  • This study analyzed passenger travel patterns especially for the transfer from metro to bus by using transit smart card data. We classified three types of land use such as residential, business, and shopping area where metro stations are located. The results show that more number of transfers was observed at residential area compared to that of shopping and business area. Also, more number of transfers from metro to arterial bus was observed than that of transfers to local bus. Further, the high number of transfers to arterial bus was observed at business and shopping area. This means that the transfer to bus at metro stations varies by land use. The egress walk distance from metro station was found to be approximately 400 meters and the average walk distance of young people was found to be shorter than that of the old.

  • This paper presents a control algorithm for smart actuators that can be used in a 'steer-by-wire' system for next-generation intelligent automobiles. 'Steer-by-wire' is a network-based mechatronic steering system in which mechanical linkages and hydraulics are replaced by electric motors and a digital communication network. The algorithm is designed not only to achieve the capabilities of following the desired steering angles while minimizing the discrepancy between two steering wheels, but also to tolerate an actuator with faults. The proposed algorithm is based on a simple proportional control so that it can be implemented in real-time with a low-cost embedded microcontroller. The effectiveness of the control algorithm is examined using a hardware-in-the-loop simulator consisting of two DC motors and a CAN bus network.

  • The emergence of new technologies and their implementation by different manufacturers of electronic devices are experiencing an ascending trend. Most of the time, these protocols are expected to reach a certain degree of maturity, and electronic equipment manufacturers use simplified communication standards and interfaces that have already reached maturity in terms of their development such as ModBUS, KNX or CAN. This paper proposes an IoT solution of the Smart Home type based on an Analysis and Prediction System. A data acquisition component was implemented and there was defined an algorithm for the analysis and prediction of actions based on the values collected from the data update component and the data logger records.

  • A controller area network (CAN) receiver measures differential voltage on a bus to determine the bus level. Since 3.3V transceivers generate the same differential voltage as 5V transceivers (usually ${\geq}1.5V$), all transceivers on the bus (regardless of supply voltage) can decipher the message. In fact, the other transceivers cannot even determine or show that there is anything different about the differential voltage levels. A new CMOS RC oscillator insensitive supply voltage for clock generation in a CAN transceiver was fabricated and tested to compensate for this drawback in CAN communication. The system consists of a symmetrical circuit for voltage and current switches, two capacitors, two comparators, and an RS flip-flop. The operational principle is similar to a bistable multivibrator but the oscillation frequency can also be controlled via a bias current and reference voltage. The chip test experimental results show that oscillation frequency and power dissipation are 500 kHz and 5.48 mW, respectively at a supply voltage of 3.3 V. The chip, chip area is $0.021mm^2$, is fabricated with $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology from SK hynix.

  • Based on the success model and Expectation Confirmation model of information system, the concept model of mobile bus payment App users' willingness to continue using is constructed by introducing function quality and interface design quality. A total of 264 valid questionnaires are obtained by issuing online questionnaires, and the model is tested by SmartPLS3.0 software The results show that users' perceptions of information quality, system quality and interface design quality will affect users' perceived usefulness and satisfaction through the scene, and then affect users' willingness to continue to use; Perceived functional quality has a significant impact on perceived usefulness, but has no significant impact on satisfaction. Perceived usefulness has a significant impact on user satisfaction.

  • As the result of the rapid development of IT technology, an on-line diagnostic system using the field bus communication network coupled with a smart sensor module will be widely used at the nuclear power plant in the near future. The smart sensor system is very useful for the prompt understanding of abnormal state of the key equipments installed in the nuclear power plant. In this paper, it is assumed that a smart sensor system based on the fieldbus communication network for the surveillance and diagnostics of safety-critical equipments will be installed in the harsh-environment of the nuclear power plant. It means that the key components of fieldbus communication system including microprocessor, FPGA, and ASIC devices, are to be installed in the RPV (reactor pressure vessel) and the RCS (reactor coolant system) area, which is the area of a high dose-rate gamma irradiation fields. Gamma radiation constraints for the DBA (design basis accident) qualification of the RTD sensor installed in the harsh environment of nuclear power plant, are typically on the order of 4 kGy/h. In order to use a field bus communication network as an ad-hoc diagnostics sensor network in the vicinity of the RCS pump area of the nuclear power plant, the robust survivability of IT-based micro-electronic components in such intense gamma-radiation fields therefore should be verified. An intelligent CCD camera system, which are composed of advanced micro-electronics devices based on IT technology, have been gamma irradiated at the dose rate of about 4.2kGy/h during an hour UP to a total dose of 4kGy. The degradation performance of the gamma irradiated CCD camera system is explained.

  • In this study, we provide empirical evidence of whether a spatial correlation among mode choices at the TAZ(Traffic Analysis Zone) level exists based on transit smart card data observed in Seoul, Korea. The results show that the areas with a higher probability that passengers choose to take a bus are clustered and that those regions have fewer metro stations than bus stations. We also found that the spatial correlation turned out to be statistically meaningful and provided an opportunity for the potential use of the spatial correlation in modeling mode choices. A reliable spatial interaction would constitute valuable information for transportation agencies in terms of their route planning and scheduling based on the transit smart card data.

  • Smart card has a small sized micro computer chip. This chip contains processor, RAM, ROM, clock, bus system and crypto-co-processor. Hence it is more expensive, complicated and secure chip compared with RFID tag. The main application area of smart card is e-banking and secure communications. There are two kinds of smart card platforms; open platform and closed one. Java card is the most popular open platform because of its security, platform independency, fast developing cycle. However, the speed of Java card is slower than other ones, hence there have been hot research topics to improve the performance of Java card. In this paper, we propose an efficient transaction buffer management to improve the performance of Java card. The experimental result shows the advantage of our method.

  • Networked embedded systems using the smart device and fieldbus technologies are now found in many industrial fields including process automation and automobiles. However the discrepancy between a node's view of current time and the rest of the system can cause many difficulties in the design and implementation of a networked system. To provide a networked system with a global reference time, the problem of clock synchronization has been intensively studied over the decades. However, many of the existing solutions, which are mainly developed for large scale distributed computer systems, cannot be directly applied to embedded systems. This paper presents a fault-tolerant clock synchronization technique that can be used for a low-cost embedded system using a CAN bus. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated with a set of microcontrollers and DC motor-based actuators.

  • In this paper, we propose useful load flow algorithms called FEDL (fast enhanced decoupled load flow). The proposed load flow method can improve the convergence characteristics particularly when the P-Q coupling becomes significant and the power system operating states deviate from the conditions required for stable convergence of the FDL by reflecting in part the effects of the off-diagonal terms in the Jacobian. In our test with IEEE AEP-30 bus system and RTS-96 73-bus system, it converge even when the fast decoupled load flow (FDL) and its variations keeping load flow matrices constant experience convergence problems. Test results show promising performances of the proposed algorithms in their convergence characteristics both in number of iterations and overall convergence speeds.
