  • Receiving room's floor impact sound level is been influenced to various factor of slab thickness, room size, structure etc. This study examined the noise of upper part slab and room mode in receiving room to be importance factor that influence in receiving room level among this factors. According to this study, vibration mode in slab and room mode are concentrated on frequency that is high level relatively. This causes bad effect in floor impact sound level. Therefore, method to reduce floor impact sound level is to change vibration mode using slab upper part's resilient material or reduce room mode in receiving room.

  • This paper highlights a study undertaken on the free vibration of a precast steel-concrete composite slab panel for track support. The steel-concrete composite slab track is an evolvement from the slab track, a form of ballastless track which is becoming increasingly attractive to asset owners as they seek to reduce lifecycle costs and deal with increasing rail traffic speeds. The slender nature of the slab panel due to its reduced depth of construction makes it susceptible to vibration problems. The aim of the study is driven by the need to address the limited research available to date on the dynamic behaviour of steel-concrete composite slab panels for track support. Free vibration analysis of the track slab has been carried out using ABAQUS. Both eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes have been extracted using the Lanczos method. The fundamental natural frequencies of the slab panel have been identified together with corresponding mode shapes. To investigate the sensitivity of the natural frequencies and mode shapes, parametric studies have been established, considering concrete strength and mass and steel's modulus of elasticity. This study is the world first to observe crossover phenomena that result in the inversion of the natural orders without interaction. It also reveals that replacement of the steel with aluminium or carbon fibre sheeting can only marginally reduce the natural frequencies of the slab panel.

  • This paper presents unprecedented damped oscillation behaviours of a precast steel-concrete composite slab panel for track support. The steel-concrete composite slab track is an innovative slab track, a form of ballastless track which is becoming increasingly attractive to asset owners as they seek to reduce lifecycle costs and deal with increasing rail traffic speeds. Both undamped and damped eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes have been extracted using the Lancsoz method. The fundamental natural frequencies of the slab panel have been identified together with corresponding mode shapes. To investigate the sensitivity of the natural frequencies and mode shapes, parametric studies have been established, considering concrete strength and mass and steel's modulus of elasticity. • In this study, on-site testing was carried out to investigate the vibration performance of a composite steel-bar truss slab with steel girder system. Ambient vibration was performed to capture the primary vibration parameters (natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes). The composite floor possesses low frequency (< 10 Hz) and damping (< 2%). Based on experimental, theoretical, and numerical analyses on natural frequencies and mode shapes, the boundary condition of SCSC (i.e., two opposite edges simply-supported and the other two edges clamped) is deemed more reasonable for the composite floor. Walking excitations by one person (single excitation), two persons (dual excitation), and three persons (triple excitation) were considered to evaluate the vibration serviceability of the composite floor. The measured acceleration results show a satisfactory vibration perceptibility. For design convenience and safety, a crest factor ${\beta}_{rp}$ describing the ratio of peak acceleration to root-mean-square acceleration induced from the walking excitations is proposed. The comparisons of the modal parameters determined by ambient vibration and walking tests reveal the interaction effect between the human excitation and the composite floor.

  • This study examined small-size specimen's effectiveness that is used to evaluate floor impact sound performance. Floor impact sound level of small-size specimen is higher than full-size. This is due to excessive impact power of Bang machine. Impact hammer that has small impact power relatively can solve this problem. But, according to the size of specimen, mode shape and frequency that influence to structural borne sound is changed. Slab mode of full-size specimen was changed to frequency design of resilient materials. But in case of small-size specimen, there is no change of vibration mode by resilient materials change, Vibration mode of small-size specimen is the same. Therefore, it is not proper that use small-size specimen in floor impact sound estimation.

  • Finite element analysis of concrete slab system in apartment building was executed using the tables of orthogonal arrays, and optimal design process was proposed. At first, experimental results show that sound peak components to influence the overall level and the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab. Finite element model of concrete slab was compared with experimental results, and well corresponded with an error of less than 10%. The tables of orthogonal arrays were used for finite element analysis with 8 factors. 3 related to material properties and 5 related to slab shape parameters and its results were analyzed by statistical method, ANOVA. The most effective factor among them was slab thickness, and main effect factor from slab shape parameters was different from each natural frequency. The interaction was found in the higher mode over $3^{rd}$ natural frequency. From main effect plot and interaction plot, the optimal design factor to increase the natural frequency was determined.

  • The floor impact noise arising between upper and lower households in residential houses has been known as one of major causes worsening residential environment and still led to serious social troubles in a residential community. It is known that the heavy weight floor impact noise is induced by flexural vibration modes in the relatively lower frequency ranges. In this study, a procedure is examined to evaluate the relations between the vibration modes and the corresponding noise of the slab. In the process, for simplicity of the numerical analysis, it is assumed that the slab is simply supported plate-like structure and the acoustic mode formed in the lower room by acoustic boundary conditions is ignored.

  • Recently, with increasing social interests on noise and vibration induced by railway traffic, the application of floating slab track that can efficiently reduce the railway vibration is increasing. In this study, to more accurately understand the dynamic behavior of the floating slab track, a laboratory mock-up test has been performed, and the static and dynamic behaviors at frequency range near the system resonance frequency were explored. Based on the test results, the design of the floating slab track and the structural analysis model used in the design have been verified. The analytic and test results demonstrate that the dominant frequency of the floating slab track occurs at the frequencies between vertical rigid body mode natural frequency and bending mode natural frequency, and the dominant deformation mode is close to the bending mode. This suggests that in the design of the floating slab track, the bending rigidity of the slab and the boundary conditions at slab joints and slab ends should be taken into consideration. Also, the analytic results by the two-dimensional finite element analysis model using Kelvin-Voigt model, such as static and dynamic deflections and force transmissibility, are found in good agreement with the test results, and thus the model used in this study has shown the reliability suitable to be utilized in the design of the floating slab track.

  • Vibration characteristics of concrete slabs were investigated using a 1:10 scale model and finite element method. A 1:10 scale model of a test building with 150 and 200mm slab thicknesses was made of acrylic materials. Modal test was conducted to investigate mode shape and modal frequencies. Results show that the mode shapes of two slabs with different thickness are similar each other, whereas natural frequency is different. Through modal analysis using FEM, it was revealed that both mode shapes and natural frequencies calculated from the FEM model are similar to those of the scale model measurement. It was also found that natural frequencies increased with increment of the slab thickness.

  • The relationship between floor impact sound and vibration has been studied by field measurements, and the vibration modal characteristics have been analyzed. Vibration levels impacted by a standard heavy-weight impact source have been predicted according to the main design parameters using finite element method. Experimental results show that the dominant frequencies of the heavy impact sounds range below 100 Hz and that they are coincident with natural frequencies of the concrete slab. In addition, simple 2-dimensional finite element models are proposed to substitute 2 types of 3-dimensional models of complicated floor structural slabs those by The analytical result shows that the natural frequencies from first to fifth mode well correspond to those by experiments with an error of less than $12\%$, and acceleration peak value iscoincident with an error of less than $2\%$. Using the finite element model. vibration levels areestimated according to the design Parameters, slab thickness, compressive strength, and as a result, the thickness is revealed as effective to increase natural frequencies by $20\~30\%$ and to reduce the vibration level by 3$\~$4 dB per 30 mm of extra thickness.
