  • This paper presents an approach to Mongolian car plate recognition using artificial neural network. Our proposed method consists of two steps: detection and recognition. In detection step, we implement Flood fill algorithm. In recognition step we proceed to segment the plate for each Cyrillic character, and use an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) machine - learning algorithm to recognize the character. We have learned the theory of ANN and implemented it without using any library. A total of 150 vehicles images obtained from community entrance gates have been tested. The recognition algorithm shows an accuracy rate of 89.75%.

  • Smart railway system, which has been actively studied in recent years, is entering the intelligent stage beyond the automation stage based on ICT (Information & Communication Technology) such as communication technology and information technology. ICT technology used in smart railways is generally supported by various information protection technologies as it is vulnerable to information infringement. As a means of high-speed/mass transportation, it is essential to devise an information protection plan for ICT technology that forms the basis for smartening the railway system. Therefore, this paper presents the necessity of step-by-step information protection that measures for smart railway communication by examining potential risk factors of smart railway communication base and considering information protection factors that can respond to them.

  • Recently, the terms of the 4th Industrial Revolution and the Smart Factory are often heard through news and media. But most of the companies that are parties are not interested. Because there is no specific guidance on how to build Smart Factory and information about Smart Factory. The built of the Smart Factory should be carried out in accordance with the size of the company considering the purpose of the introduction. In the existing study, they analyzed successful cases of building Smart Factory in Korea As a result, in the case of large-size firms, it is an effective strategy that expanding from a model factory to whole factory for successful Smart Factory building. In addition, in the case of medium and small-size firms, it is an effective strategy that upgrading from low-level step to high-level step for successful Smart Factory building. In this study, selecting medium and small-size firms, and bottleneck section and processes requiring improvement are identified through 3D virtual process design, and then install sensors. Finally, after analyzing the data collected through the sensor, we will improve the process and build Smart Factory with improved productivity.

  • Purpose: Smart Safety Living Lab is a Living Lab facility, constructed and operated by KITECH in Korea, to support the user experience(UX) evaluation, planning and certification of smart safety products and services. The purpose of this study is to develop a UX evaluation methodology that accommodates the characteristics of the Living Lab and smart safety products and services for a systematic and efficient UX evaluation in the Smart Safety Living Lab. Methods: A generic model of UX evaluation was first derived based on a review of related literature. Then, the generic model is revised to accommodate the characteristics of the Smart Safety Living Lab and smart safety products and services, resulting in the UX Evaluation Methodology for Smart Safety Living Lab (SSLL-UXEM). Results: The developed SSLL-UXEM consists of a structured process for UX evaluation, a guideline for conducting each step of the process, and a set of forms for recording the major evaluation results in each step. Conclusion: SSLL-UXEM can help to enhance the efficiency of the UX evaluation process and the consistency of the UX evaluation results. SSLL-UXEM is also expected to serve as a basis for UX evaluation in various living lab environments in the future.

  • In this study, in order to efficiently perform smart city river management, we developed an integrated platform that connects flood analysis models on the web and provides information by converting input and output data into a database. In the integrated platform, a watershed analysis model, a river flow analysis model and an urban runoff analysis model were applied to perform flood analysis in smart city. This platform is able to obtain more reliable results by step-by-step approach to urban runoff that may occur in smart city through the applied model. In addition, since all analysis processes such as data collection, input data generation and result storage are performed on the web, anyone in an environment that can access the web without special equipment or tools can perform analysis and view results. Through this, it is expected that smart city managers can efficiently manage urban runoff and nearby rivers, and can also be used as educational materials for urban outflows.

  • Recently taping robot with smart recognition function have been studied in the coil manufacturing field. Due to the difficulty of 3D surface processing from the complicated working environment, it is not easy to accomplish smart tape attachment motion with non-contact sensor. To solve these problems the applicable surface recognition algorithm and a flexible sensing device has been recommended. In this research, the fusion method between 1D displacement and 3D laser scanner is applied for robust tape attachment about cold rolled coil. With these sensors we develop a two-step exploration and the smart algorithm for the awareness of non-aligned coil's information. In the proposed robot system for tape attachment, the problem is reduced to coil's radius searching with laser displacement sensor at first, and then position and orientation detection with 3D laser scanner. To get the movement at the robot's base frame, the hand-eye compensation between robot's end effector and sensing device should be also carried out respectively. In this paper, we examine the auto-coordinate transformation method in the calibration step for the real environment usage. From the experimental results, it was shown that the taping motion of robot had a robust under the non-aligned cold rolled coil.

  • This study aims to propose a smart city governance logic model that can accommodate more diverse information service systems by mixing hub-and-spoke and blockchain technologies as a data management model. Specifically, the research focuses on deriving the logic of an operating system that can work across smart city planning based on the two data governance technologies. The first step of the logic is the generation and collection of information, which is first divided into information that requires information protection and information that can be shared with the public, and the information that requires privacy is blockchainized, and the shared information is integrated and aggregated in a data hub. The next step is the processing and use of the information, which can actively use the blockchain technology, but for the information that can be shared other than the protected information, the governance logic is built in parallel with the hub-and-spoke type. Next is the logic of the distribution stage, where the key is to establish a service contact point between service providers and beneficiaries. Also, This study proposes the establishment of a one-to-one data exchange relationship between information providers, information consumers, and information processors. Finally, in order to expand and promote citizen participation opportunities through a reasonable compensation system in the operation of smart cities, we developed virtual currency as a local currency and designed an open operation logic of local virtual currency that can operate in the compensation dimension of information.

  • Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) has been widely used for structural identification and damage detection. However, conventional EKF approaches require that external excitations are measured. Also, in the conventional EKF, unknown structural parameters are included as an augmented vector in forming the extended state vector. Hence the sizes of extended state vector and state equation are quite large, which suffers from not only large computational effort but also convergence problem for the identification of a large number of unknown parameters. Moreover, such approaches are not suitable for intelligent structural damage detection due to the limited computational power and storage capacities of smart sensors. In this paper, a two-stage and two-step algorithm is proposed for the identification of structural damage as well as unknown external excitations. In stage-one, structural state vector and unknown structural parameters are recursively estimated in a two-step Kalman estimator approach. Then, the unknown external excitations are estimated sequentially by least-squares estimation in stage-two. Therefore, the number of unknown variables to be estimated in each step is reduced and the identification of structural system and unknown excitation are conducted sequentially, which simplify the identification problem and reduces computational efforts significantly. Both numerical simulation examples and lab experimental tests are used to validate the proposed algorithm for the identification of structural damage as well as unknown excitations for structural health monitoring.
