  • A numerical and computer simulation for dynamic stability analysis of graded porous nanoplates has been provided using a Chebyshev-Ritz-Bolotin approach. The nanoplate has been formulated according to the nonlocal elasticity and a 3-unkown plate model capturing neutral surface location. All of material properties are assumed to be dependent of porosity factor which determines the amount or volume of pores. The nano-size plate has also been assumed to be under temperature and moisture variation. It will be shown that stability boundaries of the nanoplate are dependent on static and dynamical load factors, porosity factor, temperature variation and nonlocal parameter.

  • This study is aimed comparative analysis for business performance of land-based ezo abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) seed farms by standardizing cost structures by region and farming size. The result of survey on average farming incomes by region showed that farming incomes in Haenam and Jindo regions were much higher than those in other regions. Followed by Wando region, incomes in other regions were analyzed to be relatively lower. It is shown that farming incomes became higher as farm size increased. Farming incomes per unit size which were modified from farming incomes by region were highest in Jindo region, followed by East sea region, Wando and Haenam regions. Incomes in Jeju and Yeosu regions were analyzed to be relatively lower. Results on farming incomes per unit size ($m^2$) showed that both farming incomes and profits became higher as size increased. It implies that a scale effectiveness might exist in case of land-based abalone culture system. Impacts of major factors on farming profits and returns on investment in abalone seed aquaculture are summarized as follow. First, only if the survival rate increased by 10% with improvement of component ratio, variable effects became largest. In variable effects of other factors, a variation in Jindo region was largest and on the other hand, a variation in Yeosu region was shown to be smallest.

  • When the flood occurs in the alluvial rivers, the rivers adjust to the flood by means of the mechanism of the river bed variations and its morphological changes to pass that safely, the numerical model was developed to simulate the process of the alluvial river bed variation due to flood wave and carried out by the flood routing for flood wave and the sediment routing for river bed variation. The flood wave, river bed variation, and bed material size distribution may be analysed and predicted by this model. The ability of this model to predict the process of river bed response was proved by the application to the reach from Paldang dam to Indogyo site. In view of the flood analysis considering the sediment process, the effects of river bed variation for the flood routing may be negligible because the river bed variation is smaller than the unsteady flow variation during the same period. By the application of this model, it is shown that, in occurring of sequential flood events, the variation of the river bed and bed material size distribution due to flood wave is more dependent on the first flood event than the latter flood events, and that the river bed variation in this reach of the downstream Han river is dependent on the degradation and the coarsening of bed materials.

  • When a social scientist prepares to conduct a survey, he/she faces the problem of deciding an appropriate sample size. Sample size is closely connected with cost, time, and the precision of the sample estimate. It is thus important to choose a size appropriate for the survey, but this may be difficult for survey researchers not skilled in a sampling theory. In this study we propose a method to determine a sample size under certain assumptions when the quantity of interest is measured by a Likert scale.

  • The resistance spot welding process has been extensively used for joining of sheet metals, which are subject to variation of many process variables. Many qualitative analyses of sampled process variables have been successfully attempted to achieve a uniform nugget size. In this paper, the electrode movement signal which is a good indicative of the nugget size was examined by introducing a mathematical model with four parameters. A neural network method was applied for the estimation of the nugget size by four parameters. The prediction by the neural network is in good agreement with the actual nugget size. The results are quite promising in that the qualitative estimation of the invisible nugget size can be achieved without destructive testing of the welds.

  • An experimental investigation was undertaken in a diesel spray to evaluate wall impingement behavior and droplet size distribution. Emphasis is placed on the possibility of the application for new combustion type which is based on OSKA-D type. Visualization were employed using optical scheme which was a spark shadowgraphy to observe the behavior of wall impingement caused by diesel spray vertically injected at the center of the combustion chamber. Droplet size measurements using Malvern system were made to quantify the visual observations with surface diameter of impingement. The effects of the surface dia. variation on the droplet size during injection with the wall impingement spray are discussed. It was found that for the wall impingement spray the droplet size becomes greatly small rather than the spray without the wall impingement and the droplet deposition rate of the injection fuel is decreased as the surface area of impingement becomes small.

  • Selected MPEG-b-PDLLA block copolymers have been synthesized by ring-opening polymerization with systematic variation of the chain lengths of the resident hydrophilic and hydrophobic blocks. The size and shape of the micelles that spontaneously form in solution are then controlled by the characteristics of the block copolymer template. All the materials prepared in this study showed the tunable pore size of 20-80 ${\AA}$ with the increase of hydrophobic chain lengths and up to 660 $m^2$/g of specific surface area. The formation mechanism of these nanoporous structures obtained by controlling the micelle size has been confirmed using both liquid and solid state $^{13}C\;and\;^{29}Si$ NMR techniques. This work verifies the formation mechanism of nanoporous structures in which the pore size and wall thickness are closely dependent on the size of hydrophobic cores and hydrophilic shells of the block copolymer templates.

  • This investigation was undertaken to establish the technologies of grain refinement and modification, and to characterize material properties, essential for high quality aluminum alloy castings. Grain refinement seldom changed DAS and eutectic Si size, but largely decrease grain size. The variations of grain size induced by grain refinement had a great influence on the elongation without changes in the tensile strength or yield strength. The optimum Ti level lies between 0.1% and 0.16% to achieve the best possible mechanical properties. DAS and grain size were little affected, but eutectic Si size was greatly refined by modification. The variation of eutectic Si size had a great effect on the elongation, impact value, fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation rate without changes in the tensile strength or yield strength. The Sr content of 0.015% is optimum to modification.

  • This paper proposes a new face recognition technique in the dynamic link architecture which shows robustness against size variation and distortion. The face recognition technique in the dynamic link architecture so far was not appropriate for the recognition of various size of faces because of the fixed size of the graph and the fixed value of a of the Gabor filter not considering the size of the face. The proposed face recognition algorithm can represent the input facial image by a suitable size of labeled graph, and it can also adjust the dilation width and the height of the vibrating amplitude of the Gabor filter, thus face recognition in the dynamic link architecture is even applicable regardless of the size of the face.
