Elastic stiffness of stud connection in composite structures

  • In composite structures, shear connectors are crucial components to resist the relative slip between the steel and concrete, and thereby to achieve the composite actions. In the service stage, composite structures are usually in elastic state, so the elastic stiffness of the shear connection is a quite important parameter in the structural analysis of composite structures. Nevertheless, the existing studies mainly focus on the load-slip relationship rather than the tangent stiffness at the initial elastic stage. Furthermore, when composite beams subjected to torque or local load, shear connections are affected by both tensile force and shear force. However, the stiffness of shear connections under combined effects appears not to have been discussed hitherto. This paper investigates the initial elastic stiffness of stud connections under combined effects of biaxial forces. The initial expression and the relevant parameters are obtained by establishing a simplified analytical model of the stud connection. Afterwards, parametric finite element analysis is performed to investigate the effects of the relevant factors, including the stud length, stud diameter, elastic modulus of concrete, elastic modulus of steel and volume ratio of reinforcement. The feasibility of the proposed modelling has been proved by comparing with sufficient experimental tests. Based on the analytical analysis and the extensive numerical simulations, design equations for predicting the initial elastic stiffness of stud connections are proposed. The comparison between the equations and the data of finite element models demonstrates that the equations are accurate enough to serve for engineering communities.

Bond behavior between concrete and prefabricated Ultra High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) plates

  • Externally bonded ultrahigh performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) is commonly used as a strengthening material for reinforced concrete (RC) structures. This study reports the results of an experimental program investigating the bonding behavior between concrete and prefabricated UHPFRC plates. The overall experimental program is consisting of five RC specimens, which are strengthened using the different lengths and widths of prefabricated UHPFRC plates. These specimens were analyzed using the pull-pull double-shear test. The performance of each strengthened specimen is presented, discussed and compared in terms of failure mode, maximum load, load-slip relationship, fracture energy and strain distribution. Specimen C-25-160-300 which bonded along the whole width of 160 mm recorded the highest maximum load (109.2 kN) among all the analysed specimens. Moreover, a 3D numerical finite element model (FEM) is proposed to simulate the bond behavior between concrete and UHPFRC plates. Moreover, this study reviews the analytical models that can predict the relationship between the maximum bond stress and slip for strengthened concrete elements. The proposed FEM is verified against the experimental program and then used to test 36 RC specimens strengthened with prefabricated UHPFRC plates with different concrete grades and UHPFRC plate widths. The obtained results together with the review of analytical models helped in the formation of a design equation for estimating the bond stress between concrete and prefabricated UHPFRC plates.

프리캐스트 바닥판 PSC 합성거더 교량의 거동 (Behavior of PSC Composite Bridge with Precast Decks)

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 수평전단 설계식을 적용하여 프리캐스트 바닥판 PSC 합성거더 교량을 설계, 제작하였다. 피로하중에 대한 바닥판과 거더 그리고 전단연결부의 내구성과 거동특성을 평가하기 위하여 피로실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과 200만회 반복하중을 재하한 후 바닥판과 거더의 균열 및 잔류처짐은 발생하지 않았으며, 휨강성의 감소없이 선형거동을 나타냈다. 그리고 전단연결부의 손상은 나타나지 않았다. 또한 정적실험을 수행하여 연결부의 거동과 설계식의 적용성을 평가하고, 극한하중 상태에서의 구조적 성능과 정적강도 등을 평가하였다. 프리캐스트 바닥판 PSC 합성거더 교량은 사용하중상태에서 균열에 대해 2.08의 안전율을 나타냈으며, 파괴 시 충분한 극한내력과 연성거동을 나타냈다. 수평전단 설계식을 프리캐스트 바닥판 PSC 합성거더 교량의 수평전단 설계에 적용할 경우 사용성 및 구조적 안전성에 문제가 없는 경제적이고 신속한 형태의 교량을 시공할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

결정 소성학을 이용한 반구 박판 성형공정 전산모사 (Computer Simulation of Hemispherical Sheet Forming Process Using Crystal Plasticity)

  • The hardening and the constitutive equation based on the crystal plasticity are introduced for the numerical simulation of hemispherical sheet metal forming. For calculating the deformation and the stress of the crystal, Taylor's model of the crystalline aggregate is employed. The hardening is evaluated by using the Taylor factor, the critical resolved shear stress of the slip system, and the sum of the crystallographic shears. During the hemispherical forming process, the texture of the sheet metal is evolved by the plastic deformation of the crystal. By observing the texture evolution of the BCC sheet, the texture evolution of the sheet is traced during the forming process. Deformation texture of the BCC sheet is represented by using the pole figure. The comparison of the strain distribution and punch force in the hemispherical forming process between crystal plasticity and experiment shows the verification of the crystal-based formulation and the accuracy of the hardening and constitutive equation obtained from the crystal plasticity.

FDDO 방법을 이용한 미소평판 주위의 저속 유동장 해석 (Analysis of Low-Speed Gas Flows Around a Micro-Plate Using a FDDO Method)

  • 미소평판 주위의 저속 기체유동장이 기체분자운동론에 근거한 방법으로 조사되었다. 모델충돌적분항으로 단순화된 볼츠만방정식을 Discrete Ordinate 방법과 결합된 유한차분법으로 수치해석 하여 길이가 $20{\mu}m$인 5% 평판 주위의 유동장을 계산하였다. 계산결과가 Information Preservation 방법 및 미끄럼 경계조건을 이용한 연속체 방법에 의한 결과와 비교되었다. 세 가지 서로 다른 방법에 의한 계산결과가 기본적으로 유사한 유동형태를 예측하였으나, 세부적인 변에서는 본 방법의 결과가 다른 두 방법의 결과보다 더 정확함을 보였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 벽 패널의 부분 합성거동 해석에 대하여 거론한다. 기 발표된 목재 바닥 시스템으로부터 유도된 처짐공식을 소개하고, 이 공식을 적용하여 석고보드와 강재 샛기둥으로 결합된 합성벽 패널의 중앙지점 처짐값을 산정한다. 나사연결부의 불완전성(미끄럼), 국부좌굴, 샛기둥 복부의 개구부, 그리고 인접 석고보드간의 불연속으로 야기 될 수 있는 강성의 감소 등을 처짐공식에 적절히 반영하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 적용된 처짐공식으로 산정된 처짐 기대치와 실험 관측치간의 비교에서는, 나사연결부의 상한 강성치를 사용한 처짐 기대치가 실험 관측치와 가장 근접한 결과를 보였다.

초미세 틈새의 기체 베어링 해석용 유효 점도의 표현식과 관련 계수들의 민감도 해석 (Sensitivity Analysis of Effective Viscosity Coefficients for Computing Characteristics of Ultrathin Gas Film Bearings)

  • A more accurate expression for effective viscosity is obtained using a linear regression of the data from Fukui-Kaneko's model, which are obtained through numerical calculations based on the linearized Boltzmann equation. Veijola and Turowski's expression is adopted as a base function for effective viscosity. The four coefficients in that equation are optimized, and sensitivity analysis is conducted for these coefficients. The results show that the coefficient for the first-order Knudsen number is the most accurate, whereas the coefficient in the exponential of the Knudsen number is the least accurate compared with Fukui-Kaneko's results. The expression for effective viscosity is accurate within 0.02% rms of Fukui-Kaneko's results for the inverse Knudsen numbers from 0.01 to 100 and surface accommodation coefficients ranging from 0.7 to 1.

A Kalman Filter Localization Method for Mobile Robots

  • In this paper, we investigate an improved mobile robot localization method using Kalman filter. The highlight of the paper lies in the formulation of combined Kalman filter and its application to mobile robot experiment. The combined Kalman filter is a kind of extended Kalman filter which has an extra degree of freedom in Kalman filtering recursion. It consists of the standard Kalman filter, i.e., the predictor-corrector and the perturbation estimator which reconstructs unknown dynamics in the state transition equation of mobile robot. The combined Kalman filter (CKF) enables to achieve robust localization performance of mobile robot in spite of heavy perturbation such as wheel slip and doorsill crossover which results in large odometric errors. Intrinsically, it has the property of integrating the innovation in Kalman filtering, i.e., the difference between measurement and predicted measurement and thus it is so much advantageous in compensating uncertainties which has not been reflected in the state transition model of mobile robot. After formulation of the CKF recursion equation, we show how the design parameters can be determined and how much beneficial it is through simulation and experiment for a two-wheeled mobile robot under indoor GPS measurement system composed of four ultrasonic satellites. In addition, we discuss what should be considered and what prerequisites are needed to successfully apply the proposed CKF in mobile robot localization.

원형튜브내에서 이동중인 고체입자층의 열전달 특성연구 (Heat Transfer to a Downward Moving Solid Particle Bed Through a Circular Tube)

  • An experiment was conducted to investigate whether an equation of heat transfer coefficient derived form energy equation of two-phase plug flow can be actually applied to the industrial field. The heat is constantly transfered to the sand beds from the wall of heat exchanger while the sand moves down through cylindrical heat exchanger by gravity from feed hooper. To increase heat transfer, turbulators such as glass ball and steel pipe packings were used. In addition, the experiment in the case of fluidizing the sand beds was also carried out. The temperatures of the sand beds and the wall were measured along the heat exchanger axis. The density and porosity of the sand beds were also measured. The deviations of the mean velocity of sands from the velocity on the wall surface because of the slip conditions on the wall were negligible (within 3%). The heat transfer coefficients when the turbulators were used and when the sand beds were fluidized were found to be much greater than those of the plain plug flow.

임팩트햄머 드릴의 슬립토크 설계 제어를 위한 분석 프로세스 고찰 (Study on Analysis Process for Slip Torque Design Control of Impact Hammer Drills)

  • This paper describes the derivation methodology of the working torque predictive model that can be used in the initial design stages of the impact hammer tool. The working torque control mechanism is designed, taking into account various factors, such as the force of the spring and friction. Firstly, the analysis dynamic model for working environments was modeled as an additional bush and spring, and verified by comparing the test results of the working torque. Secondly, the main performance parameters of the working torque were theoretically defined by analyzing the operating mechanism. The equation to predict the working torque was derived using the dynamic analysis results according to the value changes of the parameters. The prediction equation of the working torque was validated by comparing the predicted results with the experimental data. The error difference between the experimental data and the predictive model results was found to be 8.62%.
