  • A virtual platform models a processor core and the peripheral devices constituting the SoC in software. Major companies utilize a variety of platforms for product development with optimal SW+SoC integrated system architecture design and IP reuse based Top-Down design flow using a virtual platform. In this paper, we propose a virtual platform based on OpenRISC, an open source RISC based core. The proposed virtual platform supports high speed emulation of approximately 20 MIPS using DBT (Dynamic Binary Translation).

  • This paper proposes a SOC platform which is eligible for education and application SOC design. The platform, fully synthesizable and reconfigurable, includes the OpenRISC embedded processor, some basic peripherals such as GPIO, UART, debug interlace, VGA controller and WISHBONE interconnect. The platform uses a set of development environment such as compiler, assembler, debugger and RTOS that is built for HW/SW system debugging and software development. Designed SOC, IPs and Testbenches are described in the Verilog HDL and verified using commercial logic simulator, GNU SW development tool kits and the FPGA. Finally, a multimedia SOC derived from the SOC platform is implemented to ASIC using the Magnachip cell library based on 0.18um 1-poly 6-metal technology.

  • This paper presents and analyzes a novel technique that makes it possible to improve the performance of low-end embedded systems through SoC(System-on-a-Chip) platform supporting dynamic cooperation between hardware and software modules. Traditional embedded systems with limited hardware resources have the poor capability of carrying out multi-tasking jobs including complex calculations. The proposed SoC platform, which provides dynamic cooperation between hardware and software modules, decomposes a single specific system into tasks for given system requirements. Additionally, we also propose a technique for efficient communication and synchronization between hardware and software tasks in cooperation with each other. Several experiments are conducted to illustrate the application and efficiency of the proposed SoC platform. They show that the proposed SoC platform outperforms the traditional embedded system, where only software tasks run, as the number of memory access is increased and the system become more complex.

  • In this paper, AXI4 BUS was implemented using Verilator and C/C++ for verification of SoC platform H/W IP which is based on AXI4 BUS. In this paper we proposed a method to verify the AXI4 BUS based SoC platform H / W IP by implemented AXI4 BUS on PC using Verilator and C/C++. The result shows AXI4 BUS based H/W IP that is verified by implemented AXI4 BUS is to perform the same behavior on FPGA environment.

  • SoC which deploys software modules as well as hardware IPs on a single chip is a major revolution taking place in the implementation of a system design, and high-level synthesis is an important process of SoC design methodology. Recently, SPARK parallelizing high-level synthesis software tool has been developed. It takes a behavioral ANSI-C code as an input, schedules it using code motion and various code transformations, and then finally generates synthesizable RTL VHDL code. Although SPARK employs various loop transformation algorithms, the synthesis results generated by SPARK are not acceptable for basic signal and image processing algorithms with nested loop. In this paper we propose a SoC platform with an application-specific PLD targeting local operations which are feature of many loop algorithms used in signal and image processing, and demonstrate design process which maps behavioral specification with nested loops written in a high-level language (ANSI-C) onto 2D systolic array. Finally the derived systolic array is implemented on the proposed application-specific PLD of SoC platform.

  • SoC(systnn-on-a-chip) requires high bandwidth system bus for performing multiple functions. Performance of the system is affected by bandwidth of the system bus. In this paper, for efficient management of the bus resource on a SoC platform, we present a latency model of the shared bus organized by multiple layers. Using the latency model, we can analyze latencies of the shared bus on a SoC. Moreover we evaluate a throughput of the bus and compare with needed throughput of the SoC platform including IPs such as MPEG or USB 2.0. And we can use the results as a criteria to find out an optimal bus architecture for the specific SoC design. For verifying accuracy of the proposed model, we compared the latencies with the simulation result from MaxSim tools. As the result of simulation, the accuracy of the IS model for a single layer and multiple layer are over $96\%\;and\;85\%$ respectively.

  • Recently smart devices which combine traditional electronic devices and personal computers, such as smart phones and smart TV, have caught people's eyes from all over the world. A multi-media SoC platform which embeds not only a calculating processor but also an operating system could provide an user-customized environment of several types of communication methods to PC or Internet. In this paper, we describe a multi-functioning SoC platform with video, audio and other communicating protocols based on Core-A processor and AMBA buses. To verify the designed multi-media SoC platform, JPEG decoding and ADPCM encoding/decoding algorithms are applied on it and the final decoding results are confirmed by video monitors and audio speakers.
