  • The present study was conducted to determine whether skin spread of Myrrha and Tending Diancibo Pu (TDP) irradiation have a remarkable effect on the cell regeneration as well as wound healing following dermal scald burn injury. Burn injury was induced on dorsal surface $(TBSA\;15\~20\%)$ by scald burn in rats. Postburn concentration of serum protein was significantly decreased compared with sham-treated, double treatment with Myrrha and TDP was significantly increased the protein concentration compared with that of burn control. The content of keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) at 48 h is higher than that of at 24 h, and double treatment with Myrrha and TDP was the most effective to increase the production of KGF in all experimental groups. Morphologically, epithelial regeneration and dermal collagen synthesis by fibroblasts were accelerated in Myrrha and TDP treated group compared with bum control at same time postburn. At 48 h after burn, all dermal connective tissues are recovered to new collagen fibers in case of Myrrha and TDP double treated group. The data suggest that double treatment with skin spread of Myrrha and TDP radiation have a remarkable effect of to accelerate cell regeneration and wound healing in case of scald burn skin.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of cold application for reducing spasticity in patients with traumatic brain min injury cerebrovascular accident who did not take neurosurgical treatment and medication except patients with spinal cord injury. The participants consisted of 24 men and 21 female were ramdomly assigned to three groups with each 15. The result were as followings after making an observation about the change of skin temperature and spasticity throughout cryotherapy which was performed with ice stick in Group I (1 min), Group II (5 min) and Group III(10 min). 1. It was found that the Group III, Croup II, Group I, in order named, had the statistically significant reduction of skin temperature, the reduction of spasticity showed statistically significance in Group III, Group II, in order named, but did not show it even though there was a little increase in Group I. 2. The reduction of skin temperature and spasticity did not continue over 24 hours at the same time every day for 5 days. 3. The longer cryotherapy was applied the mere skin temperature and spasticity reduced, the more skin temperature was reduced the more spasticity reduced.

  • Complications of pelvic fractures and sacroiliac joint luxation include hemoabdomen, pulmonary trauma, and soft tissue injury. Among them, rectal perforation accounts for 1% of pelvic fracture complications. Delayed diagnosis is commonly associated with a poor prognosis. A mixed-breed dog was presented to Jeonbuk Animal Medical Center (JAMC) after a traffic accident with no signs of rectal perforation. After fracture surgery, rectal perforation was seen as a perianal fistula. This report describes a case of a perianal fistula progressed from rectal perforation after a traffic accident that was curatively treated with lateral caudal axial pattern flap surgery to the perianal skin.

  • A Morel-Lavallée lesion is a post-traumatic closed degloving soft tissue injury after blunt trauma. Infection and skin necrosis frequently occur if it is not treated properly in the early stages. However, there is no clearly established treatment algorithm. In the acute stage, it is mainly treated with aspiration, simple compression, and incisional drainage. In the chronic stage, sclerotherapy is usually performed. If skin necrosis develops, the necrotic tissue is resected and a skin graft is needed. We describe a case of acute Morel-Lavallée lesion in the buttock region that was treated with limited incisional drainage and negative-pressure wound therapy, and also present a review of the literature.

  • Purpose: Crushing injuries by car tires result from a combination of friction, shearing, and compression forces and the severity of injury is influenced by the acceleration. Because car-tire injuries of the lower leg in children are common these days but they have received little attention; thus, our purpose was to look closely into this problem. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted of data from children under 15 years old age who visited an emergency department because of a car-tire-related crushing injury to the lower leg in pedestrian traffic accident from January 2008 to September 2012. The patient's age, sex, site of injury, degree of injury, associated injuries, type of surgery, and complications were reviewed. Results: There were 39 children, the mean age was 8.0 years, and 71.8% were boys. The dorsal part of the leg was involved most frequently. According to the severity classification, 15 children were grade I, 6 were grade II, and 18 were grade III. Among 24 patients, 13 were treated with skin graft and 3 were treated using a sural flap. Twelve patients developed complications, such as hypertrophic scarring, contractures, and deformities with significant bone loss. Conclusion: Various degrees of skin or soft tissue defects were caused in children by car tires. In this study, patients were often also had tendon or bone damage. Proper and timely initial treatments are needed to reduce the incidence of infection, the number of operative procedures, and the hospital stay.

  • This study was conducted to investigate an effect of Mori Cortex in the cardiac injury following dermal scald burn in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were induced scald bum (15% of total body surface area). Heart was removed at 5 h postburn and examined with biochemical assay, ultrastructural observations and stereological analysis. The activity of serum aspartate aminotransferase and creatinine was increased at 5 h postburn compared with them of control. Administration of heat extracts of Mori Cortex after scald burn inhibited the production of KC (neutrophil chemoattractant cytokine) and increased the activity of protein kinase C (PKC) in heart tissue. The activity of myeloperoxidase (MPO) in heart tissue was decreased both at 5 h postburn and in case of Mori Cortex administration after scald burn. Ultrastructurally, many contraction bands and separation of intercalated disk induced by scald burn were decreased by administration of heat extracts of Mori Cortex. In stereological analysis, administration of Mori Cortex after scald burn resulted the volume densities of myofibril and mitochondria were increased compared with them of burn control. These data suggest that Mori Cortex may be a useful stuff to the range of available treatments for cardiac injury induced by skin burn.

  • Introduction and Objectives : Administrating the Sopungchengyoungtanggami-bang (SCG) extract on to the atopic dermatitis(AD) is to study change of external dermal formation, change of leukocytes in vasculature, change of lipid formation in stratum corneum and distribution of ceramide and this study is done through forcing injury to rat's back skin which are lipid protect formation in stratum corneum. Materials and Methods : The AD which caused intentionally using the external application on the rat's back skin was used the SCG. The change of leukocytes in vasculature has been identified through optima 5.2 and student t-test and the results were made into dermal formation graph. Results : After dispensing SCG extract into the AD, the dermal injury was decreased. Especially, recover of lipid protection formation which include lipid and ceramide in stratum corneum is suppressing acute inflammation that some factors are PKC, TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-12B which controled the secretion of relating inflammatory cytokine, also went onto decrease of angiogenesis, and the decrease of degranulated mast cell. In addition, the decrease of epithelial injury also caused the growth of cell to decrease in stratum basale and cytoclasis. In the vasculature, the leukocytes were also decreased and it could relate to decrease AD Conclusions : Thus, SCG has effect on AD suppressing the dermal injury through recovering of lipid protection formation in stratum corneum.
