  • This study analyzed the domestic and foreign cases of the existing smart home service and grasped the needs of the future smart home service in the future of the Internet of Things. As with all smart homes, the effectiveness of future use is important when comparing needs and random services according to user usability and destination patterns. In order to improve the reliability and to promote the development direction, we conducted a questionnaire survey of 110 people in 20 ~ 30 age group. The survey shows that the reliability of the smart home service is low. The low trust factors include: 1. lack of usability; 2. lack of device recognition; 3. lack of specialization services. Since the smart home service is still in the early stage, various smart home services and ecosystem should be constructed according to user's needs.

  • In this paper, we propose an edge cloud platform architecture for implementing smart factory. The edge cloud platform is one of edge computing architecture which is mainly focusing on the efficient computing between IoT devices and central cloud. So far, edge computing has put emphasis on reducing latency, bandwidth and computing cost in areas like smart homes and self-driving cars. On the other hand, in this paper, we suggest not only common functional architecture of edge system but also light weight cloud based architecture to apply to the specialized requirements of smart factory. Cloud based edge architecture has many advantages in terms of scalability and reliability of resources and operation of various independent edge functions compare to typical edge system architecture. To make sure the availability of edge cloud platform in smart factory, we also analyze requirements of smart factory edge. We redefine requirements from a 4M1E(man, machine, material, method, element) perspective which are essentially needed to be digitalized and intelligent for physical operation of smart factory. Based on these requirements, we suggest layered(IoT Gateway, Edge Cloud, Central Cloud) application and data architecture. we also propose edge cloud platform architecture using lightweight container virtualization technology. Finally, we validate its implementation effects with case study. we apply proposed edge cloud architecture to the real manufacturing process and compare to existing equipment engineering system. As a result, we prove that the response performance of the proposed approach was improved by 84 to 92% better than existing method.

  • Due to the rapid development of IoT technology and the increase in home activities after the COVID-19 pandemic, users' demand for smart homes has increased significantly. As the size of the smart home market increases every year and the number of users increases, the importance of personal information protection and various security issues is also growing. It often grants temporary users smart home owner rights and gives them access to the system. However, this can easily allow access to third parties because the authorities granted are not properly managed. In addition, it is necessary to prevent the possibility of secondary damage using personal information collected through smart home devices and sensors. Therefore, in this paper, to prevent indiscriminate access to smart home systems without reducing user convenience, access rights are subdivided and designed according to the functions and types of smart home devices, and a token-based user access control technique using personal devices is proposed.

  • Smart homes integrated with sensors, actuators, wireless networks and context-aware middleware will soon become part of our daily life. This paper describes a context-aware middleware providing an automatic home service based on a user's preference. The context-aware middle-ware utilizes 6 basic data for learning and predicting the user's preference on the multimedia content : the pulse, the body temperature, the facial expression, the room temperature, the time, and the location. The six data sets construct the context model and are used by the context manager module. The log manager module maintains history information for multimedia content chosen by the user. The user-pattern learning and pre-dicting module based on a neural network predicts the proper home service for the user. The testing results show that the pattern of an in-dividual's preferences can be effectively evaluated and predicted by adopting the proposed context model.

  • Owing to the increasing number of intelligent homes(or called Smart home), the corresponding cost is much higher. Low voltage circuit breakers are widely used in the intelligent homes to interrupt fault current rapidly and to assure the reliability of the power supply. The distribution of magnetic field induced by arc current in the contact system of molded case circuit breaker(hereafter MCCB) depends on the shape, arrangement, and kinds of material of arc runner. This paper is focused on understanding the interrupting capability, more specifically of the arc runner, based on the shape of the contact system in the current MCCB. The magnetic driving force was calculated by using the flux densities induced by the arc current, which are obtained by three-dimensional finite element method. There is a need to assure that the optimum design required to analyze the electromagnetic forces of the contact system generated by current and the flux density be present. This is paper present our computational analysis on contact system in MCCB.

  • A smart grid networks delivers electricity from suppliers to consumers using digital technology with two-way communications to control appliances at consumers' homes to save energy, reduce cost and increase reliability and transparency. Security is critically important for smart grid networks that are usually used for the electric power network and IT environments that are opened to attacks, such as, eavesdroping, replay attacks of abnormal messages, forgery of the messages to name a few. ZigBee has emerged as a strong contender for smart grid networks. ZigBee is used for low data rate and low power wireless network applications. To deploy smart grid networks, the collected information requires protection from an adversary over the network in many cases. The security mechanism should be provided for collecting the information over the network. However, the ZigBee protocol has some security weaknesses. In this paper, these weaknesses are discussed and a method to improve security aspect of the ZigBee protocol is presented along with a comparison of the message complexity of the proposed security protocol with that of the current ZigBee protocol.
