The analytical solutions for the free vibration of cross-ply laminated composite cyllindrical shell with axial stiffeners(stringers) are presented usint the energy method. The stiffeners are taken to be smeared over the surface of shell with the smeared stffener theory. The effect of the parameters such as the stacking sequences, the shell thichness, the shell radius-to stringer depth ratio, the stringer depth-to width ratio, the shell length-to radius ratio are studied. By comparison with the previously published experimental results and the analytical results for the stiffened isotropic cylindrical shell and the unstiffened orthotropic composite laminated cylindrical shell, it is shown that natural frequencies can be determined with adequate accuracy.
A program is developed to analyze and design the frequency and rigidity of the corrugated plates with various corrugation shapes (the considered corrugation shapes are triangular and trapezoidal) and 36 kinds of boundary conditions using smeared theory. The system is consisted of input, solution and output routines, and its routine is made up pull-down menu type and run in Window basis using Visual Basic Language. The input routine helps the design engineers to make the input data user-friendly. The solution routine uses the homemade solver. In the output routine, automatic designs can be done using AutoCAD and Intent Tool package by interfacing the input data.

The paper presents quasi-static numerical simulations of the behaviour of short reinforced concrete beams without shear reinforcement under mixed shear-tension failure using the FEM and four various constitutive continuum models for concrete. First, an isotropic elasto-plastic model with a Drucker-Prager criterion defined in compression and with a Rankine criterion defined in tension was used. Next, an anisotropic smeared crack and isotropic damage model were applied. Finally, an elasto-plastic-damage model was used. To ensure mesh-independent FE results, to describe strain localization in concrete and to capture a deterministic size effect, all models were enhanced in a softening regime by a characteristic length of micro-structure by means of a non-local theory. Bond-slip between concrete and reinforcement was considered. The numerical results were directly compared with the corresponding laboratory tests performed by Walraven and Lehwalter (1994). The advantages and disadvantages of enhanced models to model the reinforced concrete behaviour were outlined.
A theory is proposed to predict the response of the load-deformation relationship of the reinforced concrete structures under the service state after cracking. The crack direction and concrete strains through the loading history before failure can be estimated by this theory based on the rotating crack model, which considers equilibrium, compatibility conditions, and average stress-strain relationship. The proposed crack direction and deformation show good agreement with test results under service state. The behavior of a variety of concrete structures, such as shear walls, deep beams and the web of box girders, can be predicted by this proposed theory under service state.
The capability of a multi-directional fixed smeared crack constitutive model to simulate the flexural/punching failure modes of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) laminar structures is discussed. The constitutive model is implemented in a computer program based on the finite element method, where the FRC laminar structures were simulated according to the Reissner-Mindlin shell theory. The shell is discretized into layers for the simulation of the membrane, bending and out-of-plane shear nonlinear behavior. A stress-strain softening diagram is proposed to reproduce, after crack initiation, the evolution of the normal crack component. The in-plane shear crack component is obtained using the concept of shear retention factor, defined by a crack-strain dependent law. To capture the punching failure mode, a softening diagram is proposed to simulate the decrease of the out-of-plane shear stress components with the increase of the corresponding shear strain components, after crack initiation. With this relatively simple approach, accurate predictions of the behavior of FRC structures failing in bending and in shear can be obtained. To assess the predictive performance of the model, a punching experimental test of a module of a façade panel fabricated with steel fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete is numerically simulated. The influence of some parameters defining the softening diagrams is discussed.
The reinforced concrete slab is one of main structure members in the construction industry sector. However, most of researches regarding to RC slabs have been focused on two-dimensional Mindlin-type plate element on the basis of laminated plate theory since three-dimensional solid element has a lot of difficulties in finite element formulation and costs in CPU time. In reality, the RC slabs are subjected to dynamic loads like a heavy traffic vehicle load, and thus should insure the safety from the static load as well as dynamic load. Once we can estimate the dynamic behaviour of RC slabs exactly, it will be very helpful for design of it. In this study, the 20-node solid element has been used to analyze the dynamic characteristics of RC slabs with clamped edges. The elasto-visco plastic model for material non-linearity and the smeared crack model have been adopted in the finite element formulation. The applicability of the proposed finite element has been tested for dynamic behaviour of RC slabs with respect to characteristics of concrete materials in terms of cracking stress, crushing strain, fracture energy and Poisson's ratio. The effect on dynamic behaviour is dependent on not crushing strain but cracking stress, fracture energy and Poisson's ratio. In addition to this, it is shown the damping phenomenon of RC slabs has been identified from the numerical results by using Rayleigh damping.

In this study, the semi-analytical finite strip method is adopted to examine the free vibration of cylindrical shells made up of functionally graded material. The properties of functionally graded shells are assumed to be temperature-dependent and vary continuously in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction of ceramic and metal. The material properties of the shells and stiffeners are assumed to be continuously graded in the thickness direction. Theoretical formulations based on the smeared stiffeners technique and the classical shell theory with first-order shear deformation theory which accounts for through thickness shear flexibility are employed. The finite strip method is applied to five different shell theories, namely, Donnell, Reissner, Sanders, Novozhilov, and Teng. The approximate procedure is compared favorably with three-dimensional finite elements. Finally, a detailed numerical study is carried out to bring out the effects of power-law index of the functional graded material, stiffeners, and geometry of the shells on the difference between various shell theories. Finally, the importance of choosing the shell theory in simulating the functionally graded cylindrical shells is addressed.
In the finite element analysis of reinforced concrete structures, discrete representation of the steel reinforcing bars is considered advantageous over smeared representation because of the more realistic modelling of their bond-slip behaviour. However, there is up to now limited research on how to simulate the dowel action of discrete reinforcing bars, which is an important component of shear transfer in cracked concrete structures. Herein, a numerical model for the dowel action of discrete reinforcing bars is developed. It features derivation of the dowel stiffness based on the beam-on-elastic-foundation theory and direct assemblage of the dowel stiffness matrix into the stiffness matrices of adjoining concrete elements. The dowel action model is incorporated in a nonlinear finite element program based on secant stiffness formulation and application to deep beams tested by others demonstrates that the incorporation of dowel action can improve the accuracy of the finite element analysis.
In this paper, an analytical method for the Post-buckling response of cylindrical shells with spiral stiffeners surrounded by an elastic medium subjected to external pressure is presented. The proposed model is based on two parameters elastic foundation Winkler and Pasternak. The material properties of the shell and stiffeners are assumed to be continuously graded in the thickness direction. According to the Von Karman nonlinear equations and the classical plate theory of shells, strain-displacement relations are obtained. The smeared stiffeners technique and Galerkin method is used to solve the nonlinear problem. To valid the formulations, comparisons are made with the available solutions for nonlinear static buckling of stiffened homogeneous and un-stiffened FGM cylindrical shells. The obtained results show the elastic foundation Winkler on the response of buckling is more effective than the elastic foundation Pasternak. Also the ceramic shells buckling strength higher than the metal shells and minimum critical buckling load is occurred, when both of the stiffeners have angle of thirty degrees.
