The spectroscopy over a region from 3 to 17 ${\mu}m$ based on the tuneable diode lasers (TDLAS) is the most powerful technique for in situ studies of the diagnostics of small molecules. The increasing interest in small molecules especially containing carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and fluorine containing ones can be fulfilled by TDLAS at 0.0001 cm-1 resolution, because most of these compounds are infrared active. TDLAS provides a means of determining the absolute concentrations of the ground states of stable and transient molecular species, which can be employed for the time dependent studies in sub micro second scale. Information about gas temperature and population densities can also be derived from TDLAS measurements. Collisional energy transfer between the small molecules can be studied with TDLAS. Also, a variety of free radicals and molecular ions have been detected by TDLAS. Since plasmas with molecular feed gases are used in many applications, there are new applications in industrial field. Recently, the development of quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) offers an attractive new option for TDLAS.
Background: Approaches in disruption of MDM2-p53 interactions have now emerged as an important therapeutic strategy in resurrecting wild type p53 functional status. The present study highlights virtual screening strategies in identification of high affinity small molecule non-peptidic inhibitors. Nutlin3A and RG7112 belonging to compound class of Cis-imidazoline, MI219 of Spiro-oxindole class and Benzodiazepine derived TDP 665759 served as query small molecules for similarity search with a threshold of 95%. The query molecules and the similar molecules corresponding to each query were docked at the transactivation binding cleft of MDM2 protein. Aided by MolDock algorithm, high affinity compound against MDM2 was retrieved. Patch Dock supervised Protein-Protein interactions were established between MDM2 and ligand (query and similar) bound and free states of p53. Compounds with PubCid 68870345, 77819398, 71132874, and 11952782 respectively structurally similar to Nutlin3A, RG7112, Mi219 and TDP 665759 demonstrated higher affinity to MDM2 in comparison to their parent compounds. Evident from the protein-protein interaction studies, all the similar compounds except for 77819398 (similar to RG 7112) showed appreciable inhibitory potential. Of particular relevance, compound 68870345 akin to Nutlin 3A had highest inhibitory potential that respectively showed 1.3, 1.2, 1.16 and 1.26 folds higher inhibitory potential than Nutilin 3A, MI 219, RG 7112 and TDP 1665759. Compound 68870345 was further mapped for structure based pharamacophoric features. In the study, we report Cis-imidazoline derivative compound; Pubcid: 68870345 to have highest inhibitory potential in blocking MDM2-p53 interactions hitherto discovered.

We will report a few methods to improve the efficiency and stability in small molecule based organic solar cells, including the formation of bulk heterojunctions (BHJs) through alternative thermal deposition (ATD), the use of a micro-cavity structure and interface modifications. By ATD which is a simple modification of conventional thermal evaporation, the thicknesses of alternative donor and acceptor layers were precisely controlled down to 0.1 nm, which is critical to form BHJs. The formation of a BHJ in copper(II) phthalocyanine (CuPc) and fullerene (C60) systems was confirmed by AFM, GISAXS and absorption measurements. From analysis of the data, we found that the CuPc|C60 films fabricated by ATD were composed of the nanometer sized disk shaped CuPc nano grains and aggregated C60, which explains the phase separation of CuPc and C60. On the other hand, the co-deposited CuPc:C60 films did not show the existence of separated CuPc nano grains in the CuPc:C60 matrix. The OPV cells fabricated using the ATD method showed significantly enhanced power conversion efficiency compared to the co-deposited OPV cells under a same composition [1]. We will also present by numerical simulation that adoption of microcavity structure in the planar heterojunction can improve the short circuit current in single and tandem OSCs [2]. Interface modifications also allowed us to achieve high efficiency and high stability OSCs.
Pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) have enormous potential in the biomedical sciences because they can grow continuously and differentiate into any kind of cell in the body. However, for future application in regenerative medicine, it is still a challenge to control the differentiation of PSCs without using genetic materials. To control the differentiation of PSCs, small molecules might be the best substitute for genetic materials considering the following advantages: small size, which enables penetration of plasma membrane; easy-to-modify structure; and low chance of genetic recombination in treated cells. Herein, we introduce small molecules that induce the neuroectodermal differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs). The small molecules were identified via ESC-based consecutive screenings of small-molecule libraries composed of 324 natural compounds or 93 selected drugs. The natural compounds discovered in the first screening were used to select 93 structurally similar drugs out of 1,200 approved drugs. In the second screening, among the 93 compounds, we found 4 drugs that induced the neuroectodermal differentiation of ESCs. These drugs were progesteroneor corticoid-derivatives. Our results suggest that small molecules targeting the progesterone receptor or glucocorticoid receptor could be used as chemical tools to induce the differentiation of PSCs into a specific germ lineage.

Development of white light emitting materials has been an interesting area for scientists and scientists have developed many organic, polymer and inorganic materials for white electroluminescent devices. Among them, single component small molecules gave best results in terms of efficiency, simplicity of device fabrication, and CIE values. Therefore, this review covers detailed discussion about syntheses of small compounds used in white organic light emitting devices until 2007.
Two diastereoisomers of cyclo(Pro-Tyr) have been synthesized simultaneously. The crystal structures and conformations of both cyclo($\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr) and a racemic mixture of cyclo($\small{D}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr) and cyclo($\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{D}$-Tyr), abbreviated as rac-cyclo($\small{D}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr/$\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{D}$-Tyr), have been determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study at low temperature. The crystals of rac-cyclo($\small{D}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr/$\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{D}$-Tyr) belong to orthorhombic space group $Pna2_1$ with a = 10.755 (1), b = 12.699 (1), c = 9.600 (1) ${\AA}$ and Z = 4. The tyrosine side chain is folded towards the diketopiperazine (DKP) ring. The DKP ring adopts a twist boat conformation with pseudo symmetry $C_{2v}$. The pyrrolidine ring has an envelope conformation with the N5, C4, C7 and C8 atoms in a plane. The crystal of rac-cyclo($\small{D}$-Pro-$\small{L}$-Tyr/$\small{L}$-Pro-$\small{D}$-Tyr) is stabilized by hydrogen bonds between amide N2-H2 and carbonyl oxygen O2 in the neighbor. The hydroxyl group of tyrosine residue is also hydrogen bonded to the oxygen of the carbonyl group of the DKP ring in the next molecule. The spectroscopic properties of both isomers are also described.

Reaction dynamics plays an essential role in understanding the microscopic mechanism of elementary chemical processes at the molecular level. Detailed studies of the reactions of atomic species such as hydrogen and second-row atoms with small closed-shell molecules have provided important insights into hydrocarbon synthesis, combustion, interstellar space and atmospheric chemistry. Despite its mechanistic significance, however, the investigations of atom-radical reaction dynamics are quite scarce in comparison to the extensive studies of atom-molecule reactions. (omitted)
The glass transition behavior of OLED materials is very important for both processing and lifetime. We report about the correlation between the structure of selected small molecule Hole Transport Materials (HTM's) and their glass transition temperature. The thermal stability of devices manufactured with them was investigated. The results give researchers and engineers some information which are helpful for designing new molecules and processing them in device making.
