  • Degree distribution can provide basic information for structural characteristics and internal relationship in social network. It is a critical procedure for social network topology analysis. In this paper, based on the mean-field theory, we study a special type of social network with exponential distribution of time intervals. First of all, in order to improve the accuracy of analysis, we propose a spreading coefficient algorithm based on intimate relationship, which determines the number of the joined members through the intimacy among members. Then, simulation show that the degree distribution of follows the power-law distribution and has small-world characteristics. Finally, we compare the performance of our algorithm with the existing algorithms, and find that our algorithm improves the accuracy of degree distribution as well as reducing the time complexity significantly, which can complete 29.04% higher precision and 40.94% lower implementation time.

  • This study investigated university students' perspectives on good class and instructional practices through social network analysis. The subjects were 321 students in the third and fourth academic years in a Korean university. The subjects completed four open-ended questions, asking about experience of good class, good instructors' teaching practice, and their feelings and attitudes when participating in good class. As social network analysis, KrKwic (Korea Key Words in Context) was used to compute word frequencies and analyze semantic network structures and Ucinet Netdraw to assess centrality in the social network, consisting of degree centrality, closeness centrality, and between centrality. The results are as follows. First, students showed 5 keywords to depict what good class is, including 'understanding', 'example', 'video', 'interest', and 'communication'. Second, the characteristics of teaching methods by professors who practice good class indicate 'assignments', 'questions', 'understanding', 'example', and 'feedback'. Third, the top 5 keywords of students' attitudes as participating in good class are 'active', 'participation', 'focus', 'listening', and 'asking'. Last, keywords depicting desirable class that students most wanted to take next time are 'assignments', 'rewards', 'understanding', 'difficulty', and 'interest'. The findings from this study include the meanings of the semantic network structures of words in the text making up messages. Also this study can provide empirical evidence for educators and educational practitioners in higher education to create effective learning environments.

  • This study examined structured social network types and their relationship to quality on life satisfaction of older adults. Respondents were 418 adults aged 60 or older living alone or as couples. The data was analyzed using K-means cluster analysis. Four networks types were identified: diverse, friend-neighbor focused, family focused, and restricted. Life satisfaction was highest for individuals in the diverse network group and lowest for individuals in the restricted network group. Stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that life satisfaction of the elderly was affected by the diverse network, family focused network, the relationship quality with children, the relationship quality with neighbors, and the relationship quality with relatives. Results suggested that having diverse social network in close proximity is very important in old age and structural network types may have important practical implications for improving the quality of life among the elderly.

  • This paper proposes a public oriented e-Marketplace that induces strategic coalition using database in which detail information about each firm is contained. A public oriented e-Marketplace links each firm through the type of Internet business model and constructs a trading community. We introduce a design methodology of public oriented e-Marketplace called as social network analysis. Social network analysis helps each firm's network easily visualized and completely modeled. Additionally, this paper tries to analyze the relationship among the level of competition, potential of strategic coalition, and financial performance. We demonstrate the firm to easily accept various strategic coalitions can make higher financial performance under the more competitive condition. This implies that strategic coalition through public oriented e-Marketplace provide the each firm with various opportunities.

  • The study explores social enterprises' social goals by analysing their mission so as to better understand their perceptions of social problems. Based on the analysis, the study reconsiders the mission of the current era of the Korean social economy. Accordingly, self-disclosed social enterprise data were collected and analyzed using LDA topic modeling and social network analysis methods. Seven mission topics were extracted, and the network centering on key keywords was derived. The analysis results largely divided the social purposes of social enterprises into three categories: 'social purpose that social enterprises want to achieve', 'activities to achieve the purpose', and 'operation method to achieve the purpose'. The study is meaningful in that it emphasizes the importance of establishing and implementing social goals from the point of view of the social economy as well as realizing the economic value of social enterprises by analyzing their mission.

  • In this research, I conducted a semantic network analysis centering on media articles on purchasing, revitalizing, and utilizing the former Busan branch of Hansung Bank, a modern architectural heritage. We sought the most efficient analysis elements for the analysis of the social arguments about preservation and utilization embedded in media articles. For this reason, Degree Centrality measures how many connections the word described in the media article has, and Betweenness Centrality measures the influence that controls the flow of information through correlation I examined. In addition, keyword that express the theme well examined the aggregation structure in each sub-network. In this research, in theoretical terms, it makes sense in that the social discussion embedded in the article of the mass media is grasped empirically through semantic network analysis of words. Methodological aspect is best when it includes nouns and adjectives and the distance between words is more than four words in the analysis of the cohesive structure of the semantic network to determine whether the influence of social discussions is best assessed through the connection between words to media articles.

  • Purpose This study aims to categorize the types of health, analyze the effects among health types based on network analysis find the most important type of health, and explain whether the results between health types vary depending on demographic characteristics. Design/methodology/approach This study investigated individual physical, clinical, mental, and social health(social capital and social support) levels through a survey of 100 people. Network analysis was applied to the survey data to confirm the degree centrality of nodes. Furthemore, we investigated the differences in core nodes according to gender and age groups. Findings According to the analysis result, social support was the most important health type in the entire group. Furthermore, the importance of health type was different depending on the characteristics of the groups. In the case of men, clinical health was the most important health type, and social support was analyzed to be the most important for women. In the case of young people, clinical health was the most important health type, and mental health was the most important health type in the middle-aged.

  • As a way to gather diverse information required for everyday living, the importance of social networks has been growing. Social network services have been spreading rapidly because of diffusion of the Internet, evolution of social network sites, and recognition of the importance of social networks. Recently, the social network service has been evolved based on a new paradigm, Web 2.0, pursuing participation and openness. Following the adoption of Web 2.0 technologies, the social network service allows users to make and maintain new relationships in a more convenient way. Users of the social network service tend to reveal their personal information, and share their ideas and content with other people; in the process they become aware of their existence, feel satisfaction with life and exert influence to others as a member of the society. This study uses higher order factor analysis to analyze factors that affect the intention of using the social network service. A research model was developed with second-order factors including perceived social presence, perceived gratification and perceived social influence. First-order factors are grouped by technical, individual and social factors. Smart PLS 2.0 was used to conduct empirical analysis. The analysis results supported the validity of the research model.

  • For the social network of n nodes, one might be interested in finding k nodes to disseminate the information as quickly as possible or to identify key nodes of high "local centrality". I propose two algorithms for determining k "local centers" of the network and work on a real case.
