  • After studing on the type of Bi(肥) and Su(痩) of Body in 'Yellow Emperior's Nei-Ching', I reached the following conclusions; 1. The specific charactor of bi(肥) and su(痩) were explained in table 1. 2. The specific charactor of gi(脂), ko(膏) and youk(肉) were explaned in table 2. 3. Obserbing the type of bi(肥) and su(痩) by the view of YinYang(陰陽), bi(肥) belongs to Yin(陰) and su(痩) belongs to Yang(陽). Also the each of bi(肥) and su(痩) could obserbed by the view of YinYang(陰陽). The type of su(痩) easily becomes to yanghea(陽虛) because chi(氣) easely becomes to exhaust also easely becomes to yinhea(陰虛) because blood(血) easely becomes to exhaust. So the outer of body is cold, the inner of body is hot. The type of bi(肥) easely causes YinYang(陰陽) to exceed because blood(血) easely becomes to black and turbid(血黑以濁), chi(氣) easely becomes to rough and slow(氣澁以遲). So the outer of body is hot, the iner of body is cold 4. Obserbing the type of bi(肥) and su(痩) by the view of viscera, in view of upper and lower(上下觀點) su(痩) is yang(陽) so heart and lung belongs to su(痩) bi(肥) is yin(陰) so liver and kidney belongs In bi(肥). in view of inner and outer(內外觀點) su(痩) is inner(內) so heart 3I1d liver belongs In su(痩) bi(肥) is outer(外) so lung and kidney belongs to bi(肥). 5. Obserbing the type of bi(肥) and su(痩) by the view of body constitution(體質), partially body constitution was divided into gi(脂), ko(膏) and youk(肉), entirely there was OhtaeinLon(五態人論) and four constitutional medicine(四象醫學) I thing that taeyangin(太陽人) and soyangin(少陽人) belong to su(痩), taeyinin(太陰人) and soyinin(少陰人) belong to bi(肥).

  • The following results are obtained through study on the Three Eum and Three Yang. 1. Up to nowadays, many people confuse the Great Yang, the lesser Eum, the Great Eum, and the lesser Yang of the Sasang with the Great Yang, the lesser Yang, the Sunlight, the Great Eum, the lesser Eum, and the absolute Eum of the Three Eum and Three Yang becuase they are expressed with the same letters. But the former is the second specialization of the Eum and Yang, and the latter is the transformation of the six climate, so they cannot be the same thing, and there is no connection between them. 2. Three Eum and Three Yang is the outer expression of the six climate, which is coldness, heat, dryness, humidity, wind, and the fire, and it is the conception of the formation of objects which possess SI-JUNG-JONG & BON-JUNG-MAL, and it represents one term of the status of transformation in which the life and the Yang Qi are born, grown, united, and completed. 3. The Three Eum and Three Yang is not only applyed to the outer expression of the six climate, but also to the twelve channels which correspond with the twelve viscera, six differentiation of the disease of the cold, various illness, and the form of pulse. 4. The combination of the Three Eum and Three Yang and the twelve channels is divided into the channel of Sahwa and the channel of Jonghwa, and it also has important relationship with the physiology of the viscera. 5. The division of the six channels of disease of the cold suggested by Junggyung originates from the heat theory in Neagyung, but the six channels in the heat theory are of pathological conception, so the six channels of Junggyung includes the disease of the channels and the viscera. 6. The difference of the Pyo, Bon, Jung Qi of the Three Eum and Three Yang makes the syndrom of the disease diverse so it can be used in the diagnosis and the treatment of disease, and further studies are necessary on this part.

  • The applicability of Diabetes Mellitus(DM) in Oriental Medicine might be placed under the category in Wasting-thirst(消渴, WT). However, because of WT having so various concepts, classification, and names in Oriental Medicine, this resulted in confusion in applying WT treatment to DM. WT occurs mainly due to dryness-heat(燥熱) which by depleting 'Fluid and Humor'(津液) makes symptoms of thirst(口渴) swift digestion with rapid hungering(消穀善饑) frequent urination(小便頻數) according to the "Internal Classic"(內經). WT was also called Sodan(消癉), Bidan(脾癉), or Sojoong(消中) in the "Internal Classic", which was caused by not only the disorder of 'five viscera' (五臟), but also the failure of 'three yin and three yang'(三陰三陽). However, the doctors of those days had a tendency to manage WT (including DM) with herbal drugs of dryness-heat or with drugs that recover the pancreas and the kidney, that have a tendency to appreciate that WT is the disease of 'five viscera'(五臟). Accoding to the "Internal Classic"(內經) and "Jinguiyaolue"(金匱要略), WT was appreciated that WT is also due to the disorder of Meridian including 'three yin and three yang'(三陰三陽) theory. Disorder of 'yang brightness'(陽明) or 'reverting yin'(厥陰) would cause Wasting-thirst(消渴), so the 'three yin and three yang'(三陰三陽) theory should be considered in WT treatments. Furthermore, 'yang brightness'(陽明) and 'reverting yin'(厥陰) all belong to 'the door'(闔) in the bolt-door-pivot(關闔樞) theory, and the mean of 'the door'(闔) is the function of storage, so we could understood WT is the wasting disease due to the disorder of 'the door'(闔) system in Meridian. WT should also be understood by the point of the bolt-door-pivot(關闔樞) theory in addition to the 'three yin and three yang'(三陰三陽) theory.

  • Objectives : The objective of this study was to examine the biopsychological traits of each Sasang type from a personality theory perspective. Methods : A review of different theories of personality is provided, in addition to review of ten previous studies on the psychological characteristics of the Sasang types. Results : 1. Similarities and differences were found between Sasang typology and Western theories of personality. 2. The prevalence of Sasang type was 28:36:36 (So-Yang:Tae-Eum:So-Eum), and the majority of the study sample were males in their twenties. 3. The Yin-Yang and Large-Small axes of Sasang typology were comparable to Eysenck's Extraversion and Neuroticism dimension. So-Yang type showed high extraversion and low neuroticism, and So-Eum type exhibited low extraversion and high neuroticism. Tae-Eum type was extravert and neurotic, and highly distinctive in such physical traits as Body Mass Index and blood triglyceride concentration. 4. We make recommendations for future studies on Sasang typology within a biopsychosocial and cognitive framework. Conclusions : This study demonstrates the possibility of Sasang typology being explicable from a cross-cultural biopsychosocial theory.

  • Oriental Diagnosis System(ODS) is an artificial intelligence program that utilize entered diagnosis knowledge, determine patient's disease and decide right medicine. The purpose of this study is to find a correlation between pattern Identification in Korean medicine and each sasang types(So-Yang, So-Eum and Tae-Eum) by analyzing ODS diagnosis result. Eventually our study secure availability of using ODS program at clinical training or developing diagnosis program. Subject of this study is 32 students participating in Sasang medical practice(12 subjects were So-Yang, 7 subjects were So-Eum, and 13 subjects were Tae-Eum). We analyze subject's clinical practice result reports by using ODS program and obtained result about pattern Identification. We used SPSS statistics 23 in analyzing the differences of the scores of Eight Principle Pattern Identification, Qi-Blood Pattern Identification, Bing-xie Pattern Identification, and Visceral Pattern Identification in each Sasang types (So-Yang, So-Eum, Tae-Eum). In the case of Heat-moisture, Tae-Eum showed higher score than So-Eum, but So-Yang showed no difference from the other two Sasang types(p<0.05). And in the case of Food-accumulation, Tae-Eum and So-Yang showed significantly higher score than So-Eum(p<0.05). It is hard to generalize the result because subject of this study was not enough. However, we explained correlation between pattern Identification in korean medicine and each sasang types based on quantifiable and objective evidence system. Therefore use of ODS program in student clinical practice training help to understand the relationship and correlation between different pattern Identification and will help standardization of clinical practice education.
