  • A single-photon laser and mid-wave infrared (MWIR) common aperture optical system was designed and developed to detect and range a long-distance civil aviation aircraft. The secondary mirror of the Ritchey-Chretien (R-C) optical system was chosen as a dichroic lens to realize the design of a common aperture system for the laser and MWIR. Point spread function (PSF) ellipticity was introduced to evaluate the coupling efficiency of the laser receiving system. A small aperture stop and narrow filter were set in the secondary image plane and an afocal light path of the laser system, respectively, and the stray light suppression ability of the small aperture stop was verified by modeling and simulation. With high-precision manufacturing technology by single point diamond turning (SPDT) and a high-efficiency dichroic coating, the laser/MWIR common aperture optical system with a 𝜑300 mm aluminum alloy mirror obtained images of buildings at a distance of 5 km with great quality. A civil aviation aircraft detection experiment was conducted. The results show that the common aperture system could detect and track long-distance civil aviation aircraft effectively, and the coverage was more than 450 km (signal-to-noise ratio = 6.3). It satisfied the application requirements for earlier warning and ranging of long-range targets in the area of aviation, aerospace and ground detection systems.

  • This paper presents hairpin-comb bandpass filter using ground aperture. Hairpin-comb resonator maintains the weak coupling though the space between two resonators is very small. This has the good merit that the entire filter size is small for narrowband bandpass filter. The coupling between two hairpin-comb resonators so very weak that can't be applicable to general microstrip. We compensate the coupling by using ground aperture. It makes the hairpin-comb filter possible that can be applicable to general microstrip. Also it has the good merit which adjusts the bandwidth by changing the size of aperture without changing the space. In this paper, we fabricate the bandpass filter, which has 1.78 GHz center frequency and 62 MHz (3.5%) fractional bandwidth.

  • In this paper, general methods for enhancing the transmission efficiency through the small subwavelength aperture in an infinite conducting plane are considered first by use of the transmission-resonant aperture like the ridged circular aperture structure, second by employing the transmission-resonant cavity structure. In particular, the maximum transmission cross section is found to be $\frac{2G{\lambda}^2}{4{\pi}}[m^2]$ for the two structures, where G is the gain of the aperture in the output half space. As experimental works, the impedance matching characteristics are investigated for the cases that above two structures are incorporated as a potential near field microscopic probe in the waveguide end. As a complementary problem to the above transmission-resonant aperture problem, some discussions are also given on the scattering resonance by the scattering object much smaller than the wavelength. This discussion may provide a good understanding of the physics for the phenomena that the maximum scattering cross section is much larger than the physical size of the atom in atomic physics area.

  • In this paper, satellite communication based video surveillance system that consisted of ultra-small aperture terminals with small-size smart vision sensor is proposed. The events such as forest fire, smoke, intruder movement are detected automatically in field and false alarms are minimized by using intelligent and high-reliable video analysis algorithms. The smart vision sensor is necessary to achieve high-confidence, high hardware endurance, seamless communication and easy maintenance requirements. To satisfy these requirements, real-time digital signal processor, camera module and satellite transceiver are integrated as a smart vision sensor-based ultra-small aperture terminal. Also, high-performance video analysis and image coding algorithms are embedded. The video analysis functions and performances were verified and confirmed practicality through computer simulation and vision sensor prototype test.

  • Sound insulation performance of the flush door in the apartment unit was recently decreased due to the door for the purpose of barrier free. To evaluate sound insulation, the test for 13 kinds of flush doors was performed as aperture conditions under the flush door. and the measured value was compared with the predicted values of theoretical sound transmission. The results were summarized follow; First, in case of doors with aperture by barrier free, the single number quantities ($D_{pw}$) were evaluated $21{\sim}23dB$. Whereas, in case of existing door with frame, $D_{pw}$ was evaluated $28{\sim}31dB$. And in case of sealed doors, $D_{pw}$ was evaluated $31{\sim}34dB$. Second, the measured $D_{pw}$ was good agreement with the predicted $D_{pw}$ in condition of small aperture.

  • The Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera combined with a small aperture telescope is an efficient equipment for an astronomy-related lab exercise. This paper compares the different photometry softwares to provide insights on using the GUI-based photometry tool to the conventional command-line based photometry tool. The magnitude of the same point source measured within the aperture is consistent regardless of the software used although the background estimation, partial pixel treatment, and error estimation are slightly different. In a crowded field image where the aperture photometry is less reliable, the aperture photometry with varying aperture size is useful to see the qualitative trend for the magnitude. Due to the variation in ISO settings and the color dependence on the RGB Bayer system, an initial uncertainty of ~0.15mag is expected to be embedded in the magnitude derived from the DSLR images.

  • An optical ROM card system which using an optical probe array generated by Talbot effect was proposed as new robust storage solution. To improve the optical density and to decrease the power consumption of the system, it is very important to make the spot sizes of optical probes smaller as well as to increase the optical efficiency from the light source to optical probes. In this study, a microlens illuminated aperture array for generating high efficiency optical probe away with small beam spot was designed and fabricated using monolithic lithography integration method. The maximum intensity of optical probes of microlens illuminated aperture array increased about 12 times of that of aperture array, and the full width half maximum of the optical probe at Talbot plane generated by microlens illuminated aperture array was $0.77{\mu}m$.

  • Detection and processing techniques for small objects on seabed by the active synthetic aperture sonar can be increased the detection performance because it can be used by short sensor array in small unmanned underwater systems that are spatially constrained. But the limited conditions on constant speed and straight movement of the platform cause a large error in the number of external environmental factors and exact phase synthesis process. In this study, analyzed the applicability of active synthetic aperture processing that is mounted on such a system, and compared detection resolution change in accordance with the phase difference mismatch caused by the along track disturbance. Various simulations were performed as a coherently focus processing model by adding along track disturbance mismatched parameter on the configuring simulator. As the result, detection performance of active synthetic processing for small objects on seabed was found a number of changes by the phase difference mismatch errors according to track disturbances and S/N ratio variations.

  • In this paper, a miniaturized band-pass filter structure, which comprises the irises of small resonant aperture and L-type irises inverter, is proposed. Ridged circular aperture iris is chosen as an elementary resonator. L-type iris which is placed between two adjacent elementary resonators is newly proposed as impedance inverter in order to reduce longitudinal length of the proposed filter. The fabricated minimized filter has 400 MHz bandwidth at the 10 GHz center frequency and the whole size is reduced to 70 % in length compared to conventional filter.

  • Semi-supervised learning is a good way to train a classification model using a small number of labeled and large number of unlabeled data. We applied semi-supervised learning to a synthetic aperture radar(SAR) image classification model with a limited number of datasets that are difficult to create. To address the previous difficulties, semi-supervised learning uses a model trained with a small amount of labeled data to generate and learn pseudo labels. Besides, a lot of number of papers use a single fixed threshold to create pseudo labels. In this paper, we present a semi-supervised synthetic aperture radar(SAR) image classification method that applies different thresholds for each class instead of all classes sharing a fixed threshold to improve SAR classification performance with a small number of labeled datasets.
