  • Purpose - Most of the amendments to the law on the improvement of the distribution structure of mobile communication terminal equipment, the fully self-sufficient system of terminals, and the separated disclosure system on the terminals are aimed at securing transparency of the distribution structure by eliminating or reducing handset subsidies. This study investigates what items are important for the purchase of mobile phones in various and rapidly changing mobile phone markets from the consumer's point of view and tries to make a strategic suggestion for future mobile distribution strategies. Research design, data, and methodology - The procedure of this study takes place in four steps. In step 1, only the SF type respondents selected for this study were extracted through MBTI analysis. In step 2, they were divided into three hierarchies for the AHP analysis and each element was arranged. In step 3, the AHP analysis was converted to a Fuzzy-AHP number using the trigonometric centroid method. This was to eliminate the ambiguity of the response by converting into a fuzzy number even if data consistency was maintained with CI value below 0.1. In step 4, the number of converted 2-layer and 3-layer was combined to derive the priority when the final handset is selected. Results - First, the highest importance among the four items in the second tier was the terminal function item, followed by brand, price, and design item. Second, in the third tier, the highest importance was level of after-sales service, followed by device price, processing speed, ease of use, usefulness, and rate system. Third, the arithmetic average of the determinant of the fuzzy function showed that processing speed, ease of use and usefulness in the function item, level of after-sales service in the brand item, and device price in the price item were the five most important factors among 16 choice factors. Conclusions - First, there will be a change in the consumption patterns of consumers who have compared distributors and dealers to purchase handsets with more subsidies. Second, it is highly likely that people will purchase new handsets only when they need to change their devices because they can not receive subsidies by switching phone brands any more.

  • As the mobile computers such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) or Smart Phone has been widespread in our daily life, the demand of an extensive data input will gradually be increased. Consequently, many alternative soft keyboards have been proposed to satisfy this requirement. However none of them can provide an absolute solutions for that, the segregated guideline for keyboard arrangement and usage still cause much confusion to the user. Therefore, an integrated guideline is seriously required. In order to come up with the integrated guideline for Korean Soft keyboard GUI, the questionnaire and the experimental test compared with five soft keyboards were conducted in this study. As a result this paper presents five guidelines for improving an input speed of soft keyboard on the mobile computing; following familiarity for effective screen use, using a single key rather than grouping key, considering position of prediction word, considering prompt feedback, finally, considering optimized keyboard size.

  • In contemporary modern society, people are constantly exposed to many kinds of noise, such as that from machinery, aircraft, construction sites, or road traffic. Noise is considered one of the most indispensable and influential parts of human life. This study investigates the acoustic characteristics of noise transfer from external sources to the human ear. For this study, we measured and analyzed various types of noise environments, installed monitoring speakers in a semi-anechoic room, and conducted intentional noise-filled experiments. In this environment, the size of the sounds generated by use of a portable device was also measured and the SNR (signal to noise ratio) calculated to study the influence of the noise. As sound is transmitted to the ear and the human body, it affects not only auditory damage but also other parts of the body. In this paper, we propose a proper SNR for noise emitted by portable IT equipment to prevent hearing loss when IT equipment is used.

  • In this paper, a method of using Software Defined Radio (SDR) is proposed for improving the accuracy of identifying two kinds of signals as Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) signal and Bluetooth signal at the same frequency band of 2.4 GHz based on the time-domain signal characteristic. An SDR device was set up for collecting transmitting signals from Wi-Fi access points (Wi-Fi) and mobile phones (Bluetooth). Different characteristics between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals were extracted from the measured result. The SDR device is programmed with a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth detection algorithm and a collision detection algorithm to detect and verify the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals based on collected IQ data. These methods are necessary for some applications like wireless communication optimization, Wi-Fi fingerprint localization, which helps to avoid interference and collision between two kinds of signals.

  • The growth of mobile technology particularly smartphone applications such as ticketing, access control, and making payments are on the increase. Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC)-based systems have also become widely available in the market offering various convenient services by bringing smartphones in proximity to ECC-enabled objects. When a system user attempts to establish a connection, the AIK sends hashes to a server that then verifies the values. ECC can be used with various operating systems in conjunction with other technologies such as biometric verification systems, smart cards, anti-virus programs, and firewalls. The use of Elliptic-curve cryptography ensures efficient verification and signing of security status verification reports which allows the system to take advantage of Trusted Computing Technologies. This paper proposes a device payment method based on ECC and Shuffling based on distributed key exchange. Our study focuses on the secure and efficient implementation of ECC in payment device. This novel approach is well secure against intruders and will prevent the unauthorized extraction of information from communication. It converts plaintext into ASCII value that leads to the point of curve, then after, it performs shuffling to encrypt and decrypt the data to generate secret shared key used by both sender and receiver.

  • Due to recent development in mobile devices, the mobile device utilization and many related applications have been increasing. Most of initial applications on mobile devices just showed simple information, but now they processes huge data. However, smart devices have certain limitations in processing massive data. Especially, if the size of data increases, the speed of data processing adversely decreases, so the performance of programs also decreases. If hardware specification of the mobile devices is not enough to handle it, response time will be drastically delayed. To overcome these drawbacks, most of application running on mobile devices communicate with their servers to manage data. XML is a proper language for data communication to send and receive data between servers and mobile devices, because it defines rules of document's format and it is a textual data format and small-sized language. However, mobile devices have limitation such as memory, CPU and wireless network to process huge data and XML also takes a lot of time to communicate with servers and devices and handle data, so it could be overhead in service time. Binary XML is an alternative of performance improvement in data processing, which has XML's benefits and minimizes the XML size by binary coding. However, most of binaryXML which are used on applications don't fit on mobile applications. In this paper, we surveyed many kinds of binaryXML, compared merits and demerits to find a binaryXML for mobile applications. We propose how to use binary XML and implemented an electronic attendance system using binary XML to overcome the limitation of XML and to reduce the load of data communications between servers and devices.
