Multi-camera systems which integrate two or more low-cost digital cameras are adopted to reach higher ground coverage and improve the base-height ratio in low altitude remote sensing. To guarantee accurate multi-camera integration, the geometric relationship among cameras must be determined through platform calibration techniques. This paper proposed a combined two-step platform calibration method. In the first step, the static platform calibration was conducted based on the stable relative orientation constraint and convergent conditions among cameras in static environments. In the second step, a dynamic platform self-calibration approach was proposed based on not only tie points but also straight lines in order to correct the small change of the relative relationship among cameras during dynamic flight. Experiments based on the proposed two-step platform calibration method were carried out with terrestrial and aerial images from a multi-camera system combined with four consumer-grade digital cameras onboard an unmanned aerial vehicle. The experimental results have shown that the proposed platform calibration approach is able to compensate the varied relative relationship during flight, acquiring the mosaicing accuracy of virtual images smaller than 0.5pixel. The proposed approach can be extended for calibrating other low-cost multi-camera system without rigorously mechanical structure.

In this paper, a parallel bank of multiple adaptive unknown input observers approach suggested by D.Wang is applied to detect a single fault of control surface actuator and to estimate the actuator position of lock-in-place fault using a small fixed-wing UAV model with eight control surfaces. This paper shows that not only the fault diagnosis algorithm detects and estimates each faults of lock-in-place in 1 second by simulation but also it may be unavailable to isolate among two same-shaped rudders.

In this paper, a systematic consequence of evaluation method, procedure, and flight data analysis is investigated for application of ADS-33E-PRF to UAV. And it is applied to unmanned rotorcraft for evaluation. CNUHELI-020, which is developed in Chungnam National University, is used for assessment of handling quality: decoupled longitudinal and lateral/directional model were used to assess handling qualities. Evaluation flight maneuvers are categorized as hover/low-speed requirements, small-amplitude attitude change, and moderate-amplitude attitude change requirements.

In this paper, higher order coupler using small size waveguide which applicable for mobile Ku-band multimode monopulse satellite tracking antenna system, has been designed, implemented and tested. Proposed higher order mode coupler adopts a coaxial structure for low profile characteristic considering installation property to mobile satellite terminal system. In addition, by using proposed coupler, extracted tracking error signal pattern has measured and confirmed that required tracking accuracy is satisfied in desired frequency band. In the future, proposed coupler could utilize for multimode monopulse satellite tracking system for high tracking accuracy.

The efficiency and effectiveness of mission performance can be greatly changed according to the operating conditions such as the number of manned aircraft, flight altitude, and so on, in performing search and reconnaissance missions using a large number of small reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles. However, it is not easy to determine which operating conditions are most reasonable. Therefore, in this study, we developed an unmanned airplane flight simulation that can detect and identify the target while avoiding collision according to autonomous flight, suggesting a way to derive operating conditions when operating a large number of unmanned aerial vehicles.
With the increasing application of UAVs in intelligent transportation systems, vehicle detection for aerial images has become an essential engineering technology and has academic research significance. In this paper, a vehicle detection method for aerial images based on the YOLOv4 deep learning algorithm is presented. At present, the most known datasets are VOC (The PASCAL Visual Object Classes Challenge), ImageNet, and COCO (Microsoft Common Objects in Context), which comply with the vehicle detection from UAV. An integrated dataset not only reflects its quantity and photo quality but also its diversity which affects the detection accuracy. The method integrates three public aerial image datasets VAID, UAVD, DOTA suitable for YOLOv4. The training model presents good test results especially for small objects, rotating objects, as well as compact and dense objects, and meets the real-time detection requirements. For future work, we will integrate one more aerial image dataset acquired by our lab to increase the number and diversity of training samples, at the same time, while meeting the real-time requirements.

The use of drones is gradually increasing for the efficient maintenance of large-scale renewable energy power generation complexes. For a long time, photovoltaic panels have been photographed with drones to manage panel loss and contamination. Various approaches using artificial intelligence are being tried for efficient maintenance of large-scale photovoltaic complexes. Recently, semantic segmentation-based application techniques have been developed to solve the image classification problem. In this paper, we propose a classification model using semantic segmentation to determine the presence or absence of failures such as arcs, disconnections, and cracks in solar panel images obtained using a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera. In addition, an efficient classification model was implemented by tuning several factors such as data size and type and loss function customization in U-Net, which shows robust classification performance even with a small dataset.

The four wing unmanned aerial vehicle owns the characteristics of small size, light weight, convenient operation and well stability. But it is easily disturbed by external environmental factors during flight with these disadvantages of short endurance and poor attitude solving ability. For solving these problems, a microprocessor based on STM32 chip is designed and the overall development is completed by the resources such as built-in timer and multi-function mode general-purpose input/output provided by the master micro controller unit, together with radio receiver, attitude meter, barometer, electronic speed control and other devices. The unmanned aerial vehicle can be remotely controlled and send radio waves to its corresponding receiver, control the analog level change of its corresponding channel pins. The master control chip can analyze and process the data to send multiple sets pulse signals of pulse width modulation to each electronic speed control. Then the electronic speed control will transform different pulse signals into different sizes of current value to drive the motor located in each direction of the frame to generate different rotational speed and generate lift force. To control the body of the unmanned aerial vehicle, so as to achieve the operator's requirements for attitude control, the PID controller based on Kalman filter is used to achieve quick response time and control accuracy. Test results show that the design is feasible.
We are developing an optomechanical design of infrared telescope for the CubeSat and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which adapts the Linear Astigmatism Free- Three Mirror System in the confocal off-axis condition. The small entrance pupil (diameter of 40 mm) and the fast telescope (f-number of 1.9) can survey large areas. The telescope structure consists of three mirror modules and a sensor module, which are assembled on the base frame. The mirror structure has duplex layers to minimize a surface deformation and physical size of a mirror mount. All the optomechanical parts and three freeform mirrors are made from the same material, i.e., aluminum 6061-T6. The Coefficient of Thermal Expansion matching single material structure makes the imaging performance to be independent of the thermal expansion. We investigated structural characteristics against external loads through Finite Element Analysis. We confirmed the mirror surface distortion by the gravity and screw tightening, and the overall contraction/expansion following the external temperature environment change (from -30℃ to +30℃).

In the air power, UAVs have played a large and diversified role in performing missions from simple to high-level complex ones. In particular, the suppression of enemy air defenses(SEAD) is very dangerous for a pilot so it is expected that the manned-unmanned teaming(MUM-T) system with tailless stealthy unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) will greatly enhance effectiveness of the mission while ensuring the pilot safe. This paper describes simulation studies of remote airborne control(RAC) environment for performing the SEAD mission by MUM-T, by which the air force pilot remotely controls tailless UAVs individually or small UAVs in swarm. Through this simulation, air force pilot can derive the concept of MUM-T mission operation with various UAVs in the future, and it can be used to upgrade the MUM-T system by verifying the effectiveness of the mission.
