  • This study presents numerical solutions of three-dimensional laminar flow-field formed by photo resist flow in a slit-coater model. We discuss on the governing equations, laminar viscosities and the computational model applied in our numerical calculation and some results. We prove that the structure of tapered-cavity aid to make uniform pressure-field and boundary effect is an important problem to improve coating uniformity. In view of uniformity improvement, it is necessary to study for the structure of cavity and flow path.

  • A new stratified charge combustion system has been introduced and developed for GDI engines. Before this new GDI system, the stratified mixture was formed by a high pressure swirl injector. But, the special feature of new system is employed of a thin fan-shaped fuel spray formed by a slit type nozzle. Also, this system has been adopted a shell-shaped piston cavity. We made high pressure gasoline injection system and investigated the fan-shaped spray characteristics such as spray tip penetration, spray angle, SMD and velocities of droplets using PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) system and spray visualization system to obtain the concept of the new design and the fundamental data for the next generation GDI system. The experiment was performed at the injection pressures of 5 and 9MPa under the atmospheric condition.

  • In comparison with previous researches fur swirling flow, the spiral flow self-generated in the spiral flow nozzle has some different characteristics. It is not needed a compulsive tangential momentum to get its velocity component and has long potential core, relatively low swirl ratio, and high focusing ability. In this study, the self-generated mechanism of the spiral flow was clarified and the effect on the width of annular slit on spiral flow characteristics was investigated experimentally and numerically. As a result, the existence of tangential velocity component regardless of a compulsive angular momentum is clarified and the results obtained by experiment have a satisfactory agreement with those by numerical method, quantitatively and qualitatively.

  • In this study, slit-tones by plane impinging jet are investigated experimentally over the whole subsonic flow range, especially at low speeds, in order to obtain the instability behaviour of impinging plane jet. Slit-tones are generated at low speeds associated with laminar shear layer instability as well as at high speeds associated with turbulent instability. Most of low-speed slit-tones are induced by symmetric mode instability unless the slit is not so wide, in which case antisymmetric modes are induced like edge-tones. It is found that the frequencies at low speeds ate controled by the unstable condition of the vortex at the nozzle exit and its pairings by which the frequencies are decreased by half. In the case of symmetric modes related with low-speed slit-tones, frequencies lower than those associated with one-step pairings are not found.

  • Spandex yarn requires a twisting process during winding and unwinding processes at the textile industry. The air-twist nozzle is widely used as part of the winding and unwinding. This paper describes computational approach to design the geometry of the air-twist nozzle. The nozzle has circular yarn-channel and the air-inlet which is perpendicularly connected to the yarn-channel with yarn-loading slit. The air-inlet of the nozzle is designed while measurements of the yarn-channel are fixed. The airflow inside the air-twist nozzle is simulated by using Computational Fluid Dynamic model. The Ansys CFX was used to perform steady simulations of the airflow for the air-twisting process. The vortical structure and the airflow pattern such as velocity streamline, vorticity, velocity of the air-twist nozzle are discussed. Computational results are compared with experimental results in this paper.

  • This paper is to investigate the combustion characteristics with a three dimensional chemical reacting flow on the aspect ratio of an exit configuration of the slit type nozzle for the fuel injection and to device the methods of combustion/mixing enhancement. The results show that both inside inflow and slit side vertices should be considered from a viewpoint of the mixing. The combustion efficiency becomes the smallest at aspect ratio, where the aspect ratio is less and more than unity, respectively. The total pressure loss becomes the largest at aspect ratio of unity due to the high penetration. All results imply that a streamwise very long slit is desirable with respect to the combustion and the pressure loss.

  • Spiral jet is characterized by a wide region of the free vortex flow with a steep axial velocity gradient, while swirl jet is largely governed by the forced vortex flow and has a very low axial velocity at the jet axis. However, detailed generation mechanism of spiral flow components is not well understood, although the spiral jet is extensively applied in a variety of industrial field. In general, it is known that spiral jet is generated by the radial flow injection through an annular slit which is installed at the inlet of convergent nozzle. The objective of the present study is to understand the flow characteristics of the spiral jet, using a computational method. A finite volume scheme is used to solve 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model. The computational results are validated by the previous experimental data. It is found that the spiral jet is generated by coanda effect at the inlet of the convergent nozzle and its fundamental features are dependent the pressure ratio of the radial flow through the annular slit and the coanda wall curvature.

  • The impinging tones by high-speed plane jets are investigated for the characteristics of edgetone generation based on experimental observations. Experiment has been performed for edgetones with a slit nozzle and a wedge system. The jet in the experiment is varied from low to high subsonic speed to obtain the effect of the speed on the frequency characteristics of impinging tones. The experimental data obtained previously for edgetones and platetones by various nozzles are compared with the present edgetone data for the condition of tone generation, the frequency ranges and the effective source point. It is found that the jet speed has no fundamental influence on the impinging tone characteristics. Regardless of the jet speed, the effective source point is about a quarter wavelength downstream from the edge tip. With increase in jet speed, the influence of the nozzle configuration is decreased and the operating frequencies show good coincidencies by normalized parameters based on the slit thickness.
