The Correlation Between Smartphone Addiction and Sensory Processing Feature, Self-Efficacy in College Students (대학생의 스마트폰 중독과 감각처리특성 및 자기효능감의 상관관계)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between smartphone addiction, sensory processing features and self-efficacy in college students. Methods : From June to August in 2015, a hundred eighty three healthy college students were completed the questionnaire for smartphone addiction (S-scale), sensory processing feature (Adolescent/ Adult Sensory Profile), and self-efficacy (Self-Efficacy Scale) and correlation analyses were applied. Results : There were significant differences on sensory registration and sensory sensitivity in sensory processing features between the addiction group and the non-addiction group. Significant correlations were found between smartphone addiction and sensory seeking, and smartphone addiction and self-efficacy. Conclusion : This study showed smartphone addiction had relationships with high sensory seeking and low self-efficacy. Thus, more studies and interventions focused on preventing smartphone addiction are required for college students.

ITs Relationship with Smartphone Addiction, Parenting Attitudes and Resilience on Adolescents -A Survey of Middle School Students in G city- (청소년의 스마트폰 중독, 부모양육태도 및 적응유연성과의 관계 -G시 중학생을 대상으로-)

  • This study examined the relationships among smartphone addiction, parenting attitudes and resilience to identify the relevant factors affecting smartphone addiction. Data were collected from a total of 220 middle school students responding to questionnaires in G city and analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson coefficient correlation, and multiple regression. The results showed that the parenting attitude and resilience were negatively correlated with smartphone addiction. The significant factors affecting smartphone addiction were gender, the time of smartphone usage, parenting attitudes, and resilience. These variables explained 21.9% of smartphone addiction and the highest factor was the parenting attitudes, followed by gender, time of smartphone usage, and resilience. This study indicated that it is important to develop a program to ensure adolescents positively perceive parenting attitudes and increase their resilience to decrease the incidence of smartphone addiction.

Associations between smartphone addiction scale and sociopsychological aspects in medical school students (의과대학생의 스마트폰 중독 척도와 사회심리학적 요인들과의 관계)

  • Background: Smartphone addiction, academic stress and anxiety of university students are increasing gradually; however, few studies have investigated these factors in medical school students. Therefore, this study investigated associations between smartphone addiction scale and sociopsychological aspects in medical school students. Methods: A total of 231 Yeungnam University College of Medicine students were enrolled in this study in March 2017. Gender, school grade, type of residence, and smartphone usage patterns of the students were surveyed. The Korean Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale and each Korean version scale were used to assess sociopsychological aspects such as loneliness, stress and anxiety. Results: There was a direct statistical correlation between loneliness, stress of negative perception, anxiety and smartphone addiction scales. There was also a negative statistical correlation between stress of positive perception and smartphone addiction scales. There was a higher level of anxiety among female students than male students. Additionally, there was a higher level of stress associated with negative perception and anxiety among medical students in the first grade than other students. Moreover there was a higher level of loneliness, stress of negative perception and anxiety among students who live with friends than students who live with their own family. Conclusion: Smartphone addiction scale and sociopsychological aspects significantly correlated. Moreover, the results suggest that female medical students in the first grade who have been separated from their family need more attention and management of loneliness, stress and anxiety to avoid smartphone addiction.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the status using the smartphone targeting millitary lesson students, and self-control and coping investigate the influence on smartphone addiction level. The results were also analyzed were to affect this age of smartphones college hours per day using a smartphone to an hour or more self-important 95.3% in individual daily levels of smartphone addiction to sex differences. Smartphone addiction levels showed a higher female than male students, the higher the self-control and self-control over the smartphone results of analyzing the relationship between addiction smartphone addiction has been analyzed to be lowered. In addition, even between coping and smartphone addiction emerged as significant results. In conclusion, the self-control necessary for use in smartphones and use time period, and this was demonstrated that coping problem-oriented coping strategies are required. Were discussing the implications of the study on the basis of these findings, we discuss the future research challenges and limitations.

Analysis of Elementary Students' Smartphone Addiction Level by Demographic Features (인구통계학적 특성에 따른 초등학생의 스마트폰 중독 수준 분석)

  • Recently, use of smartphones has increased so sharply at all ages that addiction problems have emerged. This study analysed factors, focusing on demographic variables, that impact on smartphone addiction of elementary students. First, differences between distributions of addicted groups and those between distributions of most frequently used smartphone functions per variable are analyzed. As a result, grade and academic achievements yield the biggest differences between distributions of addicted groups and gender, grade, and academic achievements yield differences between distributions of most frequently used smartphone functions. Also, differences between distributions of most frequently used smartphone functions per addicted user group are regarded significant. Furthermore, factors affecting smartphone addiction are analysed through the logistic regression analysis and decision trees, where grade, academic achievements, dual-income parents, and residential areas are found affecting in that order.

  • This study developed the prevention education program of smartphone overuse for adolescents in middle school and testified its outcome. Finally the 4-session prevention education program for smartphone overuse was developed. 1st session was composed of psychoeducation about smartphone overuse and its side effect by quiz question. 2nd session smartphone addiction and brain change, 3rd session motivational enhancement program for smartphone overuse, 4th session cognitive behavioral program for it. The outcome was testified by internet addiction scale, smartphone addiction scale, and school adaptation scale for 2 classes of middle school students(experimental and control class). 2 Main results were as follows; First, the smartphone addiction total score and cyberworld orientation of the students participating in it were statistically significantly reduced. The difficulty of daily living and abstinence symptom due to smartphone overuse of them tended to reduce. Second, internet addiction total and all subscores of them were not changed. Third, class adaptation of them was statistically significantly increased and school adaptation total score and teacher adaptation of them tended to increase. Its meaning, implication and limitation were discussed.

The correlation between Smartphone Addiction and Psychiatric Symptoms in College Students (일 대학생들의 스마트폰 중독과 정신건강과의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to identify the relationship between smartphone addiction and psychiatric symptoms and the difference in severity of psychiatric symptoms by the degree of smart phone addiction in order to raise awareness of mental health problem. related to smartphone addiction in college students. Methods: Two hundreds and thirteen university student survey data was collected from December 5th to 9th of 2011 in South Korea using smartphone Addiction Scale, and the Symptom Checklist-90-Revision that was translated with korean for the psychiatric symptoms. Results: Respondents were classified as upper addicted (25.3%) and lower addicted group (28.1%). Addicted scores were positively correlated with psychiatric symptom scores. Obsessive-compulsive score was the most highly correlated with addiction scores. There were significant different in psychiatric symptom scores by the groups. Upper groups was 1.76 times higher than lower in total psychiatric scores. The addicted group used smartphone significantly longer per day and more satisfied with than lower addicted group. Conclusion: Although the smartphone was first introduced not so long ago, the addiction rate is exponentially increasing in students. The results proved that there is an inevitable correlation between the smartphone addiction and the severity of psychiatric symptoms.

The Stress, Self-Efficacy, And Self-Control of University Students Impact on Smartphone Addiction (대학생의 스트레스, 자기효능감, 자기통제력이 스마트폰 중독에 미치는 영향)

  • This study attempted to verify the structural model of the effects of stress, self-efficacy, and self-control on smartphone addiction in University students. The subjects of this study were 440 University students in G and P city. Results, First the most influential variables on smartphone addiction were self-control, followed by stress, and two variables explained explanation about smartphone addiction in 34%. Second, self-efficacy had a positive effect on self-control and stress had a negative effect. Both variables had an indirect effect on smartphone addiction through self-control. In groups less than 4 hours and above, there was a partial regulation effect because of differences between groups in the smartphone addiction pathway coefficients of stress and self-efficacy. Therefore, in order to reduce smartphone addiction, it is important to find ways to reduce stress and increase self-control and self-efficacy, and necessary to develop various programs and tailor educational interventions for each individual situation.

Correlation between stress and smartphone addiction in healthcare related university students (보건계열 대학생의 스트레스와 스마트폰 중독 관련성 분석)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the correlation between stress and smartphone addiction in some university students. Methods: The subjects were 220 health major students in D area. The study was conducted for 2 weeks, in June, 2016. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, awareness toward stress, stress-coping pattern, and smartphone addiction. Data was analyzed through SPSS 18.0 program. Results: In the analysis of stress levels according to general characteristics, female group showed higher experience compared to male group (high group 46.10, subgroup 44.38) (p<0.05). Male group and higher stress group showed higher experience in problem solving, social support, and emotional stress coping (p>0.05). Stress and stress coping (r=0.322), stress and smartphone addiction (r=0.299) showed positive correlation. The significant factors of smartphone addiction were average daily using time (${\beta}=0.477$, p<0.001), study stress (${\beta}=0.177$, p<0.05), social stress (${\beta}=0.323$, p<0.01), problem solving (${\beta}=-0.320$, p<0.001), social support (${\beta}=0.064$, p<0.05), and emotional stress coping (${\beta}=0.264$, p<0.001). These factors explained 30.8% of the variance in smartphone addiction. Conclusions: The results from this study indicated that stress had a negative impact on smartphone addictions in subjects. It is necessary to provide smartphone addiction management for stress management.

Influence of smartphone addiction on personal relationship in dental hygiene students (치위생과 학생들의 스마트폰 중독이 대인관계에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of smart phone addiction on personal relationship in dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 475 dental hygiene students in Gyeonggido and Chungcheongdo from May 9 to June 10, 2016. Except incomplete questionnaire, data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 program. The instruments consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, smartphone addiction, and personal relationship. Results: The percentage of smart phone was 23.0% in a risk group and 77.0% in a general group. The level of smartphone had a statistically significant difference with personal relationship(p<0.05). Smartphone addiction resulted in bad personal relationship. Conclusions: Smartphone addiction problem interrupts personal relationship. It is very important to reduce smart phone addiction through a variety of solution.
