The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of depression, sleep, and self-esteem on a dementia preventive behavior in rural elderly people. The participants were 235 elderly people aged 60 or older who lived in J-Gun, J-Do. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 25.0 program. There were significant differences in the dementia preventive behavior according to religion, the level of education, a cohabitation type, an economic level, and dementia education experience. Participants' dementia preventive behavior was positively correlated with self-esteem (r=.52, p<.001) and sleep (r=.31, p<.001). However, it was negatively correlated with depression (r=-.57, p<.001). Factors affecting the dementia preventive behavior were depression, self-esteem, and religion. The explanatory power of variables was 37%. To increase a dementia prevention behavior in rural elderly people, it is necessary to develop dementia prevention programs to reduce depression and improve self-esteem and to create social conditions to facilitate various social participations such as a religious activity.
Objectives: This study investigated beliefs of Koreans on the usefulness of various resources they use to alleviate depressive symptoms and to identify factors affecting the beliefs on different approaches to depressive symptoms. Methods: A household survey was conducted on a stratified sample of adults of age 18~74 (N=1,607) in 2009. The participants were asked to read a case vignette of depression and to provide their opinion about usefulness of 39 types of resources as ways of addressing the symptoms. Factors affecting opinions on usefulness of various resources were examined with logistic regression. Results: The three approaches identified via factor analysis were believed to be useful in the order of 'psychological/relational/activity-oriented', 'lifestyle/cultural', and 'physical/medical' approaches. The logistic regression analyses revealed that correct recognition of symptoms increased the likelihood of positive opinion about psychological and physical approaches, and so did having current symptoms about physical and popular approaches. Past help-seeking experience increased the likelihood of negative opinion about physical approach, however. Conclusions: Strategies to adopt various types of resources need to be developed, including rigorous use of psychosocial methods, mechanisms to control service quality, and the integration of diverse resources into the current community mental health services.

The purpose of this study was to integrate the theory of planned behavior and social ecological model to explain exercise intention through multilateral approaches. 50s male 252 exercise participants were used in the final data analysis. Reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, structural equation modeling were used to analyze. The results indicated that physical environment has a positive influence on the subjective norm. Attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control have positive influence on intention. Lastly, Social environment has a positive influence on the attitude. According to the results of this study, it will be able to contribute to integration of theoretical model for various health behavior and also help to develop intervention for physical activity promotion.
Purpose: This study intended to grasp real context of Cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related factors of Korean blue-collar workers, especially CVD-related knowledge, perception, beliefs, benefits and barriers of behaviors according to the health belief model. Methods: We interviewed twenty two workers working in two small-sized companies and performed two series of focus group interviews. Data were analyzed by deductive content analysis approach based on Elo & $Kyng{\ddot{a}}s$. Results: Excepting participants who have CVD risk factors, most participants had lower level of CVD risk perception. The level of CVD knowledge was low but there was difference by gender. CVD-related beliefs were 'fatal disease', 'caused by lifestyle' and 'difficult to prevent by themselves'. The risk reduction behaviors were motivated by current or family history of hypertension. But there were barriers to interfere practice of preventive behaviors such as poor quality of food provided by cafeteria in the workplace, frequent overtime, victim mentality as one of vulnerable social group, housework and financial burden, lack of facilities for rest and physical activity in the workplace. Conclusion: To develop intervention for reducing CVD risks in Korean blue-collar workers, we need to focus on improving CVD knowledge and perception and modifying work-related environments such as low quality of food and lack of facilities for rest and physical activity in the workplace.

Background and objective: Agro-healing is crucial with urban farming in the domestic. It is beyond the conventional agriculture. This study was carried out to assess the 2010s researches on domestic agro-healing and predict the future direction of agro-healing development. Methods: Among the articles published from 2010 to 2018, we collected some articles by searching keywords including agro-healing, garden activity, gardening, horticultural activity, horticultural program, horticultural therapy, plant effect, plant environment, plant growing program, plant impact, social gardening, urban agriculture and vegetable garden activity, selected 83 articles that were evaluated in advance, and analyzed by frequency analysis, t-test, and one-way ANOVA with SPSS 20.0. Results: Agro-healing journal articles were published the most in 2010, and have declined since then. In the classification according to the academic society, most of the journal articles were published by the Society for People, Plants, and Environment. The main targets of domestic agro-healing related to activities and programs were preschoolers, children and adolescents, accounting for 52.4% of the total. By the characteristics of the subjects, agro-healing programs and studies were conducted with special participants who needed special care compared to the general participants. The dependent variables were classified into six areas according to their attributes and the share of psychological and emotional areas was highest (42.6%) among them. In terms of the composition of the program, the share of those with 9-12 sessions was highest (36.7%) and the share of those with more than 20 participants was also highest (39.8%). Conclusion: It is recommended to operate agro-healing programs or industries focusing on the socially disadvantaged including those who have special needs or the underprivileged, but in order to create income for farms and expand the demand for agro-healing, it will be necessary to spread the perception that anyone without any physical or emotional issue can be the targets of and experience agro-healing. To meet the different needs of targets of agro-healing, it will be necessary to conduct objective and practical studies on broader areas and in the process the healing functions of agriculture and the strength of agro-healing needs to be further highlighted.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate a group activity, reciprocal peer tutoring (RPT), in order to investigate advantages and challenges of RPT in promoting cooperative and collaborative learning environment for EFL University reading instruction. The participants in this study were 89 students taking an English reading course at a Korean university. RPT is a learning strategy whereby learners help each other and learn by teaching. This program was supported by a Vygotskyan perspective which assumes that learners gain mastery and develop cognitive skills through social interaction with more proficient others and their environment. This study relied particularly on participant perceptions through questionnaire survey and Anonymous Online class Report of the course. This study showed various advantages for tutors such as learning through teaching and becoming more autonomous and responsible for their own learning. Non-threatening and highly motivating learning atmosphere are parts of benefits for tutees. Other advantages for tutees included improved level of academic self-confidence, and motivation. This study also revealed several drawbacks associated with the problem of inaccuracy in students' production and students' demand for more direct teacher role. (182 words).
