job stress did not mediate the relationship between job characteristics and smoking. Conclusions: The findings suggest that smoking interventions for older workers should take into account job characteristics. Implications for practice and future study directions are discussed.
