  • This paper proposes an antenna incorporating a bandstop filter to miniaturize the rectenna used for wireless power transmission with the emerging interest these days. To suppress the harmonics that can be re-radiated, this paper proposes a microstrip patch antenna that can suppress the harmonics while maintaining the size of the antenna by inserting a U-slot, which acts as a bandstop filter, on the ground plane of the antenna. As a result, S11 of the second harmonic(4.6GHz) was reduced from -5.61dB to -0.338dB and the efficiency was suppressed significantly from 29.76% to 1.5%. In addition, the maximum gain was reduced to -12dBi from 2.89dBi. On the other hand, at the fundamental frequency (2.45GHz), the S11 value was reduced from -18 dB to -15 dB, and the efficiency was reduced slightly from 68.2% to 60%. In the case of applying a microstrip antenna combined with the proposed bandstop filter to a rectenna, it is believed that the harmonics that degrade the performance of the rectenna can be removed effectively while reducing the large area occupied by harmonic suppression.

  • In this paper, a high gain, broadband planar vivaldi antenna (PVA) by utilizing a broadband stripline feed is developed for wireless communication for IoT systems. The suggested antenna is designed by attaching a tapered-slot construction to a typical vivaldi antenna, which improves the antenna's radiation properties. The PVA is constructed on a low-cost FR4 substrate. The dimensions of the patch are 1.886λ0×1.42λ0×0.026λ0, dielectric constant Ɛr=4.4, and loss tangent δ=0.02. The width of the feed line is reduced to improve the impedance bandwidth of the antenna. The computed reflection coefficient findings show that the suggested antenna has a 46.2% wider relative bandwidth calculated at a 10 dB return loss. At the resonance frequencies of 6.5 GHz, the studied results show an optimal gain of 5.82 dBi and 85% optimal radiation efficiency at the operable band. The optometric analysis of the proposed structure shows that the proposed antenna can achieve wide enough bandwidth at the desired frequency and hence make the designed antenna appropriate to work in satellite communication and medical internet of things (M-IoT) healthcare applications.

  • This paper proposes the design of circularly polarized multi band antenna for a non-linear junction detector (NLJD) system. In order to design for broad bandwidth, the CPW (Co-Planar Waveguide) feeding method is considered in this design. In order to realize the circular polarization, the axial ratio was controlled by inserting a $45^{\circ}$ inclined slot on radiating element and by cutting an edge of the radiating patch. Measurement results of return loss, bandwidth, axial ratio, polarization pattern and gain are agreed well with their simulation results in interested frequency band at 2.4~ 2.44 GHz, 4.84~4.92 GHz, and 7.28~7.32 GHz.

  • This paper proposes a wideband monopole antenna with improved band rejection characteristics by inserting two band notch slots with half wavelength in radiator. The designed antenna is composed of bow-tie patch fed electromagnetically with parasitic ground patch of a semicircular shape. We obtained band rejection filter-like characteristics by controlling coupling amounts between two horizontal resonance slots. Using this technique, we achieved the broad rejection bandwidth and improved skirt characteristics compared with only one notch slot. The measured bandwidth is from 2.7 GHz to 6.9 GHz for VSWR below 2.0 except the limited band of $4.96{\sim}5.51GHz$. This antenna shows a similar radiation pattern of the ideal monopole and the radiation gain reduction is more than $5{\sim}10dB$ on the x-z plane at rejection frequency.

  • This paper presents the performance of a planar, low-profile, and wide-gain-bandwidth leaky-wave slit antenna in different thickness values of high-permittivity gallium arsenide substrates at terahertz frequencies. The proposed antenna designs consisted of a periodic array of $5{\times}5$ metallic square patches and a planar feeding structure. The patch array was printed on the top side of the substrate, and the feeding structure, which is an open-ended leaky-wave slot line, was etched on the bottom side of the substrate. The antenna performed as a Fabry-Perot cavity antenna at high thickness levels ($H=160{\mu}m$ and $H=80{\mu}m$), thus exhibiting high gain but a narrow gain bandwidth. At low thickness levels ($H=40{\mu}m$ and $H=20{\mu}m$), it performed as a metasurface antenna and showed wide-gain-bandwidth characteristics with a low gain value. Aside from the advantage of achieving useful characteristics for different antennas by just changing the substrate thickness, the proposed antenna design exhibited a low profile, easy integration into circuit boards, and excellent low-cost mass production suitability.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented an ultra wideband (UWB) antenna with 5G mobile communication and WLAN bands rejection characteristics. The proposed antenna consists of a planar radiation patch with two slots, parasitic elements on both sides of the strip line and ground plane on back side. The upper n-type slot contributes for 5G mobile communication band (3.42~3.70 GHz) rejection and the lower n-type slot contributes for wireless local area network (WLAN) band (5.15~5.825 GHz) rejection. Parasitic elements were used in order to satisfy the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) less than or equal to 2.0 for UWB band (3.10~10.60 GHz) except two rejection bands. The Ansoft's high frequency structure simulator (HFSS) was used for antenna design and simulations. The simulated antenna showed dual rejection bands of 3.36~3.71 GHz and 5.13 ~ 5.92 GHz in UWB band, and measured result for the implemented antenna showed dual rejection bands of 3.40~3.72 GHz and 5.08~5.858 GHz. Simulated and measured VSWRs are less than or equal to 2.0 for all UWB band except dual rejection bands.

  • In this letter, a planar monopole UWB antenna with dual band-notched characteristics is proposed. The band-stop characteristics is realized by embedding the 1st/3rd order Hilbert-curve slots on the patch. With the dimension adjustment of each Hilbert-curve slots, the band rejection from 3.3 to 3.7 GHz and from 5.3 to 6 GHz can be accomplished easily. The VSWR and radiation pattern of the fabricated antenna are measured, and the proposed antenna would be adequate to a UWB applications.

  • This paper presents a compact ultra-wideband (UWB) flexible monopole antenna design on a paper substrate. The proposed antenna is made of iterations of a circular slot inside an octagonal metallic patch. This fractal-based geometry has been deployed to achieve compactness along with improved bandwidth, measured reflection coefficient -10 dB bandwidth ranging from 2.7 to 15.8 GHz. The overall size of the antenna is $26mm{\times}19mm{\times}0.5mm$, which makes it a compact one. The substrate used is paper and the main features like environment friendly, flexibility, green electronics applications and low cost of fabrication are the key factors for the proposed antenna. The aforementioned UWB prototype is suitable for many wireless communication systems such as WiMAX, WiFi, RFID and WSN applications. Antenna has been tested for the effect of bending by placing it over a curved surface of a very small radius of 10 mm.

  • A 8$\times$4 microstrip antenna array is designed at 5.3 GHz and its characteristics are investigated with respect to the application in dual polarized synthetic aperture radars. The design is focused on the achievement of a wide bandwidth, a high polarization purity, a low loss, a good isolation and some mechanical requirements suitable for the application. The antenna is fed by a -3 dB tapered feed network, and is composed of dual polarized SSFIP (Strip-Slot-Foam-Inverted Patch) elements with honeycomb and shielding plane. Simulation results for the antenna array are presented and compared with measurements. It is observed that the antenna shows a bandwidth of 80 MHz, a polarization isolation better than 20 dB, an isolation of 40 dB, and good mechanical characteristics.
