  • As building becomes larger, taller and more complex due to industrialization and urbanization, it tends to be vulnerable to fire and establishment of effective measures for fire safety is demanded. Especially the fact that the smoke hinders evacuation and fire-fighting activities as well as becomes the major cause of life casualty emphasizes the importance of smoke control system. To design and operate the smoke control system success folly, it is necessary to analyze and predict precisely the thermoflow induced by fire in building. The unsteady three-dimensional analysis of thermoflow induced by fire with diverse variables such as building structure, fire conditions and smoke control facilities can be effectively carried out with numerical method In this study, using the FDS(Fire Dynamics Simulation) program that spreads widely as the analysis tool for thermoflow of fire, the analysis of thermoflow in partition of building induced by fire and comparison with the experimental results for assessment of numerical analysis are presented.

  • The conventional fire detection devices are operated after a processed fire phase, which are sensing only a high density of somke level or high temperature heat. They are not so precision to detect a fire in the early phase to protect the facility form the fire. We need to develope a new high precision smoke detection system to keep expensive industrial facilities most reliably form fire. A new optical precision smoke detection system was developed. It monitors very low level density of smoke particles in the air. It is operated continously through many years without a stop or any malfunction. The developed precision smoke detection system will be installed in important industrial facilities, such as power plants, underground common tunnel, main control rooms, computer rooms etc.

화재시 제연 및 피난을 위한 기능성 차압 조절장치 개발에 관한 연구 (The Development of a Functional Pressure Controller in Smoke Management Systems for the Fire Safety of Buildings)

  • The smoke and toxic gases generated from the building fires are proved to cause human death. Therefore, the necessity and significance of smoke control have been emphasized, and lots of studies for developing improved smoke management system have been carried out. In this study, the experiments were conducted to evaluated a function and performance in newly developed smoke management system using mechanical pressurization. As a result of this experiment, the differential pressure was 40Pa${\sim}$60Pa and the air velocity through the door was 0.7m/s between safety zone and fire zone. The functional pressure control equipment which could make proper pressure and maintain differential pressure between safety zone and fire zone was developed. And it will give a lot of helps to evacuation activity for peoples in building and fire fighting.

  • 본 연구에서는 국내 화재 안전 기준 중 제연설비의 성능기준에 의해 지하 공간 건축물이 준공된 후 임의의 지점에서 화재가 발생했을 경우를 모델링하여 연기 확산 현상을 분석하고 제연 설비의 작동에 의한 재실자의 피난시간 연장과의 적정성을 검토하는 것이 목적이다. 본 연구의 선행연구에서는 가연물의 종류와 발열량을 추정하였으며 추정 값의 검토를 위하여 임의의 단일지하상가를 모델링하여 검증하였다. 그리고 지하상가의 제연설비가 작동될 경우와 작동되지 않을 경우에 대한 수치해석 결과를 비교하였으며 재실자의 피난시간을 확보하는 관점에서 화재 안전 기준에 대한 적정성을 검토하였다.

  • These days the buildings are getting higher, bigger, and in a deep. According to that, it was the Large-Scale casuality by smoke from Daeyeongak Hotel fire in 1971 to Uijeongbu apartment fire in 2015, and the law of smoke control has consistently changed. but the analysis for improving the law isn't working. Therefore on this study, it conducts the analysis of historical comparative about smoke control and it will present the basic data for improving the law of smoke control and in-depth analysis.

  • The heat and smoke which generated by subway under fire is one of the most harmful factor in air tighten underground station. To prevent this, Trackway Exhaust System(TES) can be used. The heat released from the train running in the tunnel raises the temperature at the platform and the trackway, and thus proper ventilation system is required for comfortable underground environment. When the fire is occurred, TES is operated as smoke exhaust mode from normal ventilation mode. In the present study, the subway station which is one of the line number 9 in Seoul subway is modeled, and fired situation is simulated with several ventilation mode of ventilation system in trackway. For this simulation whole station is modeled. Non steady state 3D simulation which considered train under fire is entering to the station is performed. Temperature and smoke distribution in platform and trackway are compared. To represent heat by fire, heat flux was given to the fired carriage, also to describe smoke by fire, concentration of CO is represented. As the result of present study, temperature and smoke distribution is different as the method of ventilation in trackway and platform is changed. In over side of trackway, the fan must be operated as exhaust mode for efficient elimination of heat and smoke, and supply mode of fan operation in under side shows better distribution of heat and smoke. The ventilation system which is changed from ventilation mode to exhaust mode can be applied to control heat and smoke under fire.

  • This study is intended to evaluate and optimize the characteristics of smoke spreading and the appropriateness of evacuation time extended by operation of smoke control system during fire within the underground space of the building structured in compliance with the smoke control system performance criteria from the local fire safety standard, which has been currently applied to the buildings in Korea. Using the heat release per unit weight of the combustibles, a numerical analysis both in case of smoke control system in operation and the system not in operation was carried out at the several different shopping malls. From the viewpoint of securing the evacuation time, the results were compared in an attempt to assess the appropriateness of the fire safety criteria.

차압제연설비의 성능과 관련된 시스템 및 환경 변수와의 상관성 분석 (The Analysis of Correlation Major System Factors with the Performance of Smoke Control Systems Using Pressure Differentials)

  • 압력차를 이용한 연기제어기법은 피난계단 또는 대피공간으로 연기의 유입을 방지하기 위한 방법 중 가장 많이 알려져 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 국내에서는 기술에 대한 이해부족에 기인한 많은 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 그러한 관점에서 차압제연설비의 성능에 영향을 미치는 주요인자인 풍도면적, 급기댐퍼의 개구면적, 부속실 개방에 따른 영향, 연돌효과 그리고 급기주입구의 위치가 시스템의 성능에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하였다. 중요한 결론으로는 풍도의 단면적이 작을수록 마찰손실이 증가하여 적절한 차압을 유지할 수 없었으며, 특히 연돌효과는 저층부의 압력차를 작게 만들어 차압제연시스템의 성능을 약화시키는 가장 큰 요인으로 확인되었다.

횡류식 선택대배기환기에서의 배연특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the effective fire and smoke control in transverse oversized exhaust ventilation)

  • 도로터널의 환기 시스템은 차량 화재시 안전한 대피환경을 조성하는데 중요한 역할을 하며 종류환기방식과 횡류환기방식으로 대별된다. 본 연구에서는 횡류환기방식에서 대배기구방식에 대한 터널내 풍속, 배연풍량, 개방되는 배기구의 위치에 따른 유동가시화에 대하여 선행 연구와 FDS 시뮬레이션에 의한 결과를 비교하여 연기의 이동특성을 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 연기발생량(Vc=0)에 따른 배연풍량을 제어하여 연기를 피난허용범위 250 m 이내로 제한할 수 있었으며, 터널풍속이 1.75 m/s 와 2.5 m/s일 때 배연풍량은 각각 $173m^3/s$, $236m^3/s$ 을 초과하여야만 연기이동 거리를 250 m로 제한할 수 있었으며 화재지점 가까이에 있는 2개의 배기구를 동시에 개방하는 경우가 배연의 효과가 현저하게 높게 나타났다.

Elevator Pressurization in Tall Buildings

  • During a building fire, smoke can flow through elevator shafts threatening life on floors remote from the fire. Many buildings have pressurized elevators intended to prevent such smoke flow. The computer program, CONTAM, can be used to analyze the performance of pressurization smoke control systems. The design of pressurized elevators can be challenging for the following reasons: (1) often the building envelope is not capable of effectively handling the large airflow resulting from elevator pressurization, (2) open elevator doors on the ground floor tend to increase the flow from the elevator shaft at the ground floor, and (3) open exterior doors on the ground floor can cause excessive pressure differences across the elevator shaft at the ground floor. To meet these challenges, the following systems have been developed: (1) exterior vent (EV) system, (2) floor exhaust (FE) system, and ground floor lobby (GFL) system.
