  • This paper proposes a small-scale rehabilitation system that allows stroke patients to perform daily rehabilitation training in a virtual home. Stroke patients have limited activities of daily living due to paralysis, and there are many rehabilitation exercises for them to reproduce activities that take place in the house, such as turning lights on and off, door opening and closing, gas valve locking. In this paper, we have implemented a virtual home with the above mentioned daily rehabilitation training elements, by using virtual reality technology. We use Leap Motion, a hand motion recognition device, for rehabilitation of hands and fingers. It is expected that stroke patients can rehabilitate small muscles without having to visit the clinic with uncomfortable body, and will be able to get interesting rehabilitation training by avoiding monotony of existing rehabilitation tools.

  • The cruise industry is one of the world's fastest growing device industry which is structural construction coasts are expensive. Cruise out-fittings are thirty times compare with general large vessels. According to the characteristics of materials or equipments, most equipments are imported from europe. At present domestic shipbuilding industries and minor enterprises have a hard times therefore enhancing technology for the cruise industry could be infused vitality on the industries. If domestic small and midium industries have high technology for the cruise ship, domestic small and midium industries can have global competitiveness compare with european equipment suppliers which has small-scale and high technology. Therefore on this study, cruise ship's new equipment development and a study for the performance assessment and classification type approval certificate was carried out.

  • Miro propulsion device is a literally very small propulsion system The reason why such a small propulsion system is required is that micro satellites are considered as substitutions for conventional satellites to reduce cost; the fabrication of micro satellites enables us to produce mass production Microrockets have relatively high values of thrust/weight ratio due to the cube law; weight is proportional to volume and thrust is proportional to area. Accordingly, downsizing makes the ratio of thrust/weight ratio high However, conventionally ignorable facts are not negligible any more in small scale systems. for chemical micro rockets, downsizing causes lots of heat loss as surface to volume ratio increases, which results in the destruction of radical ions. For thrusters using plasma, the generation of strong magnetic field for plasma is very difficult. Also, in the aspect of flow dynamics, the effects of drag and viscosity are important parameters in low Re flows. When these problems are solved, micro propulsion systems can be commercialized and result in spin-off effects in many fields.

  • This paper presents a vibrotactile space mouse which use pin-type vibrotactile display modules and a gyroscope chip. This mouse is a new interface device which is not only an input device as an ordinary space mouse but also a tactile output device. It consists of a space mouse which use gyroscope chip and vibrotactile display modules which have been developed in our own laboratory. Lately, by development of vibrotactile display modules which have small size and consume low power, vibrotactile displays are available in small sized embedded systems such as wireless mouses or mobile devices. Also, development of new sensors like miniature size gyroscope by MEMS technology enables manufacturing of a small space mouse which can be used in the air not in a plane. The vibrotactile space mouse proposed in this paper recognizes motion of a hand using the gyroscope chip and transmits the data to PC through Bluetooth. PC application receives the data and moves pointer. Also, 2 by 3 arrays of pin-type vibrotactile actuators are mounted on the front side of the mouse where fingers of a user's hand contact, and those actuators could be used to represent various information such as gray-scale of an image or Braille patterns for visually impared persons.

  • Currently, there is widespread adoption of silicon-based technologies for the implementation of radio frequency (RF) integrated passive devices (IPDs) because of their low-cost, small footprint and high performance. Also, the need for high speed data transmission and reception coupled with the ever increasing demand for mobility in consumer devices has generated a great interest in low cost devices with smaller form-factors. The UWB BPF makes use of lumped IPD technology on a silicon substrate CSMP (Chip Scale Module Package). In this paper, this filter shows 2.0 dB insertion loss and 15 dB return loss from 7.0 GHz to 9.0 GHz. To the best of our knowledge, the UWB band-pass-filter developed in this paper has the smallest size ($1.4\;mm{\times}1.2\;mm{\times}0.40\;mm$) while achieving equivalent electrical performance.

  • A simple array of metal-insulator-metal capacitive elements was proposed for a potential application in humidity sensing platforms. We fabricated meso-scale sensors with different sizes(large-size: $2.7{\times}2.7mm^2$ ; mid-size: $1.5{\times}1.5mm^2$ ; small-size: $0.7{\times}0.7mm^2$) and characterized the performance of each design. Polyimide films were utilized as a humidity-sensitive layer. Capacitance changes of the polyimide layer were measured with respect to water absorption. The device showed sensitivity in the full range of relative humidity (RH) with excellent linearity(correlation coefficient > 0.994). This array structure exhibits unique advantages including easy fabrication process, high batch productivity, and high structural compatibility with various substrate materials. It is anticipated that this device structure will be potentially useful in unique applications including mapping spatial humidity variations over a meso-scale area and implementing flexible humidity sensing element arrays.

  • Sensors collect information for Internet of Things (IoT)-based services. However, indoor construction sites have a poor communication environment and many interfering elements that make it difficult to collect sensor information. In this study, a network was constructed between a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)-based IoT device based on a serverless IoT framework and a router. This experimental environment was applied to large- and small-scale indoor construction sites. Experiments were performed to test the communication performance of BLE-based IoT devices and routers at indoor construction sites. An analysis of the received signal strength indication (RSSI) graph patterns collected from the communication between the BLE-based IoT devices and routers for different testbed site situation revealed areas with good communication performance and poor communication performance due to interfering factors. The results confirmed that structural components of the building as well as the materials, equipment, and temporary facilities used in indoor construction interfere with the communication performance. Construction project managers will require improved technical knowledge of IoT, such as optimizing the router placement and matching communication between the router and workers, to improve the communication performance for large-scale indoor construction.

  • Vortex type Fluidic Device(FD) which is installed at the bottom of Safety Injection Tank(SIT) controls the discharge flow rate from the tank. In case of loss of coolant accident the injection water flows into primary system in two steps; initial high flow rate for certain period of time and subsequent low flow rate. By two-step control of the discharge flow rate, FD can ensure the effective use of water in the tank. A small-scale FD has been tested to obtain a required flow characteristics maintaining full pressure and height of prototype, which are the major contributing parameters. Through the testing of many different arrangements of internal geometry of FD, most appropriate one was selected and its performance data was obtained. As characteristics of FD, time dependent Euler number, flow rate and pressure are presented and discussed. Also a method to predict the full size FD is presented.

  • The aim of this study was to interpret the structure and dynamics of a transfer shuttle system as a material supply device for small machine tools. The following conclusions were obtained by performing a structural interpretation of the material supply equipment with respect to workload and the dynamical interpretation of a flexible multibody carriage shuttle. When a 1,000-kg workload was applied to a fork lift, the safety factor was approximately 1.86. To conservatively assess the integrity of the structure, a 1,000-kg workload would be proper. In the case of a deflection of the fork system, the width increased with increasing time. The greatest deflection occurred at 5.5 s, which was the largest increase in the time point of the fork system.
