Rheological behavior of thermoset/thermoplastic blends of epoxy/polyethersulphone (PES) was monitored during curing of the epoxy resin. During the isothermal curing of the mixture, a fluctuation in viscosity just before the abrupt viscosity increase was observed. This fluctuation is found to be due to the phase separation of PES from the matrix epoxy resin during the curing. The experimentally observed viscosity fluctuation is simulated with a simple two phase suspension model in terms of the increase in domain size. The viscosity profiles obtained experimentally at different isothermal curing temperatures are in good agreement with the predictions from the simple model taking into account the viscosity change due to the growth of PES domain and the network formation of the epoxy matrix.
In this study, an optical imaging method was developed for the measurements of the sizes and velocities of droplets in sprays. Double-exposure single-frame spray images were captured by the imaging system. An image processing program was developed for the measurements of the sizes and positions of individual particles including separation of the overlapped particles and particle tracking and pairing at two time instants. To recognize and separate overlapping particles, the morphological method based on watershed segmentation as well as separation using the perimeter and convex hull of image was used consecutively. Better results in separation were obtained by utilization of both methods especially for the multiple or heavily-overlapped particles. The match probability method was adopted for particle tracking and pairing after identifying the positions of individual particles and it produced good matching results even for large particles like droplets in sprays. Therefore, the developed optical imaging method could provide a reliable way of analyzing the motion and size distribution of droplets produced by various sprays and atomization devices.
To fabricate porous SiC candle filter for filtration facility of the IGCC system, the candle type filter preforms were fabricated by ramming and vacuum extrusion process. A commercially available ${\alpha}$-SiC powders with various particle size were used as starting raw materials, and $44\;{\mu}m$ mullite, $CaCO_3$ powder were used as non-clay based inorganic sintering additive. The candle typed preforms by ramming process and vacuum extrusion were sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 2h in air atmosphere. The effect of forming method and particle size of filter matrix on porosity, density, strength (flexural and compressive strength) and microstructure of the sintered porous SiC candle tilters were investigated. The sintered porous SiC filters which were fabricated by ramming process have more higher density and strength than extruded filter in same particle size of the matrix, and its maximum density and 3-point bending strength were $2.00\;g/cm^3$ and 45 MPa, respectively. Also, corrosion test of the sintered candle filter specimens by different forming method was performed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2400h using IGCC syngas atmosphere for estimation of long-term reliability of the candle filter matrix.

The object of this study was to evaluate the separation distance from a temporary storage facility satisfying the dose criteria. The calculation of ambient dose rates took into account cover soil thickness, facility size, and facility type by using MCNPX code. Shielding effects of cover soil were 68.9%, 96.9% and 99.7% at 10 cm, 30 cm and 50 cm respectively. The on-ground type of storage facility had the highest ambient dose rate, followed by the semi-ground type and the underground type. The ambient dose rate did not vary with facility size (except $5{\times}5{\times}2m\;size$) due to the self-shielding of decontamination waste in temporary storage. The separation distances without cover soil for a $50{\times}50{\times}2m\;size$ facility were evaluated as 14 m (minimum radioactivity concentration), 33 m (most probably radioactivity concentration), and 57 m (maximum radioactivity concentration) for on-ground storage type, 9 m, 24 m, and 45 m for semi-underground storage type, and 6 m, 16 m, and 31 m for underground storage type.
Mineralogical study was carried out for heavy minerals in the sea sand near Ongjingun bay, Kyonggi-do separated using the gravity and magnetic separators. Ilmenite, zircon and minor monazite and garnet were valuable minerals with gangue minerals of quartz, K-feldspar, plagioclase, muscovite, hornblende, epidote and chlorite. Quantitative analysis with SIROQUANT program showed that the contents of ilmenite separated with the gravity separation (the shaking table separation), the 1st step magnetic separation (rare earth magnetic separation) and the 2nd step magnetic separation (the Eddy current magnetic separation) were increased into 0.8, 18.3, and 48.7%, respectively. The content of ilmenite, monazite and zircon were recalculated based on the chemical composition of the representative and heavy fraction products of raw sand, the 1 step and 2 step gravity separations, and the 1 step and 2 step magnetic separations. The content increased to 0.23, 0.55, 5.22, 16.17, and 44.99% in ilmenite, 0.11, 0.02, 0.16, 0.51, and 1.19% in monazite. Although the zircon content did not differ over the processes (0.13, 0.12, 0.11, 0.15, and 0.10%), the improved recovery of zircon is expected by applying sieving process because of its high content (27%) in the fine grain size fraction (< 140#) of the 2 step gravity separation.

In this study, cobalt nanopowder is fabricated by sonochemical polyol synthesis and magnetic separation method. First, sonochemical polyol synthesis is carried out at $220^{\circ}C$ for up to 120 minutes in diethylene glycol ($C_4H_{10}O_3$). As a result, when sonochemical polyol synthesis is performed for 50 minutes, most of the cobalt precursor ($Co(OH)_2$) is reduced to spherical cobalt nanopowder of approximately 100 nm. In particular, aggregation and growth of cobalt particles are effectively suppressed as compared to common polyol synthesis. Furthermore, in order to obtain finer cobalt nanopowder, magnetic separation method using magnetic property of cobalt is introduced at an early reduction stage of sonochemical polyol synthesis when cobalt and cobalt precursor coexist. Finally, spherical cobalt nanopowder having an average particle size of 22 nm is successfully separated.

For commercialization of hydrogen refuelling station (HRS), we need to reduce the clearance distance for jet fire in the real entities in the HRS. Thus, we revisited the current regulations of clearance distance for jet fire in the law. The law in korea has been set up by replica of japan, not by our own scientific basis. Recently, sandia lab developed Hydrogen Risk Assessment Model (HyRAM) tools and we simulated a series of circumstances such as 10 to 850 bar with several leak hole sizes. In 850 bar with 10 mm diameter hole leak cases, it shows $4,981kW/m^2$ at 12 m separation from leak source and $1,774kW/m^2$ at 17 m separation from leak source. In 850 bar with 1 mm diameter leak hole, it shows $0.102kW/m^2$ at 12 m separation and $0.044kW/m^2$ at 17 m separation. Current law may be acceptable with 1 mm hole size with 850 bar.

To evaluate the correct separation capacity of cascade impactor for liquid aerosol, theoretical and experimental calculations of 50% cut-off diameter(ECOD(sub)50) were performed. A recalculation method of original diameter for hemispheric liquid aerosol collected on casecad impactor is also proposed newly using fixation technique. Calculated values for theoretical (ECOD(sub)50) of 40stage cascade impactor are 20, 6.4, 2.8, and 1.4$\mu\textrm{m}$ at 1st- ,2nd-, 3rd- and 4th-stage, respectively. A good agreement between the result of theoretical (ECOD(sub)50) and that og experimental ones was obtained at Stage 2 and 3. On the other hand, relatively large differences were found at Stage 1 and 4. Fixation for liquid aerosols using ${\alpha}$-cyanoacrylate monomer was performed successfully. The orignal diameter of liquid aerosols collected on each stage was calculated. The maximum levels of number size distribution curves at each stage are 19.8, 6.5, 3.1 and 1.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ at 1st-, 2nd-, 3rd- and 4th-stage, respectively. The distortion of separation capacity of cascade impactor due to the split, merger, disappearance, and evaporation of liquid aerosols in the fluid did not occur.

The dividing flow in an open channel has a number of distinctive characteristics. One of these is that the separation zone interacts with a secondary motion along the inner wall of a branch channel, generating sediment accumulation. To investigate this phenomenon, a two-dimensional numerical model based on the shallow-water equations, RMA2, which calculates water surface elevations and horizontal-velocity components, was used to analyze the dividing flow. The obtained numerical results fully coincide with the laboratory measurements reported by Hsu et al.(2002). For the analysis of the numerical results, a separation zone-discharge rate relationship was proposed. To reduce the size of a separation zone, the topographies of diagonal and curved edges were proposed, smoothly connecting the upstream corner to branch channel.
Regular and highly interconnected macroporous poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) scaffolds with pore size of 10∼300 ㎛ were fabricated through thermally induced phase separation of a PLLA-dioxane-water ternary system in the presence of a small amount of Pluronics. Addition of Pluronics to the ternary system raised the cloud-point temperature curve in the order of P-123< F-68< F-127. The Pluronics act as nuclei for the phase separation. This assistance is enhanced with increasing length of the hydrophilic PEO blocks in the Pluronics molecules. Liquid-liquid spinodal phase separation was induced at higher temperatures in the systems containing Pluronics because the spinodal region is raised to higher temperature. The absorption of Pluronics onto the interface stabilizes a macro scale structure and increases the interconnection of pores.
