The quantitative analysis of view tells how surroundings and sky are showed, and requires understanding of visual perception and three dimensional information of buildings. The visual perception and the existing projection methods for view analysis are examined. The results of this study are as follows: The visual perception on the size is determined by the visual angle, which can be described as a solid angle. The analysis of view by planar projection can be narrow-sighted according to the size of the window and the location of the viewpoint, which will cause the obstacles in the normal direction of the window interfere the view. For the analysis of view by fisheye projection, the area around the focus point is calculated wider than other areas, and so the view ratio depends on the position of the focus point. When analyzing sky view by dividing the sky vault into the differential area, the distortion by projection can be minimized.
Stellar mass is an important parameter of galaxies. We estimate the dynamical mass of an elliptical galaxy by its velocity dispersion and effective radius using the Hernquist model in the framework of MOdified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND). MOND is an alternative theory to the dark matter paradigm. In MOND the dynamical mass is the same as the baryonic mass or luminous mass, and in elliptical galaxies most of the baryons reside in stars. We select elliptical galaxies between redshift 0.05 and 0.5 from the main galaxy sample and the luminous red galaxy sample in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We find that the stellar mass-to-light ratio at different redshift epochs can be fitted by a gamma distribution, and its mean is smaller at smaller redshifts.
We present a method for determining the abundance ratio of nitrogen to iron ([N/Fe]) from low-resolution (R~2000) stellar spectra from large spectroscopic surveys such as Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST). The basic idea of the method is to match a grid of synthetic spectra with an observed spectrum in the CN band region around 3883 Å. To calibrate our estimate of [N/Fe], we make use of the giants observed in Apache Point Observatory Galaxy Evolution Experiment (APOGEE), which are also observed in the SDSS. This method will be applied to the Galactic halo stars to determine [N/Fe], and the measured nitrogen abundance ratios will be used to investigate the C-N anti-correlation, which is observed in globular clusters, to trace their origin with their kinematic properties.

For the purpose of recording polarization of the earth's atmosphere, the entire sky was photographed using the all-sky camera when the Sun was just above the horizon. The ratio and width of polarization were defined using the photograph, and a method to measure them was developed. Time-series photography of the polarization ratio and its width enabled us to qualitatively analyze the polarization phenomena which changes depending on the weather conditions. Findings indicated that polarization was co-related with air pollutants in a meaningful way. The polarization phenomena of the Earth's atmosphere are influenced by air pollutants. The more air pollutants exist in the air, the lower polarization ratio and the bigger polarization width it has. It is suggested that air pollutants disperses more photons, which makes it possible to observe the polarization phenomena in the vast area of the sky.

Recently, studies of vibration control performance improvement of tall buildings connected by a sky-bridge have been conducted. In this study, the effect of difference of natural vibration periods of two buildings and install location of a sky-bridge on vibration control performance has been investigated. To this end, 40-story and 50-story building structures were selected as example structures. Analytical models were developed by varying the natural period difference ratio from 1.0 to 1.5. Artificial earthquake load based on KBC2009 was used as an excitation for time history analyses. Based on numerical simulation results, it has been shown that control performance for displacement and velocity of tall buildings connected by a sky-bridge is improved as the difference of natural periods of two buildings increases and the linked story becomes higher. However, in the case of acceleration response, it shows a counter trend compared to displacement and velocity responses.
Particle depolarization ratios (DPRs) at 440, 675, 870 and 1020 nm are retrieved from AERONET sun/sky radiometer observations at Gosan and Kongju in South Korea. The retrieved results show good agreement with DPRs measured by lidar at 532 nm. High DPRs are found when Asian dust passes through at the upper atmosphere over 2 km above the Earth's surface. In case of lower atmosphere less than 2 km from the ground, DPRs are relatively low due to the small amount of dust particles and mixing of dust with air pollutants.

Aerosol lidar ratio (extinction-to-backscatter ratio) at 532 nm was determined using 4-year measurements of elastic-backscatter lidar and sky radiometer at Seoul National University of Seoul, Korea. The mean lidar ratio (with standard deviation) based on 4 years of measurements is found to be $61.7{\pm}16.5$ sr, and weak seasonal variations are noted with a maximum in JJA ($68.1{\pm}16.8$ sr) and a minimum in DJF ($57.2{\pm}17.9$ sr). The lidar ratios for clean, dust, and polluted conditions are estimated to be $45.0{\pm}9.5$ sr, $51.7{\pm}13.7$ sr, and $62.2{\pm}13.2$ sr, respectively. While the lidar ratio for the polluted condition is appears to be consistent with previous studies, clean and dust conditions tend to have larger ratios, compared to previous estimates. This discrepancy is thought to be mainly due to the anthropogenic aerosols existing throughout the year around Seoul, which may cause increased lidar ratios even for clean and dust conditions.
We present the far-ultraviolet fluorescent molecular hydrogen ($H_2$) emission map observed with FIMS/SPEAR for ~76% of the sky. The fluorescent $H_2$ emission is found to be saturated by strong dust extinction at the optically thick, Galactic plane region. However, the extinction-corrected intensity of fluorescent $H_2$ emission is found to have strong linear correlations with the well-known tracers of the cold interstellar medium, such as the E(B-V) color excess, neutral hydrogen column density N(HI), $H{\alpha}$ emission, and CO $J=1{\rightarrow}0$ emission. The all-sky molecular hydrogen column density map is also obtained using a photodissociation region model. We also derive the gas-to-dust ratio, hydrogen molecular fraction ($f_{H2}$), and $CO-to-H_2$ conversion factor ($X_{CO}$) of the diffuse interstellar medium. The gas-to-dust ratio is consistent with the standard value $5.8{\times}10^{21}atoms\;cm^{-2}mag^{-1}$, and the $X_{CO}$ tends to increase with E(B-V), but converges to the Galactic mean value $1.8{\times}10^{20}cm^{-2}K^{-1}km^{-1}s$ at optically thick regions with E(B-V)>2.0.
Venetian blinds are used with windows to improve the uniformity ratio of illuminance and interior daylighting distribution under direct sunlit conditions. The main objective of Venetian blinds shading system is to obstruct direct sunlight and at the same time allow daylight to penetrate into the room. Venetian blinds would have greater effect on the interior daylighting condition under clear sky which has both skylight and sunlight than overcast sky which has only skylight. However, due to the lack of data, design and evaluation tools, it is difficult for architects to choose or install venetian blinds during the building design stages. The purpose of this study was to develop an analysis method for shading and daylighting effects of Venetian blinds using the RADIANCE program. The major variables related to the venetian blinds included blinds's slat angle and the ratio of slat width to window height, the radius slat of curvature and the building azimuth. In this study, a series of parametric physical mock-up model measurements and genblinds command in the RADIANCE simulations. The results of this study will provide building designers with the design data at early design stages.
Three of the leading computer daylighting simulation programs are compared with physical modeling techniques as a means of predicting daylighting performance of interior spaces. Lumen-Micro, Adeline and Lightscape are compared with physical model experiments under clear sky conditions. The comparative evaluations are conducted on analysis of daylight illuminance ratio(%) depending on model types. The estimated average errors are analyzed on 9.4% in Lumen-Micro, 6.3% in Adeline and 3.4% in Lightscape. Therefore, it is proved that three programs are useful for evaluating daylighting performance in our clear sky condition.
