  • The paper aims to examine the impact of exports on the growth of Vietnamese manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by exploring the information of 36,053 enterprises across 24 manufacturing sectors from the Vietnam Annual Enterprise Survey (VAES) in the period 2014-2019. To deal with the problem of variable variance, autocorrelation, and endogeneity of the model, the paper uses the OLS regression method with a strong standard error method and system GMM. Export participation by SMEs is positively associated with business growth in terms of sales and total assets, according to the findings. The GMM estimate shows that the rate of sales growth among exporters is 36.5 percent greater than that of non-exporting enterprises in the case of the sales growth measure. Exporters' average total asset growth rate is 19% greater than the rate estimated for non-exporting businesses. The study's findings indicate the need of adopting policies that promote SMEs in transition economies like Vietnam to engage in exporting activities. Furthermore, the findings show that financial assistance and suitable ownership would enable SMEs to take advantage of export opportunities to increase sales and total assets.

  • This study describes the structure of the capital markets for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startup companies in Korea, which is an emerging market that has experienced drastic changes. The overall capital market can be divided into private and public capital markets. In the private capital market, most of the demand for capital comes from non-listed private firms, including startups and SMEs. In the case of SMEs and startups, the KOSDAQ, the Korea New Exchange (KONEX), and primary collateralized bond obligations (P-CBOs) are part of the public capital market. SMEs and startups are generally incapable of raising sufficient capital owing to their low credit ratings, and they largely have limited access to primary markets to issue shares and borrow money. The Korean government has developed a systematic financial aid program to provide funds to these companies. The fund for SMEs has significantly contributed to the development of the venture capital market. Many Korean banks provide substantial lending to SMEs, but this lending is available only because of the Korean government's loan recovery guarantee. Furthermore, SMEs can issue corporate debt in the form of primary collateralized bond obligations through government guarantees, but such debt issuances have placed increasing pressure on public guarantee institutions.

  • The article investigates the impact mechanism of absorption capacity (potential absorptive capacity - PAC and realized absorptive capacity - RAC) on the innovation efficiency of enterprises through the intermediate variable of dual innovation (exploratory innovation- INOR and exploitative innovation- INOI), based on the actual situation of Vietnam's small and medium enterprises (SMEs). A survey of Vietnam's SMEs was conducted from August 2020 to April 2021. The data was collected through interviews and questionnaires, and 146 valid questionnaires were received. The following results were acquired using SPSS 20.0 software to do correlation and regression analysis of data results.: The results show that the absorptive capacity of enterprises has a positive impact on innovation performance and dual innovation acts as a mediator in how absorptive capacity affects innovation performance. This study deepens the understanding of how absorptive capacity affects innovation performance and provides important new evidence for developing absorptive capacity and dual innovation in both theories and practice in Vietnam's SMEs. The study also proposes several solutions and recommendations to help Vietnam's small and medium enterprises improve their innovation capacity, competitiveness, and performance.

  • This study develops an exploratory model to evaluate the relationship between origins of corporate competencies and business performance, which targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Taiwan, analyzes 36 competence items in four functional dimensions: marketing, product design and development, manufacturing, and human resources management. The results from 760 valid samples from managers of Taiwan's SMEs reveal that in marketing competence and manufacturing competence were ranked high by Taiwan's SMEs managers. Elements contributed to manufacturing competence regarding reducing the number of suppliers has not been emphasized by Taiwan's SMEs managers. At the very top of the prevailing management competitive priority list are: (1) product or service quality, (2) timely delivery, (3) quality control improvement during the process, (4) increasing reliability of transportation, (5) introduction of new concepts and continuous improvement, and (6) improving after-sale services. The four competence dimensions are found highly correlated to business performance, which reflects the policy adjustments that Taiwan's small and medium-sized enterprises have made in the changing business environment to respond to the global market.

  • Purpose - The purpose of the present study is to discover success factors for small and medium-sized exporting enterprises and to derive factors that can positively influence the export of small and medium-sized enterprises. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the problem solution mentioned above. Research design, data, and methodology - A total of 258 filled-in questionnaires were collected; afterwards, frequency and cross tabulation analyses were conducted. The PPML analytic technique was applied to the core factors analyzed in Stages 1 and 2 to conduct regression analysis (cause and effect analysis and estimation method), thereby deriving success factors. Result - Based on detailed factors, a total of 15 success factors directly/indirectly involved in the success of export in small and medium-sized enterprises comprising 9 success factors, three positive effect factors for export, and three governments support policy factors were identified. Conclusions - The present paper is a rare empirical study paper that found and presented three detailed factors that positively influence on export and three government support policy factors, in addition to the above factors. Therefore, the results can be used by small and medium-sized enterprises that require not only previous studies, but also actual export success factor.

  • Earned value management(EVM) based progress management was designed to systematically manage large or huge projects with budget based criteria. For this reason, existed methods of EVM based progress management have a practical difficulty to apply to small and medium enterprises(SMEs) not possessing enough human resource, time, and cost. In other words, SMEs have performed simultaneously many small-sized projects emphasizing more project delivery than project budget. This study focuses on the area of project management applying to many small-sized projects simultaneously conducted by SMEs. Thus, the method proposed in this study is to manage only the progress of projects after removing cost factor in order to reduce man powers required for allocating the budget of projects to their all activities in detail in the stage of project planning. This study reveals that SMEs are able to manage progress of many projects easily and intuitively using the proposed method.

We used empirical analysis in order to examine the relationship underlying the globalization and its impact to SME growth. We employed primarily data from Tanzania SMEs. Further we seeks to explain the negative notion that has been created that globalization is not friendly to SME growths. We employed primary data from Tanzania SMEs. The partial least squares (PLS) was used for analysis. The conclusion has indicated that globalization has a relationship with SMEs growth and has contributed to the reduction of obstacles that inhibit SMEs growth. However study confirmed controversial result on part of availability of managers and manpower with global perspectives to influence SMEs growth. The test accepted that globalization has influenced availability of managers with global perspectives but reject the availability of these managers influences the SMEs growth The results give a clear outlook to help policy maker in policy review process, formulate base for extensive study on issues for manager perspectives and draw intervention.

  • Recently, the collaboration among small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) has been recognized as an effective competitive tool. As several systems have been developed to boost the collaboration, it is necessary to analyze the effectiveness of the systems in terms of their contribution to enhance operational performance of SMEs through objective and quantitative validation. In particular, the analysis for SMEs rather than large-scaled enterprises has not received much attention due to lack of relevant information and difficulty of collecting data. This paper presents a framework for analyzing the effectiveness of the collaboration support system, called i-manufacturing hub, which has been implemented by Korean government. Identification of influential factors to the effectiveness of collaboration hub, and constructing necessary hypotheses are proposed. To overcome the difficulty in data collection only by means of surveys through subjective questionnaires, we exploit system log data that are generated while SMEs use the system. As an initial phase to analyze the effectiveness through hypothesis validation, we discuss several interesting observations and challenges in the direction of enhancing collaboration among SMEs for better operational performance improvement and more participation in the collaboration hub.
