Geological and geophysical surveys were performed to examined the cause of the rock-mass slide occurred at the opening site of the Wanglim tunnel of the Seoul-Pusan High Speed Railway. The results of geophygical survey and geometrical analysis for the geological structures indicate that the rock-mass slide was triggered by the heavy rainfall which increases the groundwater level and results in high pore pressure in the N60$^{\circ}$ E-trending major fractured zone of the slope, and that the foliation dipping toward the vertical open face of the slope acted as a main sliding plane during movement.

Automatic Video Surveillance System (AVSS) has become important to computer vision researchers as crime has increased in the twenty-first century. As a new branch of AVSS, baggage detection has a wide area of security applications. Some of them are, detecting baggage in baggage restricted super shop, detecting unclaimed baggage in public space etc. However, in this paper, a detection & classification framework of baggage is proposed. Initially, background subtraction is performed instead of sliding window approach to speed up the system and HSI model is used to deal with different illumination conditions. Then, a model is introduced to overcome shadow effect. Then, occlusion of objects is detected using proposed mirroring algorithm to track individual objects. Extraction of rotational signal descriptor (SP-RSD-HOG) with support plane from Region of Interest (ROI) add rotation invariance nature in HOG. Finally, dynamic human body parameter setting approach enables the system to detect & classify single or multiple pieces of carried baggage even if some portions of human are absent. In baggage detection, a strong classifier is generated by boosting similarity measure based multi layer Support Vector Machine (SVM)s into HOG based SVM. This boosting technique has been used to deal with various texture patterns of baggage. Experimental results have discovered the system satisfactorily accurate and faster comparative to other alternatives.

The design point of the cross-flow fan is generally based on the region within low static pressure and high flow rate. It relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice. However, it has low static pressure efficiency between $30\%$ and $40\%$ because of relative high impact loss. The purpose of this study is to research the reciprocal relation among each parameter. Experiments and numerical analyses are conducted on effects of a stabilizer and a rearguider on performance analysis of a cross-flow fan. Two-dimensional, unsteady governing equations are solved using FVM, PISO algorithm, sliding grid system and standard $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model. Experiments are also carried out to estimate the performance of the modeled cross-flow fan. It is clarified that the rearguider of Archimedes type has excellent results for the most part.

The graphites as airtight structure seals prevent high-pressure and high-temperature gas from flowing into actuator of propulsion system and generate lubricant film during wear procedure to assist lubricant and sealing. In this study, the tribological characteristics of the graphite in high-temperature are evaluated. In order to evaluate the tribological characteristics of high density graphite(HK-6), variables which are temperature, sliding speed and contact load are set. this study suggest optimized environment conditions through the wear properties of graphite. Consequeantly, high temperature is better than at room temperature to generate lubricant film, so that friction coefficient of graphite is lower at high temperature than at room temperature.

In this paper, a chattering alleviation VSS controller for the sinusoidal type BLDC motor is designed. Dead Zone function is proposed to change the chattering occurring in the transient state from high frequency to low frequency and time-varying gains are applied for the control input to eliminate the steady state excessive chattering in the conventional ISM. The proposed Dead Zone function represents the sliding layer composed of two switching surfaces and if a state vector exists in this layer, the chattering don't occur. Simulation and experimental results confirm the useful effects of the above algorithm.

Twisted rudder, twisted rudder with bulb, and twisted rudder with bulb and fin have been developed computationally for 3,000 TEU container ship through parametric study. The objective function is to minimize delivered power in model scale. Design variables are twisted angle, rudder bulb diameter and fin angle. The governing equation is Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations in an unsteady turbulent flow and the Reynolds stress model applied for the turbulent closure. A double body model is used for the treatment of free-surface. The calculation was carried out in towing and self-propulsion conditions at design speed. The sliding mesh technique was employed to simulate the flow around the propeller. Form factor is obtained from the towing computation. Self-propulsion point is obtained from the self-propelled computations at two propeller rotating speeds. The delivered power due to the designed twisted rudder, twisted rudder with bulb, and twisted rudder with bulb and fin are reduced by 1.1%, 1.6%, and 2.0%, respectively.
Effects of the extrusion temperature and die angle on the tensile properties of SiCIyAl composites in powder extrusion have been investigated. SiCP/Al composites were extruded at various extrusion temperatures (450, 500, $550^{\circ}C$) under the extrusion ratio of 25 : 1. The ram speed was maintained at 13 cm/min for all the extrusion conditions. The surface of the extruded rod appeared to be smooth without tearing at 450 and 50$0^{\circ}C$, whereas it was very rough due to tearing at $550^{\circ}C$. It was found that the tensile strength and elongation of the composites extruded at $500^{\circ}C$ are greater than those of composites extruded at $450^{\circ}C$ This is due to the easier plastic deformation of composite extruded at $500^{\circ}C$, compared with the composites extruded at $450^{\circ}C$. The effect of die angle was examined under 20=60, 120, $180^{\circ}$die angles at extrusion temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ under 25:1 extrusion ratio. The tensile strength of the composites extruded with 20=$60^{\circ}$approved to be higher than that of the composties extruded with 28 : 120 and $180^{\circ}$This is attributable to the higher extrusion pressure, which mixed composite powders could be densely consolidated at elevated temperatures, resulting from high friction force between billet and sliding surface of conical die.
This paper addresses the adaptive controller for efficiency optimization of induction motors. The paper describes an adaptive controller based on-line efficiency optimization control of a drive that uses a direct vector controlled induction motors. To improve the efficiency of the induction motors, it is important to find the optimal flux reference that minimize power loss. The proposed optimal flux reference is derived using a power loss function that is constructed with stator resistance losses, rotor resistance losses and core losses. The proposed sliding mode flux observer generates estimates the unmeasured rotor fluxes. An optimal efficiency controller has goal of maximizing the efficiency for a given speed and load torque. A simulation shows the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

This paper shows the numerical and experimental results about the hydrodynamic characteristics of X-Twisted rudders having continuous twist of the leading edge along the span. All the results were compared with those of the semi-balanced rudder. Calculation through the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes Equation (RANSE) code with propeller sliding meshes shows large inflow angle and fast inflow velocity in the vicinity of ${\pm}0.7$ R from the shaft center, so it may cause cavitation. Also, X-Twisted rudder has relatively small inflow angles along the rudder span compared with semi-balanced rudder. For the performance validation, rudders for two large container carriers were designed and tested. Cavitation tests at the medium sized cavitation tunnel with respect to the rudder types and twisted angles showed the effectiveness of twist on cavitation and the tendency according to the twist. And the resistance, self-propulsion and manoeuvring tests were also carried out at the towing tank. As a result, in the case of X-Twisted rudder, ship speed was improved with good manoeuvring performance. Especially, it was found out that manoeuvring performance between port and starboard was well balanced compared with semi-balanced rudders.

Friction and wear behavior of tungsten oxide nanorods (TONs) was investigated using friction force microscopy(FFM) employing colloidal probes instead of conventional sharp tips. Vertically well-ordered TONs with 40 nm diameter, 130 nm length and 100 nm pitch width were synthesized on an anodic aluminium oxide substrate using two step electrochemical anodizing processes. The colloidal probe (diameter 20 ${\mu}m$) attached at the free end of tipless cantilever was oscillated(scanned) against a stationary surface of vertically aligned TONs with various scan speeds (1.2 ${\mu}m/s$, 3.0 ${\mu}m/s$ and 6.0 ${\mu}m/s$) and sliding cycles (100, 200 and 400) under normal load of 800 nN. The friction force and wear depth decreased with the increase of the scan speed. Plastically deformed thin layers were formed and sparsely deposited on the worn nonorod surface. The lower wear rate of the TONs with the longer oscillating cycles was attributed to the decreased real contact pressure due to the increase of real contact area between the colloidal probe and the TONs.
