  • This study examined the relations between degree of posterior dental compensation and skeletal discrepancy in Class III malocclusion. The pretreatment lateral cephalogras and dental casts of 87 skeletal Class III adults were selected to provide a random sampling of skeletal Class III malocclusion. Skeletal discrepancy was described with ANB angle, Wits appraisal, SN-Mn plane angle, FMA and ratios of basal arch width. Degree of posterior dental compensation was described with maxillary intermolar angle, mandibular interolar angle and sum of intermoloar angle. The relationships between skeletal discrepancy and degree of posterior dental compensation were analyzed with simple correlation analysis, stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows 1. A strong association was found between the variation in the anteroposterior measure, ANB angle and the variation of posterior dental compensation measures, sum of intermolar angle and mandibular intermolar angle in skeletal Class III malocclusion. 2. There was no statistically significant relationship between the variation in the vertical measures and the variation of posterior dental compensation measures in skeletal Class III malocclusion. 3. There was no statistically significant relationship between the variation in the anteroposterior and vortical measures and degree of basal arch width discrepancy.

  • The purposes of this study were to classify the anteroposterior and vertical skeletal pattern of normal occlusion samples into specific types with factor and hierarchical cluster analysis, and to evaluate the range and limit of skeletal relationships that permit the establishment of normal occlusion via natural dentoalveolar compensation. Lateral cephalograms of 294 normal occlusion samples were measured, as selected from 15,836 persons through a community dental health survey who cooperated in record taking. Using a factor analysis, two factors representing anteroposterior and vertical skeletal relationships were extracted from 18 skeletal measurements. Then cluster analysis classified the skeletal patterns into nine types. The means and the standard deviations of 8 anteroposterior skeletal measurements and 10 vertical skeletal measurements were determined and comparisons of these measurements among the types were performed. The results obtained in this study showed that the range of normal occlusion included very diverse anteroposterior and vertical skeletal relationships.

  • This study aimed to investigate the general mandibular symphysis (MS) shape variation among Class III skeletal base, using geometric morphometric analysis. Pre-treatment lateral cephalometric radiographs of 254 patients aged 11-40 years old, with Class III skeletal base (ANB <1°) and lower incisor angle (<99°) were included. Nine-landmarks with x and y coordinates were identified on MS using TPSDig2 software, then exported into Morpho J for shape and statistical analysis. Principal component analysis showed that three main shape dimensions with a total variance of 74.6% represented the majority variation of samples. Procrustes Anova showed the shape of MS in Class III skeletal base to be mainly influenced by gonial angle, incisor inclination and sex (P<0.0001). Canonical variate analysis showed that high gonial angle groups had significantly narrower and elongated MS whereas low gonial angle groups had wider, bulbous and rounded MS (P<0.0001). The ratio of alveolar part to basal part was 1:5 in low gonial angle and 2:3 in high gonial angle. Males had significantly taller MS with narrower B point area compared to females (P<0.0001). Retroclined incisors exhibited taller and retroclined alveolar parts (P<0.0001). The shape of MS in Class III skeletal base varied at the alveolar part, basal part or both and it is influenced by gonial angle, incisor inclination and sex. Hence, understanding the shape variation of MS is important to aid orthodontic treatment planning.

  • In order to know the variation of the associated craniofacial skeletal angle and linear distance according to the change of gonial angle, the roentgenographic cephalo metric study was undertaken in Korean normal cephalometric analysis and eletric computer. The fallowing results were optained. 1) The size of gonial angle is mainly depend on the lower gonial angle. The mean of upper gonial gngle is almost same in normal occlusion group$^*$ and malocclusion group. 2) It was resulted on normal group and malocclusion group by F test that the number of parameters that were significant at 5% level of confidence were 14 parameters in normal occlusion group and 22 parameters in malocclusion group. 3) Ramus height and mandibular body length increased and facial ratio is decreased as gonial angle decreased. 4) MP-T, overbite depth and Y-axis angle is not related to gonial angle in normal occlusion group, but in moloclusion group, as gonial angle decreased, MP-T and overbite depth is increased and Y-axis angle is decreased. 5) SN-MP, OP-MP, PP-MP is increased as gonial anglel increased, it was mainly depend on the lower gonial angle.

  • Natural actomyosin was extracted from the dorsal muscle of carp (Cyprinus carpio), and some Physico-chemical properties were determined. The sedimentation constant ($s_{20},\;_\omega$) of the purified skeletal muscle actomyosin was about 24.76s and the ATP sensitivity 147-176. The specific viscosity was rapidly ascended with the increase of protein concentration as other vertebrate actomyosins. ATPase activating site under the effect of pH variation was showed on the both sides of acid and base resembling with the tendency of rabbit skeletal muscle actomyosin, and found at 6.0 on the acidic side and at 9.5 on the basic side.

  • A mathematical model was developed to calculate the muscle force of lower extremity during the gait. We constructed a model of human locomotion, which includes a muscle-skeletal system with 7 segments and 16 lower limb muscles. Using a optimization technique, muscle forces variation of the lower extremity during the gait were generated and its result was verified by comparing a experimental results of EMG analysis. Moreover. the walking movement of the model could be compared quantitatively with those of experimental studies in human by inverse dynamics.
