Design and Fabrication of Aperture-Coupled Microstrip Cylindrical Dielectric Resonant Antenna for Wireless LAN (무선 LAN용 개구결합 마이크로스트립 원통형 유전체 공진 안테나 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, on aperture-coupled microstrip cylindrical dielectric resonant antenna(DRA) consisting of dielectric material with permittivity ${\epsilon}_{r}$ = 36 is designed and fabricated fir wireless LAN. First of all, the feedline length, width, slot length and width of the feeding element were calculated using the theory of microstrip transmission line. Radiation element is designed using the theory of cylindrical dielectric cavity, Resonant frequency of the fabricated cylindrical DRA is 2.449 GHz and VSWR, return loss and bandwidth is 1.009, -47 dB and 70 MHz, respectively. Front-to-back radiation ratio is about 12 dB and 3 dB beamwidth of E-plane and H-plane is 110$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$ , respectively.

  • A 8$\times$4 microstrip antenna array is designed at 5.3 GHz and its characteristics are investigated with respect to the application in dual polarized synthetic aperture radars. The design is focused on the achievement of a wide bandwidth, a high polarization purity, a low loss, a good isolation and some mechanical requirements suitable for the application. The antenna is fed by a -3 dB tapered feed network, and is composed of dual polarized SSFIP (Strip-Slot-Foam-Inverted Patch) elements with honeycomb and shielding plane. Simulation results for the antenna array are presented and compared with measurements. It is observed that the antenna shows a bandwidth of 80 MHz, a polarization isolation better than 20 dB, an isolation of 40 dB, and good mechanical characteristics.

  • A planar slotted waveguide array antenna has been designed at 9.37 GHz for X-band radar applications. The antenna consists of multiple branchline waveguides with broadwall radiating shunt slots and a main waveguide to feed the branch waveguides through a series of inclined coupling slots. The antenna feed point is located at the center of the main waveguide. Element weights in the array have been calculated bysampling a continuous circular Taylor aperture distribution at the 25 dB sidelobe level in both the E and Hplanes. A commercially available electromagnetic (EM) simulation tool has been used to characterize the individual isolated slot and that data hassubsequently been used to design the planar array. The array is finally analyzed in a CST Microwave studio and the measured and simulated results have been found to be in good agreement.

  • This paper investigates the radiated emission from the enclosure aperture, when the enclosure contains a 4-layer PCB and the PCB is driven by a pulse train additive with the switching noise from an active device. Radiated emission characteristics with and without switch noise cases, respectively, are analyzed by changing the PCB location and the slot direction. The equivalent circuit of a DC-DC converter is used to simulate the switching noise of active device. Also, MWS simulation results are directly connected to the ADS simulator as a 2-port block. The simulated results are compared with the measured ones.

  • Spatial green's functions for a horizontal magnetic dipole in a parallel-plate waveguide are expressed in an improved closed-form with two-level approximation of the spectral green's functions. The results evaluated by the present closed-from green's function with two-level approximation are compard with those obtained the previous closed-form green's function with one-level approximation. The present results are observed to be more acurate than the previous results over wide frequency range as well as whole spatial range. The combination of the present closed-form green's functions and the moment mehtod may help in analyzing the problem of EMP coupling through an aperture into a parallel-plat waveguide and the microstrip slot antenna with a reflector.

A Study on sideband Aperture Coupled Microstrip Antenna Using U slot and stub (U 슬롯과 stub를 이용한 개구 결합 급전 방식의 광대역 마이크로스트립 안테나에 관한 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 개구 결합 방식의 마이크로스트립 안테나에 U 슬롯과 turning stub를 동시에 사용하여 넓은 대역폭을 갖는 안테나를 설계 및 제작하였다. 상대 유전율이 2.2이고 두께가 61mil인 duroid 5880기판을 사용하여 ITS(Intelligent Transport System)대역인 5.77GHz에서 동작하는 안테나를 설계하였고, VSWR$\leq$2를 기준으로 하여 약 12.4%의 대역폭을 얻을 수 있었다. 그리고 약 7GHz에서 동작하는 안테나에서는 상대 유전율이 2.2이고 두께가 31mil인 5880기판과 1.6mm인 form을 사용하여 VSWR$\leq$1.5를 기준으로 약 11.7%의 대역폭을 얻을 수 있었다. 각각의 경우 U 슬롯만을 사용한 경우와 비교할 때 5.77 GHz에서는 5.7% 7GHz대역에서는 약 4%의 대역폭 개선 효과를 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The goal of this study is to realize the PBG lowpass filter using novel PBG structure modification both upper layer and ground layer. It has been designed three aperture slots of ground layer for PBG structure which the center slot shape of ground is two type, rectangular and dumbbell. This PBG LPF has the character of the broader stopband and smaller size than typical LPF. The measurement results have matched the simulated ones. It has the cutoff frequency of each 4.465GHz and 3.52GHz and at least -20dB of the signal suppression at the stopband

Development of Ultra-Wideband Antennas

  • The ultra-wideband (UWB) spectrum available for commercial applications has offered us an opportunity to achieve high-speed wireless communications and high-accuracy location applications. As one of key research areas in UWB technology, a lot of innovative broadband and miniaturization techniques for UWB antennas have been greatly invented and developed for years. This paper reviews the development of UWB antenna design in the past decade. Starting with a brief introduction of the specific requirements and promising applications of UWB systems, the unique design challenges of UWB antennas are highlighted. Next, the important milestones of UWB antenna designs are briefed. After that, a variety of planar UWB antennas invented for broadband operation, miniaturization, and multiple functions are introduced. Last, the comments on the development of UWB antennas in future are shared.

  • In this paper, thrust ripple is minimized using notch and slot-aperture width adjustment in a slotted PMLSM and then optimal design was achieved by using a neural network. This paper has used the moving model node technique to reduce the time and the effort for calculation according to changing design parameters. As the result, the detent force of optimal model is decreased from 9.44[N] to 0.97[N] greatly compare with it of basic model. The thrust is decreased 1.3[%] from 342.07[N] to 337.48[N] a little.

  • In this paper, we propose DLP(Dual Linear Polarization) antenna with aperture coupled feeding structure for private network. The proposed antenna has general aperture coupled structure and design two port between top and bottom layer to obtain the enhanced isolation. Also, The size of each substrate(top and bottom layer) is 34.0 mm(W)×34.0 mm(L), which is designed on the FR-4 substrate which thickness (h) is 1.0 mm, and the dielectric constant is 4.4. Also, the size of patch antenna is 12.70 mm(W2)×14.60 mm(L3), and it is located on the top layer. The size of feeding line is 24.0 mm(W2)×1.6 mm(L3), and is located at the bottom layer Also, rectangular slot is located on the ground plane between top layer and bottom layer. From the fabrication and measurement results, bandwidths of 300 MHz (4.52 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 1, and 170 MHz (4.65 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 2 are obtained on the basis of -10 dB return loss and transmission coefficient S21 is got under the -30 dB.
