The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy to prevent relapse of substance abuse. A total of 8 substance abusing adult clients participated in the program. All the clients were charged with substance use at the time of implementing the program. Two master's level social workers operated the program, which was implemented in a probation office in Seoul. This study included Beliefs about substance use, abstinence self-efficacy, and coping skills as dependent variables in order to investigate the effectiveness. Cognitive-behavioral therapy emphasizes the enhancement of these cognitive and behavioral skills to prevent relapse of substance use. Research hypotheses were partially supported. That is, clients participated in the program had more negative attitude toward substance use and had more effective problem-focused coping skills. Although a research hypothesis of the enhancement of clients' self efficacy was not supported, their mean scores at the final post test were lower than scores at pretest. This study suggests that more studies be needed to in order to confirm the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy with substance abusing clients.

This study is to test moderating effects of North Korean Refugees' coping styles in the causal relation between social support and psychological wellbeing and suggest policy implications for helping social adjustment of North Korean Refugees. For this study, 100 North Korean Refugees were sampled and surveyed. The analytical result of this study showed that the degree of psychological wellbeing was highest among the refugees of the entire families migration. Also, this study showed that the causal relationship between social support and psychological wellbeing was not significant, and moderating effects of emotional support and appraisal support were significant, while moderating effects of material support and informative support were not significant. In this study, we suggested some policy implications basing on this analytical results.
This study examines the effects of work-family conflict among public social welfare officers on turnover intentions and verifies the mediating effects of exhaustion and job satisfaction. For research and analysis, the data of a survey conducted by the Nowon District Research Organization were used to determine the actual state of welfare personnel in charge of the community center's home-visiting service, and an analysis was conducted of 146 public social welfare officers from 19 community centers located in the Nowon District. The analysis results show that work-family conflict affects exhaustion but does not have either a direct or indirect effect on turnover intentions. On the basis of these results, the study proposes policy and practical implications for a work-family compatibility support policy to reduce exhaustion and increase job satisfaction among public social welfare officers.
The purpose of this study is to find the mediative effects of social capital in the effective path of the satisfaction of education welfare project on school adaptation, and to find out the path difference between elementary and middle school students. We surveyed 153 elementary and 124 middle school students in Gangwondo. These data analyzed by multiple group analysis of structural equation. Elementary school students realized that social capital has an effect on school adaptation. Middle school students realized that the satisfaction of education welfare project has an effect on school adaptation, and social capital has an effect on school adaptation. There is not a mediative effect of school capital on the effect of the satisfaction on school adaptation for two groups. Based on these results, implications to improve the school adaptation for elementary and middle school students were suggested.

Modern society has become an aging society, and the National Statistics Office(NSO) expects that Korea will be also an aging society by 2019, that is, people over the age of 65 will account for 14 percent from the total population. In addition, the increase of labor flexibility is also one of the dramatic features in modern society. However, this social shift have unpredictable results, that is, the advent and increase of grandparent and grandchildren family. Modern medical technology has given Koreans longer expectancies, and structural and economic changes in society have brought early retirement. One of the main reasons that grandparent and grandchildren family increase is below an average of two children per family. There are various services available such as Health support center, Dream start center, Youth support center, Community child center, and Community welfare center. Besides, schools operates various programs for grandparent and grandchildren family with social workers and school counselors. But, most of all, what is necessary is a change of perspective on them. Basically, we need to develop a clear perspective on grandparent and grandchildren family as a not dismantling family type but alternative family type with creating a separate program or service
This paper examines the level of community solidarity in an administrative district in Seoul, Korea. This paper focuses on the following questions: what is the level of community solidarity in the district? and what are the major predictors of community solidarity?. Using the data from the 2000 community survey about residents' needs conducted by the welfare administration office of the district, this paper attempts to answer the above research questions. In analyzing the effect of community solidarity, this paper focuses on the following four predictor categories: individual characteristics; community related characteristics such as degree of marginalization; community participation, and community problems. Results are as follows: (1) the average of community solidarity is 3.1, using 5 points scale; and (2) the variables such as marginalization and community problem have a negative effect on the level of community solidarity; and (3) community participation has a positive effect on the level of community solidarity. Through the empirical analysis. this paper provides valuable knowledge about the level of community solidarity and effects of community participation, marginalization, and community problem on community solidarity. Finally, this paper discusses implications for effective community practice on the basis of the exploratory findings about community solidarity in Korea.
This study was carried out to grasp visiting nurses' perception of the service referral between health and welfare with a view to providing the basic data for the visiting nursing activities. A questionnaire survey was conducted on public health nurses in 25 health centers in Seoul from Feb. 12, 2001 to Mar. 15, 2001. A total of 151 questionnaires were collected and they were analysed by use of SPSS/WIN 7.5. The results of the survey are as follows. 1. In general, visiting nurses were burdened with heavy workloads. On average, a visiting nurse covered 5 ‘dong's(the smallest administrative unit), 564 households, and 1223 persons. They spent almost a quarter of their working hours moving from home to home and recording the charts after home visiting. They took 30-60 minutes to provide their services when visiting homes. As for the frequency of home visiting, they were following the instructions recommended by the government. However, their services were still wasteful, not skill-oriented, in that they spent more time assessing ‘subjects’ rather than providing their ‘services’ for them. 2. As for the degree of service performance, visiting nurses scored average 2.94 and 2.28 on the four-point scale in the area of health and welfare respectively. The Pearson coefficient between the two variables was high(.56). According as the health services increased, the welfare services increased as well, which showed that the service referral between the two areas should be essential. 3. ‘The necessity of cooperation with social welfare staff’ scored average 4.49, and ‘the degree of cooperation with social welfare staff’ scored average 3.16 on the five-point scale; There was a statistically significant difference (average 1.33) between the two variables. Such a big difference between perception and practice results from the lack of political support that connects the two service areas comprehensively. Therefore it is recommendable to establish a so-called ‘Visiting Nursing Center’ in the ‘dong’ office in order to provide integrated services of health and welfare at once in cooperation with social welfare staff. That's the way to meet the public needs directly and it's more efficient as well in terms of cost-saving.

This study attempts to provide the fundamental materials for space program in terms of planning a senior welfare center by means of examining and analyzing the present conditions of spatial arrangement of each section in senior welfare center for the aged. The results of the study are as in the following. 1) The demand for new service programs corresponding to the improved quality of the elderly and various social desires is relatively on the increase. Each program in senior welfare center for the elderly should be connected in an organic manner and the organization of space should be provided. 2) The section of counseling, the first step when using a welfare center, should be located in the entrance of the building and it has to be closely connected with other section. 3) The section of medical rehabilitation is a place mostly for the elderly in their frail physical condition; therefore, it is effective to use horizontal line. 4) It is important for the room for volunteers in the section for domiciliary welfare to be arranged flexibly with the office or the room for social education, and it is necessary to consider how easy daytime or short-term care is accessible. 5) The space where dynamic programs are progressed in the section of social education should be distinguished from the section of medical rehabilitation or the room for daytime care and the room for short-term care of the section of domiciliary welfare.
Korean society is experiencing rapid changes which are certain to shape the lives of the older people and their families. So, the purpose of this study was to improve the quality of the elderly welfare service in Korea. Even though the interest about the elderly welfare in Korea is rapidly on the increase, the reality of Korean Society still leaves much to be desired, quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Pay attent to this point, now going to grasp the situation of not the handicapped elder people but the general elder people actual life condition and demand for welfare. So this study focused on the demand of not out-of home service but in-home care service. It was based on the data from by Korea National Statistical Office, having observed 6,139 elderly people. The results were as follows. They hope to get the elderly welfare services about health examination service, nursing survice, supporting service for household. That was, the most of them wanted in-home care service than out-of home care service. To ensure effective care to the elderly, it needed development and settlement of welfare service in face of their daily living. And, even though they recognized that they should cover the elderly life expenses themselves, the rate was hit that indicated their adult children as a parents supporter. This means that we should consider not only to the elder people but also to the family which contained the old people as the elderly welfare service. As a remedy, we can find the cooperation between elder welfare service at the social welfare organization and counsel, education at the family strengthen center. To improve the quality of the elderly welfare service in Korea, the elderly welfare service should focus not only on the physical and spiritual health maintenance but also active understanding living environment and growing ability to arbitrate between individual and living.
Purpose: To know the existence of tax services, it is seen as a redistribution of income to ensure the implementation of national development and social welfare carried out by the state to the community and determine the effect of the quality of tax services, tax audits and tax collection against either simultaneously or partially against the tax ratio in the area of the Primary Tax Service Office of West Makassar. Research Design Data and Methodology: The tax revenue rate is too low based on the Revenue Statistics in Asian and Pacific report, released by the OECD at the end of July 2017. Tax revenue growth is also difficult to increase because of typical inelastic tax revenues. Consequently, tax growth cannot exceed GDP growth. The government boosted the tax ratio by minimizing tax payment irregularities and optimizing tax data utilization as well as distribution income for national social welfare. Transforming all sectors in the real economy so that it is affordable to tax, diversification of taxation is directed towards new sources of economic growth. The data analysis method used is multiple linear regression. Results: The results showed that the quality of tax services and tax audits were dominant in determining tax ratios, whereas Tax collection offers a significant but lower value.Conclusion: The existence of tax services, it is seen as a redistribution of income to ensure the implementation of national development and social welfare carried out by the state to the community.Quality and service in taxation services to create and maintain trust and cooperation relationships between tax officials and taxpayers.
