  • A fourth-order $\Sigma$-$\Delta$ modulator is designed and implemented in 0.6 $\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. The modulator is verified by introducing nonlinear factors such as DC gain and slew rate in system model that determines the transfer function in S-domain and in time-domain. Dynamic range is more than 110 dB and the peak SM is 102.6 dB at a clock rate of 2.8224 MHz for voiceband signal. The structure of a ∑-$\Delta$ modulator is a modified fourth-order ∑-$\Delta$ modulator using direct feedback loop method, which improves performance and consumes less power. The transmission zero for noise is located in the first-second integrator loop, which reduces entire size of capacitors, reduces the active area of the chip, improves the performance, and reduces power dissipation. The system is stable because the output variation with respect to unit time is small compared with that of the third integrator. It is easy to implement because the size of the capacitor in the first integrator, and the size of the third integrator is small because we use the noise reduction technique. This paper represents a new design method by modeling that conceptually decides transfer function in S-domain and in Z-domain, determines the cutoff frequency of signal, maximizes signal power in each integrator, and decides optimal transmission-zero frequency for noise. The active area of the prototype chip is 5.25$\textrm{mm}^2$, and it dissipates 10 mW of power from a 5V supply.

  • In this study, we developed irreversible and stable micro-size ferromagnetic structures utilizing hydrogenation and electron-beam lithography processes. The compositionally modulated (CM) Fe-Zr thin films that had average compositions $Fe_XZr_{100-x}$ with $x=65-85\%$ modulation periods of similar to 1 nm, and total thicknesses of similar to 100 m were prepared. The magnetic properties of CM Fe-Zr thin films were measured using a SQUID magnetometer, VSM and B-H loop tracer. After hydrogenation, the CM films exhibited larger magnetic moment increases than similar homogeneous alloy films for all compositions and かey showed largest increase in $Fe_{80}Zr_{20}$ composition. After aging in air at $300^{\circ}K$ the hydrogenated $Fe_{80}Zr_{20}$ CM films showed much larger magnetic moment increases, indicating that they relax to a stable, irreversible, soft magnetic state. The selective hydrogenation through electron-beam lithographed windows were performed after the circle shaped windows were prepared on $Fe_{80}Zr_{20}$ CM films by electron beam lithography. The hydrogenation through electron-beam resist and W lithographic techniques give a $49\%$ magnetic moment increase. This method can be applied to nano scale structures.

  • In this paper, we propose a RFID metal tag antenna with a minimum by size of a metal surface to attach. This proposed tag antenna is a patch antenna which is able to stick on metal surface and designed for very slim structure ($119{\times}30{\times}1.6$ mm) antenna that is matched to a chip impedance. This has a loop coupling feeding and consists of a inner radiator and a outer radiator. The outer radiator activates the current to concentrate on the inner radiator regardless of metal size to attach. Also the tag antenna is designed by CST microwave tool and the performance is measured in the anechoic chamber. The optimum antenna has 3.77 % of the matching bandwidth($S_{11}<-10$ dB). The readable range of the tag antenna is about 2.9 m on metal(max. size $700{\times}700$ mm) and 5.5 m in free space according to the measurement results.

  • EM(Electro Magnetic) pump is used for the purpose of transporting liquid sodium coolant with electrical conductivity in the LMR(Liquid Metal Reactor). In the present study. pilot EM pump has been designed by using of equivalent circuit method which is commonly employed to analyze linear induction machines for the test of removal of residual heat. The length and diameter of the pump have fixed values of 840 mm and 101.6 mm each by taking account of geometrical size of circulation loop for the installation of EM pump. Flowrate versus developing pressure is related from Laithwaite's standard design formula and the characteristic analyses of developing force and efficiency are carried out according to change of input frequency. From the characteristic curve, input frequency of 13 Hz is determined as the design frequency. On the other hand, The annular air gap size of 6.05 mm is selected not to bring about too much hydraulic loss. Resultantly design analysis makes pump have the electrical input of 604 VA and the hydrodynamical capacity of 1.3 bars and 40 l/min.

  • In this work, we prepared Fe-Ni alloy nanopowders by wire electrical explosion in deionized water and ethanol. Particles size and morphology of the as-synthesized nanoparticles prepared in water and ethanol were observed by transmission electron microscopy. In both cases, the as-synthesized nanoparticles were in nearly spherical shape and their size distribution was broad. The particles prepared in the water were in core-shell structure due to the oxidation of Fe element. X-ray diffraction was used to analyze the phase of the nanopowders. It showed that the nanopowders prepared in water had ${\gamma}$-Fe-Ni solid solution and FeO phase. The samples obtained in ethanol were in two phases of Fe-Ni solid solution, ${\gamma}$-Fe-Ni and ${\alpha}$-Fe-Ni. Bulk samples were made from the as-synthesized nanopowders by spark plasma sintering at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. Structure of the bulk sample was observed by scanning electron microscope. Magnetic properties of the as-synthesized nanopowders and the bulk samples were investigated by vibrating sample magnetometer. The hysteresis loop of the assynthesized nanopowders and the sintered bulk samples revealed a ferromagnetic characteristic.

  • The high-switching-frequency operation of power converters can achieve high power density through size reduction of passive components, such as capacitors, inductors, and transformers. However, a small-output capacitor that has small capacitance and low effective series resistance changes the small-signal model of the converter power stage. Such a capacitor can make the converter unstable by increasing the crossover frequency in the transfer function of the small-signal model. In this paper, the design and implementation of a high-frequency LLC resonant converter are presented to verify the power density enhancement achieved by decreasing the size of passive components. The effect of small output capacitance is analyzed for stability by using a proper small-signal model of the LLC resonant converter. Finally, proper design methods of a feedback compensator are proposed to obtain a sufficient phase margin in the Bode plot of the loop gain of the converter for stable operation at 500 kHz switching frequency. A theoretical approach using MATLAB, a simulation approach using PSIM, and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed analysis and design methods with 100 and 500 kHz prototype converters.

  • Pd/(Pt/Co/Pt) modulated multilayer films have been deposited on various substrates with Pd/Pt buffer layers. Films grown at different temperatures have very distinct magnetic properties and surface microstructures. Atomic force(AFM) and scanning tunneling (STM) microscopies studies of these films reveal that films deposited at room temperature have small grain structures with an average grain size of about $140\;{\AA}$. However, much larger grains of about $1200\;{\AA}$ in size are observed in the films grown on buffer layers which were deposited at $500^{\circ}C$. These large grains are found to actually consist of smaller grains of about $170{\AA}$ in diameter. SQUID magnetic and Kerr hysteresis loop measurements indicate that multilayer films with large grains exhibit high magnetic coercivities of around 5 kOe. A subgrain growth model is proposed to understand the observed grain structures in the multilayers.

  • In this paper, a closed-loop sensorless stroke control system for a linear compressor has been designed. In order to estimate the piston position accurately, motor parameters are identified as a function of the piston position and the motor current. These parameters are stored in ROM table and used later for the accurate estimation of piston position. The identified motor parameters are approximated to the several surface functions in order to decrease memory size. They can also be divided into 2 or 4 subsections to decrease identification errors. The effect of the order of surface functions and division of subsections on identification errors and computation time is analyzed.

  • This paper is concerned about the hybrid tandem configuration as the design of the automated guided vehicle system(AGVs). The hybrid tandem configuration is that the manufacturing system is divided into several non-overlapping zones, workstations of each zone are linked by network configuration including loop. That is, the manufacturing system is divided into several non-overlapping small size networks, and at most two automated guided vehicles can be available in each network. The transit point is located at proper point between adjacent networks. The parts are transported to workstations in other network through the transit points. One of the objective functions in dividing into the hybrid tandem configuration is to minimize the maximum travel time of the divided networks, and other is to minimize the total travel distance of parts moved to workstations in other networks for the next processing. The model formulation is presented, and a numerical example is shown. Also, the performances of system for the hybrid tandem, tandem and network configuration are compared through the simulation. The results of this research will contribute to the development of material handling systems in the manufacturing system. Also, it will be applied in determining the transportation area of transportation vehicles and the number and size of the transportation fleet in the transportation problem of logistics management.
