  • Recent years, a smartphone has been playing a role of searching, booking, and decision-makings in the tourism industry through tourists' user experiences and engagements. This study investigated the tourists' behavior toward smartphone usage regarding Chinese visitors who were ranked in Korea inbound tourism. This research model formulated two types of usage which identified explorlative use and exploitive use and the antecedent relationships of user empowerment including user competence, user impact, usage meaning, user trust. We analyzed SmartPLS2.0 for the hypotheses and found that first, user competence has a positive influence both of exploitative use and explorative use, second, user impact has a positive influence on exploitative use, but has not influenced on explorative use, third, usage meaning has not influence on exploitive use, but has a postitive influence on explorative use, and finally user trust has influence on both of exploitive and explorative use. Based on the results we found, we suggested Chinese tourists' smartphone usages' behaviors and theoretical and practical implications.

  • The introduction of smartphone caused the most revolutionary change in the domestic telecommunications market after the digital revolution. However, due to the saturation of the local market, it is expected to post negative growth in 2016 and the sales of national communication carriers is in stasis. Thus, the smartphone industry is starting to shift its marketing efforts to secure the silver generation who still has room for increase in the rate of smartphone usage. As the silver generation has physical limitations and differences in needs, the marketing strategy based on the smartphone utilization is not appropriate. This study suggests the new silver generation, who has high income level and similar characteristics to the younger generation, as the new customer segment for smartphone. We analyze the effects of the major variables of UTAUT on smartphone use, as well as examine how these relationships differ between the new silver and the net generation. We verified the hypotheses using a survey with 309 smartphone users. The research findings supported the hypotheses regarding the effects of performance expectancy, effort expectancy and facilitating conditions on smartphone use, but did not support the hypothesis on the effect of social influence. The result of the group comparisons showed that both generation have similar characteristics on innovativeness and cognitive absorption, but the moderating effect of age on performance expectancy, effort expectancy and use is stronger in conjunction with the new silver generation. The study results are expected to be used in establishing a marketing strategy for the new silver generation.

  • This paper is about an analysis of the result of the survey which is how the use of smartphone affects the creative personality, focused on 4th and 6th grade in Elementary school, by smartphone addiction self-diagnosis and creative personality test. As a result of the analysis, 6th graders were influenced by their possession of smartphone and the degree of one's smartphone addiction on their creative personality. However, the usage period of smartphone did not turn out to affect their creative personality. In addition, none of the factors above, related to students' smartphone usage, influenced the creative personality of 4th graders. Particularly, there was a negative correlation between the level of students' smartphone addiction and the creative personality and it was found that whether the students own a smartphone or not played a crucial role in creative personality rather than the usage period of smartphone. Therefore, students should be properly educated how to use smartphone appropriately and to prevent them from smartphone addiction in order to improve creative personality which is one of the core competences in 21st century.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine changes in the neck flexion angle according to posture while using a smartphone and the duration of smartphone usage. METHODS: The subjects in this study were 16 healthy young students in their 20s. The subjects wore a cervical range of motion instrument. They were instructed to use a smartphone while standing, sitting on a chair, and sitting on the floor. In all postures, they could use the smartphone and use their arms freely while keeping their back connected to the wall or the back of the chair. When sitting on the floor, they assumed a cross-legged position. The neck flexion angle was measured at zero, three, six, and nine minutes for each posture. RESULTS: Neck flexion is affected by the posture while using a smartphone (p<.05). Neck flexion in the standing position is larger than that in the sitting on the floor position. Neck flexion was affected by smartphone usage duration (p<.05). In general, as usage time increases, the neck flexion angle increases as well. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that using smartphone in the standing position and for a short period of time is a method to reduce the neck flexion angle.

  • Smartphone use has become a part of everyday life, not only for adolescents but also for elderly and older people. Thus, this study explored the effect of demographic variables, the amount of smartphone usage, type of smartphone use and psychosocial variables on smartphone dependence of the elder group. We analyzed the data of 5627 (50s and 60s) of the Internet overdependence survey data of the Korea Information Society Agency in 2016. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression analysis, More frequency of smartphone use of weekday and weekend, and usage time of smartphone of weekday were related to greater smartphone dependence. More smartphone use for information seeking and games were associated with greater smartphone dependence. And, as loneliness and anxiety increased, smartphone dependence increased, while smartphone dependence decreased, as social capital increased. Through this study, it is necessary to understand characteristics related to smartphone dependence of elder and older group, and to use this knowledge to solve their smartphone dependence. Future studies also need to identify the causal relationship between predictors of smartphone dependence in elderly and older people.

  • PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the effects of using a smartphone in the sitting position on the pelvic posture and the low back pressure pain threshold (PPT). METHODS: Thirty participants (15 women and 15 men) were recruited for this study. The participants were asked to sit in a normal sitting position without using a smartphone, followed by sitting while watching a video using a smartphone. The pelvic posture was measured using the back range of motion II (BROM II) device and a palpation meter. We measured PPT using the digital pressure algometer. RESULTS: Pelvic posterior tilting was significantly greater when sitting while using a smartphone relative to sitting without using a smartphone (p < .05). There was no significant difference in the height of the iliac crest when sitting while using a smartphone compared to sitting without using a smartphone (p > .05). The PPTs of L1, L3, and L5 were significantly lower when sitting while using a smartphone relative to sitting without using a smartphone (p < .05). CONCLUSION: Based on these results, it can be concluded that frequent smartphone use while sitting may potentially increase the risk of developing low back problems.
