An Empirical Study on Classification, Business Type, Organizational Culture on Performance of Korean IT SMEs·Venture (중소·벤처기업의 업종, 영업형태, 조직문화가 기업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 삼원분산분석(3-way ANOVA)을 중심으로)

  • In Korea, small and medium sized domestic enterprises(SMEs) play an pivotal role in the national economy, accounting for 99.9% of all enterprises, 87.9% of total employment, and 48.3% of production. and SMEs was driving a real force of the development of national economy in many respects such as innovation, job creation, industrial diversity, balanced regional development. Despite their crucial role in the national development, most of SMEs suffer from a lack of R&D capabilities and equipments as well as funding capacity. Public R&D institutes can provide SMEs with valuable supplementary technological knowledge and help them build technological capacity. so, In order to effectively support SMEs, government and public R&D institutes must be a priority to know about the factors influencing the performance related to technology transfer and technological collaborations. In particular, SMEs are not only taking up a large portion of the national economy, but also their influence in politics and economy so strong that raising the competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies is a national policy goal that must be achieved in order to achieve sustained economic growth. For this reason, it is necessary to look specifically at the relationship between concepts such as the environment, strategy, and organizational culture surrounding the enterprise to enhance the competitiveness of SMEs. The paper analyzes 665 companies to find out which organizational culture affects their performance by classification and type of business of SMEs. This study demonstrated that when SMEs seek consistency in their external environment, strategies, and organizational structure to maintain their continued competitiveness. According to three-way analysis of variance (3-way ANOVA) indicates that classification of industries in SMEs has statistically significant main effects, but the type of business and organizational culture do not have significant effects. However, the company's organizational performance (operating profit) of SMES were found to differ significantly in comparison between groups according to classification standards of industries, and therefore adopted some parts. In addition, an analysis of the effect of interaction between the three independent variables of small and medium-sized enterprises has shown that there are statistically significant interaction effects among classification, types of business, and organizational cultures. The results shows that there is an organizational culture suitable for each industry classification and type of business of an entity, and is expected to be used as a basis for establishing promotion policies related to the incubation and commerciality of small and medium-sized venture companies in the future.

Importance of End User's Feedback Seeking Behavior for Faithful Appropriation of Information Systems in Small and Medium Enterprises (중소기업 환경에서의 합목적적 정보시스템 활용을 위한 최종사용자 피드백 탐색행위의 중요성)

  • Small-and-medium sized enterprises(SMEs) represent quite a large proportion of the industry as a whole in terms of the number of enterprises or employees. However researches on information system so far have focused on large companies, probably because SMEs were not so active in introducing information systems as larger enterprises. SMEs are now increasingly bringing in information systems such as ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning Systems) and some of the companies already entered the stage of ongoing use. Accordingly, researches should deal with the use of information systems by SME s operating under different conditions from large companies. This study examined factors and mechanism inducing faithful appropriation of information systems, in particular integrative systems such as ERP, in view of individuals` active feedback-seeking behavior. There are three factors expected to affect end users` feedback-seeking behavior for faithful appropriation of information systems. They are management support, peer IT champ support, and IT staff support. The main focus of the study is on how these factors affect feedback-seeking behavior and whether the feedback-seeking behavior plays the role of mediator for realizing faithful appropriation of information systems by end users. To examine the research model and the hypotheses, this study employed an empirical method based on a field survey. The survey used measurements mostly employed and verified by previous researches, while some of the measurements had gone through minor modifications for the purpose of the study. The survey respondents are individual employees of SMEs that have been using ERP for one year or longer. To prevent common method bias, Task-Technology Fit items used as the control variable were made to be answered by different respondents. In total, 127 pairs of valid questionnaires were collected and used for the analysis. The PLS(Partial Least Squares) approach to structural equation modeling(PLS-Graph v.3.0) was used as our data analysis strategy because of its ability to model both formative and reflective latent constructs under small-and medium-size samples. The analysis shows Reliability, Construct Validity and Discriminant Validity are appropriate. The path analysis results are as follows; first, the more there is peer IT champ support, the more the end user is likely to show feedback-seeking behavior(path-coefficient=0.230, t=2.28, p<0.05). In other words, if colleagues proficient in information system use recognize the importance of their help, pass on what they have found to be an effective way of using the system or correct others' misuse, ordinary end users will be able to seek feedback on the faithfulness of their appropriation of information system without hesitation, because they know the convenience of getting help. Second, management support encourages ordinary end users to seek more feedback(path-coefficient=0.271, t=3.06, p<0.01) by affecting the end users' perceived value of feedback(path-coefficient=0.401, t=6.01, p<0.01). Management support is far more influential than other factors that when the management of an SME well understands the benefit of ERP, promotes its faithful appropriation and pays attention to employees' satisfaction with the system, employees will make deliberate efforts for faithful appropriation of the system. However, the third factor, IT staff support was found not to be conducive to feedback-seeking behavior from end users(path-coefficient=0.174, t=1.83). This is partly attributable to the fundamental reason that there is little support for end users from IT staff in SMEs. Even when IT staff provides support, end users may find it less important than that from coworkers more familiar with the end users' job. Meanwhile, the more end users seek feedback and attempt to find ways of faithful appropriation of information systems, the more likely the users will be able to deploy the system according to the purpose the system was originally meant for(path-coefficient=0.35, t=2.88, p<0.01). Finally, the mediation effect analysis confirmed the mediation effect of feedback-seeking behavior. By confirming the mediation effect of feedback-seeking behavior, this study draws attention to the importance of feedback-seeking behavior that has long been overlooked in research about information system use. This study also explores the factors that promote feedback-seeking behavior which in result could affect end user`s faithful appropriation of information systems. In addition, this study provides insight about which inducements or resources SMEs should offer to promote individual users' feedback-seeking behavior when formal and sufficient support from IT staff or an outside information system provider is hardly expected. As the study results show, under the business environment of SMEs, help from skilled colleagues and the management plays a critical role. Therefore, SMEs should seriously consider how to utilize skilled peer information system users, while the management should pay keen attention to end users and support them to make the most of information systems.

  • The current status of information management and information strategy of an enterprise may determine the future capability of the firm, thus the competitiveness in the market. Especially, in case of SME(small and medium enterprise), the level of information management and strategy gives the company readiness in the ever changing business environment. In this study, we investigate the information infrastructure of SMEs operating in Incheon Metropolitan areas whether they can meet the challenge in terms of network, software, IT education, IT finance, etc. We came up some suggestions which might be good alternatives and choices for IT decision makers in local and central government.

Impacts of SME Credit and Technology Information Sharing upon Banks' Credit Analysis (중소기업정보 공유가 은행의 신용분석에 미치는 영향)

  • Today's new engine of economic growth is innovative technology intensive SMEs. However, they have limited access to funding because of asymmetric information problems. Sharing of SME information helps reduce information asymmetry. This paper explains the Korean system of SME technology information sharing, as well as SME credit information sharing. It also provides theoretical analysis about the effects of the SME information sharing on banks' credit analysis activities, based on Karapetyan and Stacescu (2013). Sharing of SME credit and technology information expands the data set of banks and it will enhance their credit analysis. In addition, SME information sharing increases banks' investments in credit analysis activities. To encourage SME information sharing and production, the government can subsidize the production of SME technology information.

Financing Risk in Indonesian Islamic Rural Banks: Do Financing Products Matter?

  • This paper investigates the impact of profit and loss sharing (PLS) contracts on non-performing financing of Islamic rural banks as Islamic small banks focus on small and medium enterprises at province level across country. Our study employs panel data, consisting of 142 Islamic rural banks and using quarterly data from 2013Q1 to 2018Q4, and splits them based on the bank's size and geographical area. Both static and dynamic panel regressions are then applied. The results obviously indicate that a high proportion of profit and loss sharing contracts leads to high financing risk. The large Islamic banks encounter a higher non-performing financing stemming from profit and loss contracts compared to small Islamic banks. Profit and loss contracts also produce higher financing risk for Islamic banks outside Java, as those areas are less developed areas than Java itself. A more efficient Islamic bank is less financing risk. Income diversification lessens the impaired financing and, more particularly, large Islamic banks and Islamic banks located in Java much benefit by diversifying income and financing to lower financing risk. Our study suggests that Islamic rural banks may consider the optimal level of profit and loss sharing contracts to minimize financing risk.

  • In this paper, due to the instability of the domestic market, global competition is intensifying in the current situation of global capacity building of SMEs for the purpose of developing a diagnostic indicator placed on the purpose. In this model, the results of applying several companies overall global innovation pilot enterprises and non-rated global innovative companies awarded significant difference between the score and the ability to believe the show. Non-global innovation companies, the relative firm size factor and R&D investment and patent number of factors are lacking appeared shone This is a common small business nature of the majority of companies small and R&D investment, the absolute amount is insufficient to reflect that, but the global innovator in the case of firm size and the relatively large amount of investment that never shows.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of the vocational training satisfaction of youth on their career adaptability to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The questionnaires were distributed and answered by 1128 students enrolled in six vocational schools located in Seoul. Convenience sampling was used for this study. The results of this study are as follows: The satisfaction of vocational training positively influenced career adaptability; more specifically, the satisfaction of vocational training had a positive effect on the Initiative and Goal-Orientation of career adaptability. These results provide theoretical and practical implications that various vocational education programs and job experience programs are needed for the SMEs in the future.

Knowledge Focused Networked Incubation : Case Study (지식중점 네트워크 인큐베이션 : 사례연구)

  • With the arrival of the Internet age, which is characterised by interconnection, the importance of networks is increasing in entrepreneurial activities and networked incubation (NI) has emerged as a mainstream concept in business incubation (BI). However, detailed studies on operation models of NI have been scarcely conducted. In this respect, this paper suggests a knowledge-focused networked incubation (KNI) model optimised for the study BI was established by theoretical analysis, and has been applied. The initial diagnosis of the effectiveness of the KNI model was also conducted through descriptive statistics, case studies, and the Industrial Depth Interview (IDI). This study is significant in that it has elaborated an NI operation model that meets the down-to-earth needs of incubatees and also is universally applicable.

The Effects of External Search Strategy on Innovation Performance: In the Context of Korean SMEs (외부 정보 탐색 전략이 혁신 성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구: 한국 중소기업을 대상으로)

  • This paper seeks to explore the effects of search strategies on innovation performance in the context of small and medium enterprises. The empirical results of 3,398 Korean SMEs demonstrate that there is a substitutive relationship between search depth and search width, and this substitutive relationship is weakened when a firm possesses collaboration experience. Furthermore, although these two types of search enhance innovation performance, the impact of search depth is greater than that of search width. The positive effect of search width on innovation performance is weakened when the firm adopts formal information protection mechanisms.

Study on the Application of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act in Construction Sites and Practical Improvement Measures for Legal Deficiencies

  • This study analyzed the practical issues in the Serious Accident Punishment Act (SAPA) for construction sites and proposed measures to improve provisions that are detached from reality. The Act aims to prevent major accidents across various industries, with a particular emphasis on the construction sector. While the Act's intention is commendable, several significant legal flaws have emerged during its implementation. These issues were critically analyzed and strategic recommendations were proposed. Key issues include ambiguous legal definitions, the differential impact of the law on small and large businesses, and the increased administrative and managerial burdens. This study proposed specific measures to enhance the clarity of legal terminology and technology, balance the responsibilities between small and large businesses, and streamline administrative processes. Additionally, methods for effectively revising the regulations and reasonably complying with them on-site were proposed. By addressing these issues, we aim to improve the effectiveness of the law, ensure fair application, and ultimately create a safer working environment in the construction industry. The recommendations are expected to serve as valuable resources for future revisions and improvements to SAPA and contribute to the broader goal of sustainable industrial safety and development.
