  • The last decade has witnessed great improvements in power semiconductor devices thanks to the advanced design and process, which have made it possible to significantly improve the electrical performances of electronic systems while simultaneously reducing their site, weight and perhaps most importantly reducing their cost. Among the power semiconductor devices, IGBT will be a key semiconductor component for power industry since it has a huge potential to cover large areas of power electronics from small home appliances to heavy industries. Currently, only a few limited power semiconductor manufacturers supply most of the industrial consumptions of power IGBT and its modules. Therefore, a large portion of technology in the power industry is dependent on other advanced countries. In this regard, to independently build power IGBT devices and the relevant power module technology, Korean government initiated a new 5-year project 'Power IT,' which also aimed at booming the business of the power semiconductor and the allied industries. With the success of this power IT project, it is expected that the power semiconductor technology will be a basis to foster the high power semiconductor industry and moreover, there will be more innovative developments in the Korea region and globally Also, forming the channel between the customers and suppliers, it is possible to effectively develop the customized power products, which could strengthen the competitiveness of Korean power industry. Furthermore, the power industry including semiconductor manufacturers will be technologically self-supporting and be able to obtain good business opportunities, and eventually increase the share in the growing power semiconductor market, which could be positioned as a major industry in Korea.

  • Since computerized numerical controller (CNC) emerged as a result of the fusion of the electronics technology and the mechanical technology, there has been continuous evolution of CNC technology in the mechatronics industry. The industry is recently developing a new control system based on the fusion of personal computer (PC) and CNC. Upgraded PC has now integrated into CNC, making various machines possible to exchange data, software and hardware, and to greatly improve man-machine interface. The fusion of PC and CNC can form a new paradigm in technological innovation of not only control system but also whole machinery industry in near the future. Korea lagged behind the developed countries in the development of open control system with the fusion of PC. Turbo-tek, Hyundai Motor and Daewoo are leading companies, but their commercial possibility seems to be low because domestic market is too small to reap a commercial benefit. Nevertheless, the development of the system is an essential step for Korea to embark on a future technological paradigm of the machinery industry. The government needs to play some role for the development, for instance, government R&D projects, institutional building and training of related technicians.

  • The computer industry has come to the generation of personal computer. The organization of the existing industry has the distinct boundary among companies in vertically integrated companies, produce whole assembled system, and compete in the part of hardware, operating system, and its related software based on theirselves design. Then according to keep the distinct monopolized architecture of industry, the enterprises only centralized on developing the monopolistic market and sharing the static market rather than competition and compatibility with other system. The horizontal distribution in small part industry is occurring, by the times of personal computer, and the companies of personal computer have coming into free competition with parts standardization and the open architecture of system. This paper suggests a reasonable model of industry under horizontal structure with analyzing the above phenomenon.

  • In this study, we derived the characteristics of the geo-spatial information industry by using input-output analysis. For this analysis, we classified the geo-spatial information industry and reorganized the input-output table. And we derived the production inducement coefficient, index of the power of dispersion and index of the sensitivity of dispersion in the geo-spatial information industry. We confirmed that geo-spatial information industry has a small production inducement coefficient and a great forward linkage effect. Based on these facts, we suggested the strategy direction as follows: 1) building the industrial eco-system, 2) managing both advance and applicability enhancement, 3) Establishing from a long-term point of view.

  • Focusing market failure and state intervention, this article analyzes the determinants of corporate training in Korea. Analysing the first wave of HCCP(Human Capital Corporate Panel) data produced by KRIVET(Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training), this article finds that even though the skills attainead in corporate in Korea are mostly general(industry-specific), but the market failure in training appears rather small and is confined to the manufacturing industry. And the state intervention in corporate training works only at manufacturing industry, it does not work at new service industry. The results mean that in new service industry, it is difficult to find out the existence of market failure in training due to the positive externalities. Therefore Korea government should look thoroughly into the state intervention in training in new service industry.

  • Since 2003, the biggest trade partner of South Korea has not been America but China. China appears to be a strong competitor of South Korea in every field of international market and even in IT industry, which has been one of the most competitive field of Korean Economy. IT Industry is now becoming a driving locomotive of economy in South Korea and China. It is reported that the IT gap between South Korea and China is shorten to be 1.7 years in 2006, from 2.6 years in 2003 and will be within one year in 2010. China has been aware of the urgent need of developing electronic and information industry in order to improve its productivity. In the results of the efforts to develop its IT industry, China has achieved average 25% yearly growth rate of IT manufacturing industry since 1991. Since 2004, South Korea has pursued IT 839 strategy. How South Korea and China can sustain the continuous development of IT industry. South Korea IT is expected to utilize China's through the mutual cooperation, which results in mutual benefit. To achieve the mutually benefited cooperation and specially to result in Small & Medium sized Korean companies' cooperation with China's, China is expected to improve the market system and create an environment of admitting intellectual property.

  • Most of all manufacturing industries are pursuing the manufacturing process innovation through the production process automation but the printing industry still does not get out of the analog ways of the entire process compared the entire manufacturing industry. Today, many printing enterprises have the difficulties by the short for delivery, multi-item small amount printing, high quality, rise in raw material cost, drop in receiving order cost, and etc. The printing industry can get over these difficulties and issues by implementing the compact workflow line, merge with the others, automatization and networking, minimization of the repetitive operation, efficiency of the working process, optimization of the operators' value creation, minimization of cost and materials and fast make-ready. The object of this thesis establishes the experimental data and study cases applicable in the printing industry by having high labor productivity and work in line with printing industry processes through "lean printing system".

A Study on the Problem and the Direction of the Korean Modern Woodcraft (한국 현대목공예의 문제점 및 방향에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to report on the problems of the Korean woodcraft in the past and to suggest a new direction for the development strategy, in line with the government policy to promote domestic craft culture industry. This includes the problems of the woodcraft in Korea which have been raising in contest-exhibits organized not only by industry and academia, but also by government. The survey asked 48 people (24 in industry and 24 in academia) shows as follows. The most serious problem shown in industry is the government-sponsored issue and it should be premised on offering the market in this case. The question in academia reports that the academic world little contributes to the development in industrial circles of the woodcraft, and the problematic issues of the contests are the appraisal standard and the method of evaluation. In brief, the government's aggressive support should be always first and foremost for the woodcraft industry which is often confronted with difficulties in research & development and in securing distribution channels due to it' small scale of business. Furthermore, the government-led contest and certificate of qualifications should be redesign for filling the original purpose and throughly carried out for the development of industries. Also university curriculum being far too disconnected from industries now should be focused on the collaboration between industry and university, the training mission and the related seminars to overhaul the contents of the department of the woodcraft and to create a progressive direction for the future accordingly.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic weakened the small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector. The decline in turnover is one that is felt by the batik industry in East Java, and the decline in turnover in the batik industry is very drastic. This research was conducted to prove the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on SMEs in the batik industry. One model is proposed to prove the existence of an increase in the performance of the batik industry's SMEs by implementing a customer relationship management strategy, business strategy, and market orientation. The study population was the batik industry entrepreneurs in East Java, Indonesia, using SEM analysis based on Amos, purposive sampling method, and a sample of 180 respondents. The results showed that the model was accepted. The results also show that customer relationship management and business strategy contributed to the performance of SMEs, while market orientation did not contribute to the performance of SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic. To be able to maintain the sustainability of the company, the steps taken by the company are to lay off some of the employees, and during the production period the production stops, and focus on selling goods that have been previously produced.

  • Purpose: This study analyzed the general status and conditions of the kimchi industry in Korea. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the information of a desirable kimchi market by analyzing the distribution, price, market, and consumers of kimchi based on the current status and status of the kimchi industry in Korea. Research design, data and methodology: This study basically conducted research design and analysis based on theoretical consideration and kimchi market data. Results: The conclusion of the study is that in order to globalize kimchi, it is expected that a strategy to target overseas markets with relatively low competition through a low-salt diet and premium strategy along with the image of Western health is expected. Conclusions: In Korea, small and medium-sized companies can target the B2B (Business-to-Business) market first and then target department stores or convenience stores at a stable time in the future to expand sales channels and profitability through premium or low-cost policies. Another strategy is to target overseas markets as soon as the company stabilizes through B2B. Therefore, in the kimchi industry, it is necessary to establish a sales/marketing strategy according to what position and position of one's own company in the kimchi industry.
