  • Smart shipyard, all of the business of shipyard by using a mobile application, and the rapid spread of smart equipment, the overload of infrastructure due to a variety of mobile services is expected. Because macrocell and femtecell to reduce the overloading of existing infrastructure, additional core network devices have a problem, in this paper, the efficiency of resources than the communication over the existing infrastructure smart shipyard network to improve, to apply the D2D communication technology that can reduce the load on the infrastructure. The proposed routing path plan in accordance with the transfer method and the traffic type of network configuration and D2D equipment navigation and data for applying a smart shipyard. Whether to execute the function to overload traffic in the core network can send to the optimized path was confirmed by using the state transition diagram. Smart shipyard, by applying D2D communication allow efficient traffic handling than conventional communication method.

  • In the smart life era where the majority of economically active population uses mobile devices, smart devices have formed a new service market. In this study, we developed a shipyard quality management application using mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs. For this purpose, the problems were derived through the analysis of the quality management work on shipyard and the considerations were extracted to build a smart work environment by analyzing the case studies of smart work in other industrial fields. Among the shipyard quality management work, functions thought to be highly utilized when converted to a mobile system has been developed as a mobile application. The application was developed by applying an object-oriented component-based development (ooCBD) methodology, and is expected to improve the user experience and the efficiency of quality management operations in shipyard.

  • In a smart shipyard area, it is possible to integrate a variety of ship modules from separate sites into a final ship construction by using mobile applications. In this paper, we proposed the LTE femtocell network configuration which is applicable to sub shipyard, the traffic exchange method with shipyard headquarter and offload method to separate the general traffic. We defined the mode change in a femtocell gateway for supporting offload for general traffic between the main server in shipyard headquarter and sub shipyard, the offload data managements and message definition. We check the transmitted/received message flow in the wireless link, and consider the performance of the proposed method using state the transition diagram. It is expected that our results can improve the productivity within a smart shipyard by mobile communications and LTE femtocell network.

  • This paper implements many-to-many communication between users and develops a multi-functional smart helmet for worker protection and environmental safety in the shipbuilding and shipping industry. First, the communication situation is recorded in the field to perform signal processing for noise that interferes with communication. Then, it deals with the contents of developing smart helmets, data acquisition, algorithms, and simulations. The simulation results analyzed by applying the adaptive algorithm are shown, and their usefulness is confirmed. In conclusion, looking at the optimization process for the convergence factor of the Least Mean Square and Filtered-x Least Mean Square Adaptation Algorithm was possible. It is thought that it has laid the foundation for implementing many-to-many communication, the function of smart helmets that reduces or removes various noises at the shipyard in the future.

  • Smart work has been gaining more popularity recently. Smart work means that employees perform their works anytime and anywhere as utilizing the information and communication technology. It can be divided into four categories; the mobile office, the home office, the work-at-center and the tele-cooperation. Among them, the mobile office based on tablet personal computers(PCs) or smart phones, employees can exchange information with tablet PCs or smart phones via mobile radio communication networks and portable terminals. Smart devices such as tablet PCs and smart phones help to access intranet system for requests, approvals, information search whenever employees need. This mobile office system for real-time HSE managing can contribute to improve the productivity and work efficiency in a shipyard. In this study, the main goal is to design the specialized mobile application for the HSE management system on the shipbuilding industry. The mobile application including 10 functions is designed based on ooCBD(object-oriented Component Based Development) methodology.

  • In shipyard site, a ship is constructed by integrating lots of modules that are made in several sites with different capabilities and specifications. Recently, it needs to make a shipyard to be smart communicating various multimedia information with wired and wireless broadband networks between hierarchical shipyards. In this paper, we propose an additional function of an LTE femtocell local gateway at a remote shipyard, an information exchange method between hierarchical shipyards, and an offload method to separate the general traffic. To reduce traffic of duplicated requests in shipyard, we apply a D2D communication scheme for supporting communication between shipyard equipments without IP service network. Hence, it is expected to increase the productivity of shipyard industry with mobile communications, D2D and broadband Internet technologies.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to implement an IoT-based sensor network for each workplace of a shipyard. Here, at the most common welding workplace in shipyards, the shipbuilding blocks are used as a communication medium to transmit information such as the worker's location, welding progress, and working hour to a server using LoRa and powerline communication. To achieve the data communication, inductive couplers and hybrid modems have been manufactured and installed on wire feeders and pin jigs to establish a sensor network. As a result of field test, the proposed system shows a success rate of data transmission and a rate of successful recognition of worker's location of about 98% or more. In addition, the process management system platform can record and display the work process data generated at the field in real time. The proposed system can be a starting point for enhancing the competitiveness of Korean shipbuilding industry through the establishment of a smart shipyard.

  • The shipbuilding industry is facing the various problems of less demand and oversupply owing to the global economic crisis and the increase in shipbuilding countries. Shipyards of the industry are making effort to strengthen their ability to handle the crisis via a smartwork technology for flexible working environment. In this study, we developed a smartwork system that manages the information in shipbuilding process with mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs. To successfully apply the developed smartwork system to shipyards, we analyzed several best practices and management tasks of the shipbuilding processes. The developed system was designed by CBD approach that is a branch of service-oriented software engineering for reusability and flexibility on the system. As it is designed considering the flexible working environment, it supports to increase their productivity by reducing the time required to carry out tasks and by increasing the mobility required to manage work performance in field of shipyards.

  • In a ship block logistics application, acquisition of locations is required in order to identify location of the ship blocks. A Smart device equipped with a GPS sensor can be used as a mobile client for a ship block logistics application. However the precision of GPS components on a commercial smart device is not high enough. Therefore, using the GPS for localization may produce significant positioning errors in a ship block logistics system. This paper proposes a method to reduce errors in measuring locations using a smart device. Based on the knowledge of how the location information is used in a ship block logistics application, and the predictability of the client's moving line based on geographical layout of a shipyard area, our proposed technique enables a better prediction of the ship blocks location. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed technique can significantly reduce the positional error.
